A bit strange that you claim to be the head grower of the largest grow operation in an entire state, but won’t say which state or the company.
I’m out, this is going nowhere.
To other people reading this:
If you want to get rid of spider mites or any other infestation you’re tired of fighting, the information is there. My inbox is open, too.
You decide if less than a single mL of an 8% solution of a chemical is that is sprayed more than 6 weeks before harvest 100% guaranteed to eliminate and prevent powdery mildew from a smaller grow is worth losing sleep over. I could eliminate PM from an entire warehouse with a shotglass full of this stuff ($6 worth).
Weigh the risks and decide for yourself. Notice that people screeching about the need to use organics seem oddly emotionally invested. I swear to you I only care about what works, if I thought it was terribly unsafe I wouldn’t do it. I’m not some shady black market dealer who just cares about profit, I smoke my own product exclusively.
Again, you can’t legally eliminate powdery mildew from a warehouse with Eagle 20 b/c it’s not allowed. Not in the cannabis industry, not in the tobacco industry. I use the tobacco industry as an example b/c both products are ignited an inhaled. Different chemical reactions take place when those compounds are heated past their boiling points.
Hope you will stop this negativity, I think all the info, pros and cons are now available. Let the people decide and find their own balance between safety and eficiency …
No need for that , thanks for the extended info, since I had my infestation I spray as IPM the tent and plants with diluted Rosemary oil, if that helps or not with bugs I don’t know , but al least the bleech odour has gone …
I’ve noticed the spider mite infestation comes in on plants 99% of the time. You can’t SEE them even with a magnifying glass because buddy who gave you them clones uses super poison that never kills 'em. It just kills off quite a few. The other 1% of the time, some turd…usually the grower, rolls around in a patch of grass then runs into his/her grow room and spreads them there. I would never recommend using anything, to kill the mites. Nothing works, so don’t be fooled. I know, that’s hard to hear…but you can personally engineer a spider mite to resist all poisons/chemicals/gasses. Just keep not killing them all with the poison, then suddenly they are immune. A “friend” of mine got these “borg” style mites. And by “friend” I mean I got them from someones infested plants. No poison on the planet killed them even at doses that killed the plants. I determined that just washing the plants off by soaking them in the water then scrubbing them killed all the mites and washed off all the eggs. No poison, don’t buy shit. For any other stupid bug, I’ll break out the BTK. It kills using biological agents no danger to humans.
I’m not growing weed with BTK, but out in the garden, it kills bugs dead. ORGANIC, MAN! Try and find a toxic report on that shit heh heh. Remember! This will not work on mites, so don’t do it. Use on thrips and aphids and caterpillars and slugs and etc etc. “The fact is simple, marijuana must be grown with Tegridy” - Stan. I promise I never use anything…at all, to spray on my medical grade weed.
Ok, here’s my contribution to this thread lol. I’m like any other long term grower… the old saying about ‘it’s not a question of if you ever get SMs, but WHEN’ is as true now as it was 40 yrs ago. That being said, I haven’t had them f’ers for a bit over a decade… until a couple weeks ago!! (@&)&#^#$)!! I guess I got complacent (read ‘slack’) and in the process of buying a batch of clones of a strain I wanted (was too lazy to order the seeds and grow em out)they came into my grow!!
I’ve read a lot here that’s good sound advice, and hey, if something works for you, then great. Not every grower is going to have the same results from the same products for any number of reasons I’m not going to list here.
I’ve found over the years what worked best for me was the 50/50 alcohol/water (in veg only! as the alcohol WILL kill the thc!) they can’t build up an immunity and it kills on contact.(actually even partially dissolving them and eggs)
Now onto the budding cycle, here it’s a different story. I’ve used Green Cleaner and Azamax in early stages and Rosemary/peppermint oils on the later stages closer to harvest. Also high pressure spray of high Ph cold water, and even a wash/bath if they had gotten bad.
This go around it’s been Rosemary/Peppermint oils, Green Cleaner, Azamax, and Safers in a multi-prong attack, never using the same twice in a row (altho you can with the green cleaner) spraying every other day. After two weeks of this I’m not seeing anything on any plant, BUT I’ll continue for another week to be sure. the essentail oils i use on the plants that are within a couple weeks of harvest and then spray everything with the Ph adjusted water.
So far, so good and I’m keeping my fingers crossed I got em. But I will be doing a preventative maintenance spray and microscopic exam weekly for a long while to come!
Good luck to any cursed with these little f**ks! Grow on!!
There are acaricides that absolutely will kill any mite. Russet, broad, hemp, spider, don’t matter.
You sound like you’re really pushing an anti-pesticide mentality, so I’ll assume you just don’t know about them. Abamectin & spiromesifen & bifenazate. Rotate each one a few days apart and it will eliminate every mite on your plants, resistance be damned.
insert evidence here, vernal. I’ve seen it all. I mean, I’m not the boss of you - do what you want, but I will maintain my promise to never spray anything on my plants. You can assume anything, but just as long as you assume I keep my promises, we’re good.
well ok lets have a little conversation about contamination. You’re hard up for some buds and your two friends are sitting there. One says “I never spray anything on my plants because the protocols I use ensure there are no parasites”, other buddy says “I sprayed my plants with a combo of five different pesticides to kill the mites”. now, which sack of weed are you going to take? The one you know has nothing, including no mite carcass, or the bud you know has 5 different things sprayed on it? whatever those 5 things are - who even cares.
I not only spray the tent walls and plants with diluted rosemary oil but also my dog and myself to keep away flies and mosquitoes. There are cows in the neighbourhood and those flies bite you and then drink your blood , I am so obsessed with them that I also put rosemary in my aftershave and eau de cologne, they like my THC blood …
You never spray anything on your plants, yet you claim pesticides don’t work.
They work.
It’s not like I bring in plants from outside into the grow area, and any incoming clones are treated with pesticides to avoid contamination. There’s no mites in my room. But if they show up, I’ll eliminate them. It isn’t this insurmountable problem people seem to think it is.
Neem doesn’t even really kill on contact, just disrupts the life cycle. You can sorta control them with constant neem sprays I guess, but you won’t eliminate them entirely.
They also liked the cilantro and had a major infestation on them. Their planting info on the pack said it was a deterrent for spider mites.
I use SNS-209 with each watering and still got them a year ago. Spraying didn’t help much either.
What I recommend is CHIVES (not the Chinese or garlic version) if you plant them in the same container is best but putting a growing pot of these in the tent. Last season I put them in at the beginning (after cleaning etc between grows) and was able to go the entire year without any more outbreaks.
Do they work? Dunno, but something did. Main thing is to clean it out and keep it clean.
