Bugs be gone! Help!

I have some bug getting into the tent. They come in the house every winter. I used to call them stink bugs as they do when you disturb/kill them. According to Ohio State they are really

Western Conifer-seed Bugs

Boxelder Bugs

I have been picking them off and killing them every day. Does anyone now any other way to get rid of them other than boiling water or soapy water.

To my understanding they dont really feed in the winter but if your seeing problems. This will do the job. Amazon.com : BASF Pyrethrum TR Fogger, Clear small : Insect Repellents : Patio, Lawn & Garden

That was mine too. But how do they survive moving around for months without. It does say they like light and they have lots of that in the tent.

TY for the link.

Can you get it in a non bomb as that isn’t going to happen with my parrots.

Bugs are just hard core. Look up root aphids, now those are a nightmare. It’s def something you want to be prepared for and diligently look for. If you see an adult it’s to late.

Yeah they killed off my roses overnight when I had them.

Is your home surrounded by forest, especially pine trees?

Yes and yes! I live in the middle of Pines with Box Elder growing all over. Talk about weeds  All the ash died from Ash bores and the Box Elder took off even worse.

I thought getting rid of the Red Wood siding would help but it didn’t slow them down.

The best bet is to get all vegetation, no matter what it is, away from the perimeter of the house, really clean the first 10 or 12 feet back to the soil and significantly alter the pH, so that there are no new growth plants next to your house for the adults to feed on. This will give a 10 or 12’ window, not a barrier. But from here, sealing all the little cracks into the building is the answer. If I lived in your town, this would be done already.

Thanks to @G-paS, I now know what those little buggers are. I’ve had them around here for @ 3 yrs now, but never in my house. Coincidently, I stopped using Weed-B-Gone for lawn insects about the same time. I didn’t want the grandkids exposed to a toxic lawn.

Yeah I love living in the trees and having fresh air and privacy but it comes at a price.
I am catching them in bowls of water and picking and killing. There is no way to keep them out of the house as they cam fly in every time you open a door or window. Even with screens, they get in and than you open the window and they get in. Now if the doors and windows faced north I would be better off but who up here doesn’t want to face south/sun? Yeh!

those pyrethrin bombs or whatever can be safe in the house or around pets if used properly, this one can even be used in a commercial kitchen as it leaves no residue

TY! I actually have some of these out in the barns. I didn’t think they were safe in the house.

if they are metered bursts and timed far enough apart it should be safe, but definitely double check with the ones you have to make sure. this website has lots of information about different bugs and treatments including child/pet safe FAQs. only seed bug i found on the list was “elm seed bug” so idk if thats the same

I got this bug Identified by MSU. The disagreed with OSU.
I always called them a stink bug and they are.
Grieshop says the “Brown Marmolated” — or Asian stink bug is showing up all over the state. The bug is Asian in origin and was first reported in the United States when it was discovered in Pennsylvania in 1996.

I also have the box elder but the stink bugs are really bad for plants.

My area is red :sob:

Same here man, I get them pretty bad in my attic during the summer. I was even finding them throughout the winter. At least they haven’t made their way into the garden.

Your lucky, they are nasty buggers.

these bugs are terrible here, they were covering the entire sunny side of my house last fall and crawling in every time I opened the door for the dogs.

One just came in yesterday with the 50 degree temp, not even sure where he went. Would not be surprised to find him in the grow tent which is the warmest spot in the house.

With these and the box Elder bugs my house was red and brown on the south side today as it was 60 and sunny. They don’t have predators to eat them here as they came from Asia.

Lost a half a leaf so far.

Looks like I have the Western Conifer Seed bugs - it makes sense as my house is surrounded by pine trees. Fortunately they don’t eat anything, they just hang out.

Looks like the stink bugs will actually start sucking the juice out of your plants:
