Calling Dr. Grinspoon!

I meant up with @mutantoats and traded for this beautiful Dr. Grinspoon gal. She has been up potted to a 7 gallon container. I used a hose to gently break up her root wad and to spread out her roots. She has been given fresh Happy Frog mixed with perlite. I used a fair amount of mycorrhizae to make her roots happy. Top dressed with organic worm castings. I removed all the LST wires. I want her to enjoy total freedom. Stretch those arms girl! She is very happy atm. I will post weekly. Aim is to get her HUGE and to carefully make some seeds with one of her limbs. This is gonna be awesome.

Glad to have ya onboard! Im more excited about this one than usual. Ive read Dr. Grinspoon could be one of the finest smokes on the planet. Also read varies accounts of how long the flowering time is; 10 weeks to 22 weeks. So we will see  She has til early Dec in my climate zone to finish up. Hopefully that is long enough.

Well i have multiple vials of Peach Crescendo auto fem pollen in the freezer atm. That is the easy route to do on at least one arm.

Im planning other projects this summer too so will have other pollen available, God willing. Thinking Big Sur Holy Weed fem pollen would be epic. Give the BSHW a fresh shot in the arm of pure sativa!!

That’s super dope! Is this one of the actual “grapes on a vine” style bud Grinspooon? I ordered like 5 Dr grinspooon seeds from Barney’s farm(which I’m sure is white label, but who knows) and they all grew like standard landrace sativas - super tall, super thin leaves, very large airy buds. It stretched up to like 8 weeks in flower and took about 20 weeks to finish.

She isnt the pearl pheno you speak of. Hopefully the foxtail flowers get wider towards the ends a bit. That pheno seems to be common. From what ive read the pearl pheno is very very rare these days. Maybe someone on OG has it?

I will also be following along. I too was wondering if that was the Pearl pheno… Awesome that you can grow up till the first week of December, I would love to grow plants in your climate. :sunglasses:
Your plant looks the picture of health. :+1:

My brother kept a cut a favorite Grinspoon selection that he absolutely adored for many years but lost it. He crossed it to the ace super Malawi Haze and I just grew out a handful of those and they’re absolutely amazing.

Very nice plant and great strain choice!

Supposedly Dr. G. is a fem. Barney Farm version of Reeferman Senor Garcia aka Jerry Garcia (Purple Thai x Panama). Similar female as used in DJs Blueberry.

From what i read the Pearl pheno takes after the Purple Thai side in structure. But most plants grow more like the Panama male.

I grew 1 seed and it was not the pearl one. But the most unique spicey cinnamon and berry terps and extra clear mind alert happy high. A bit mellower than a pure Haze. Kinda like a sativa pheno of Blue Dream but w no crash. More clear high and less stony than BD can be.

Dr. G. was unique and old school in every way. Except it was VERY frosty and potent.

Great info! Im leaning towards the idea if growing out a bunch of BSHW, selecting the most sativa leaning plants, reversing with STS, and then crossing with this Dr. Grinspoon. Im thinking the offspring could be phenomenal. Most folks I talk to reminisce about BSHW back when it was more sativa leaning. Like in the early 1970s. This new f1 cross could steer it that way. Might be amazing? Not to mention the beans would be fem seeds, which I greatly appreciate. Thoughts?

As in Lester Grinspoon? Did Dr. Grinspoon make the original seed? The plant looks fantastic. Definitely go for the cross and some clones.

I’m growing out a fem dr. Grinspoon from seed right now and I doubt I will get the pearl pheno but let me tell you thats the pheno of my dreams and what triggered my string of pearls hunt to begin with.

The other idea floating in my head to to cross it with F13. F13 flowers look kinda similar and it has a fair amount of sativa in it too. Could be a excellent cross too. So many ideas so little time!!

Howdy @ChinookKing, awesome project and awesome community sharing with @mutantoats. I’m excited for you. Dr. Grinspoon is some awesome stuff, top notch genetics.

I’m still working through a backlog since getting back into better health but once I get caught back up I’ll do what I can to get some of my Dr. Grinspoon work sent your way if you would like to use it in your projects. I pollinated a Dr. Grinspoon female with a bunch of blue types like DJ Short Breeders Choice Mix #1, DJ Short Newberry, DJ Short Flo, and a homemade Blueberry Cherrygasam hybrid. So, effectively they’re all 50% Dr. Grinspoon. The seeds are mixed together though so knowing exactly which pollen contributor is not known for sure with the mixed seeds that were saved.

I found the flowering of the Dr. Grinspoon was so long and drawn out that it took more than 8 weeks of flowering until there was a decent amount of stigmas to pollinate. Many blessings and much love
