Popped a bunch of seeds - all the soil was way too hot. Not too great aeration either.
Just replanting them now - has anyone had any luck with rebounds in this scenario or am I wasting my time?

New soil is perfect - but in my haste and distance from town - I decided to test some real immature mix.
It’s been hit or miss with me. I’m clumsy and drop the cups with seedlings frequently so I’ve had to replant a few over the years. I think lowering the light levels and giving them a dome for higher humidity in the beginning helps until they’re established but that’s just my experience with it. Hope they bounce back for you.
These seedlings are 30 days from pop - ouch. But most are Alive.
Just wondering the chance of bounce back - I feel I’m wasting my time - got about 100 here and some are important beans.
Give them a week or so and you’ll see if they’re bouncing back. Especially if they’re rare or important to you.
That’s the plan. ![]()
Curious if anyone else had been in a similar situation and can tell me my odds.
If they are important no hurry, in the mean time start more seeds. What I would do is is wash them off in distilled water, dip them in rooting/cloning powder/gel, put them in some damp rapid rooter plug. Toss them in a tray with a dome, no standing water, just spray lid and leave in veg room for two weeks. Water as need at seeding level nutes. They will be fine. No hurry.
Edit I did not see you have a 100 f that wash em, new soil and cross your fingers.
Always popping seeds ![]()
Made the trip into town for a good seed starting mix - this is a lesson I already have learnt more than once… smh. As I always reuse soil and use my own amendments - I wasn’t as diligent this round at all.
Posting for a glimmer of hope - but my gut tells me these were already on the journey to a slow death.
Personally never had luck and start over when it happens. They’re worth trying to save, worst comes to worse they don’t make it but you’ll never know unless you try.
I was even thinking of dipping em in rooting formula… but already repotted the important ones - and don’t want to burn em any further.
Thanks for chiming in. I think I knew what the answer was - I just wanted to be wrong.
I always bought new soil for seedlings in the past, now i’m using soil from outside from last year with no issues. Honestly it’s better than new soil from a place that stores it outside. I don’t have mold/pests issues unlike new soil bought from places that keep it outside.
Odds not very good but create humidity dome fresh soil good moisture prob 25% chance from my experience. Sometimes they bounce back
Best therapy for a seedling in trouble is to plant it in worm compost. It’s magical for bringing both seedlings and old seeds back to life. Worm compost is the real SuperThrive, the various natural acids (fulvic, humic, absicic, etc.) cytokins, micronutrients, etc. present in worm castings signal the seedling to produce the hormones necessary to recover and thrive.
This is from worm compost that was just a few months too young… ![]()
They don’t look that bad 2 me but i ain’t see how they looked yesterday🤷🏿
They’ll be fine
I would love to see an update, they honestly looked like that have a chance.
We will find out soon.
All are in fresh soil now - just a waiting game and Ive got time. Don’t mind letting these sit until mid June to re asses.
@9mag apologies on behalf of a good handful of beans - repopped now.
However the two best performing strains in this lot was ninemags Sugar Plum Skunk and Useful’s Bag of Oranges - they handled the heat the best, were ahead of everything and had a small bit of roots. Some like it hot. ![]()
6 seedlings from a project that I havnt mentioned here… I had high hopes for. Going to pop the last very little stock I have as a last ditch effort a little later. But that will be my last chance for repro. If it fails I will have a few days of sobbing. I’m sweating just a bit.
@Budderton luckily sent me more than enough of his Sour seed that I’m already re popping. So no harm no foul.
@PsillyRabbit apologies - I may have nuked all the sumac Lemonaid you sent. I was aiming to pair it with the BL as you suggested… but now you’ve got a great selection from that line - it’s in your hands now.
The remaining were my own crosses and I’ve got more to replace - I did have a few from a landrace sour cross where if they don’t bounce back im.duped - but no big deal.
Some pineapple sorbet berry freaks that I was furthering. But no sweat if they all die - lots of guys out there doing fun things with mutants and they aren’t my priority - just having fun observing the crazy traits as I go deeper.
Probably too much info here haha - more useful for me journaled.
Thanks for everyone who chimed in - I probably should have dipped half in rooting formula for anyone in the future with this problem… I may dig back in yet and do some for fun for potential solutions and further documentation.
I’ll be sure to update the survival rate and post pictures of the quality of what survives.

I’ve had great success treating them like a clone when that happens. My numbers were much smaller though and I used root riot plugs with hormex powder.
Well where were you two hours ago! JJ
Not setup for 100 clones at this time. No good plugs either, anyway- but we will see where this goes soon. Even humidity domes are minimal. But covered my prized items.
Good to see ya around these parts again tho.

I had the same issue before but different scenario and I don’t know if this count. My mom used to throw kitchen scraps except citrus directly to soil where I sowed 20+ random brick weed seeds are in along with other plants, my plan is to try guerilla grow back then. Half of them sprouted but only few made it to seedling about 3 nodes. Later on, she found out that Im growing mj, I lied to her that it is just a neem tree. I pulled the ones that survived and it is same as your seedlings, straight tap root with no root hairs. To make this long non sense story short, not every specimen are created equal, survival of the fittest and only the strong survive. Anyways, best of luck with your swamp chronicles and well wishing for the transplanted seedlings. We all have a great day.
