Canadian Cannabis Act / ACMPR license Q and A

wet buds are in a different class. The 30 grams you are legally allowed to carry is 150 grams wet buds, 30 grams dried buds, 7 grams hash, 30 seeds.

Do you have any sources for this? I have a 50 plant limit and 150g dried possession limit on my licence but nothing about seeds or hash.

From the first link.

“The maximum amount you are allowed to possess is 30 grams in all states”

I thought we had provinces. Anyway, it started me on a search, half hour later,

"Possession and personal storage limits under the Cannabis Act

The new regulations remove personal storage limits for patients. Like any adult Canadian, they can store as much cannabis as they want at home.

Public possession limits remain the same for authorized patients who are registered with a federally licensed seller or with Health Canada:

The lesser of 150 grams or a 30-day supply of dried cannabis (or the equivalent in cannabis product) in addition to the 30 grams allowed for non-medical purposes

Those authorized to access cannabis for medical purposes must be prepared to show they are legally allowed to possess more than 30 grams (or equivalent) in public, if requested by law enforcement. This can be done by showing:

Their registration document issued by a federally licensed seller
Their registration certificate issued by Health Canada for personal or designated production
Their registration certificate issued by Health Canada for possession only
This new registration for possession only is available to meet the needs of those choosing to access their supply of cannabis for medical purposes exclusively from a provincial or territorial authorized retail outlet or authorized online sales platform "

Registering only to possess and not to produce

You may need to register with Health Canada in order to lawfully possess cannabis in public above the 30 grams limit allowed for non-medical purposes if you:

are authorized by your health care provider to use cannabis for medical purposes
ordinarily live in Canada
intend to access your supply of cannabis only from a provincial or territorial authorized retail outlet or authorized online sales platform
are not registered with a federally licensed seller or with Health Canada for personal or designated production

The type of registration does not allow you to produce your own cannabis for medical purposes, or designate someone to produce it for you. It acts as proof of your ability to possess in public up to a 30-day supply of dried cannabis, or its equivalent, up to a maximum of 150 grams, depending on the amount authorized by your health care practitioner. The public possession limit for cannabis for medical purposes is in addition to the possession limit of 30 grams for non-medical use.

" Fresh marijuana

If you are using fresh marijuana, 5 grams is considered equivalent to 1 gram of dried marijuana. If you are allowed to possess 60 grams of dried marijuana, you can possess 300 grams of fresh marijuana:"

"For example, if you used 5 grams of dried marijuana to make 10 millilitres of cannabis oil, your equivalency factor is 2 millilitres per gram of dried marijuana:

10 millilitres of oil ÷ 5 grams of dried marijuana = 2 millilitres per gram of dried marijuana

You would use this equivalency factor to make sure that you stay within your possession limit.

For example, if the daily amount recommended by your health care practitioner is 1 gram of dried cannabis, you are allowed to possess no more than 60 millilitres of this cannabis oil:

1 gram a day × 30 days = 30 grams possession limit of dried cannabis
30 grams possession limit × equivalency factor of 2 millilitres per gram = 60 millilitres of cannabis oil"

So for dried, 180g combined. Nice to know. Whether individual provinces limit you further, not going to start rooting around.

And smoking in public in Manitoba,

One thing I can not find is how many seeds you can have. And from what I gather you can buy hemp seeds, how are they going to figure out you have a cannabis seed?

Links to the other provinces.

Pretty sure it said 1 seed = 1 gram of weed.

I just saw the 1 seed limit in BC… So I guess you have to de-seed your weed before leaving the house. Would not want to drop more than one on the wayside.

Limits on quantity
In a public place in BC, adults at least 19 years old are allowed to possess up to 30 grams of dried cannabis or its equivalent. Equivalent amounts for 1 gram of dried cannabis are:

• 5 grams of fresh cannabis
• 15 grams of solids containing cannabis
• 70 grams of non-solids containing cannabis (liquid product such as cannabis oil)
• 0.25 grams of cannabis solid and non-solid concentrates
• 1 cannabis plant seed.

So you can have 30 seeds. Wonder if I can have 180 seeds since my medical licence says 150g?

Probably can have 180 seeds, but you can definitely at least carry 30.
I’m not sure they’d be counting seeds though. Never had a cop weigh my bag of weed either. hah hah they just want to see it.

.25 grams of concentrate… lol!

Oh nvm, didn’t see it was an equivalent. Thought that was carry limit :see_no_evil:

That reminds me, I need to clean my pipe.

But how much is this all in Canadian Geese?

So my old grow license expired in Nov 2021…I sent my paperwork to renew about 3 months prior to expiry. I didn’t hear anything back from them for ages but knew as long as my license was being processed, I was legal. Just recieved my papers today and they even extended the expiry…I’m good to grow until Sept 2023.
Thank you health Canada for being a bunch of overpaid paper pushers. I assume swamped with covid type stuff…but worked out in my favour.

TLDR;
waited 13 months for renewal to be processed…they basically gave me a year for free.

Getting tired of Canadians having different “rights and freedoms” across provinces, municipalities based on nothing more than stupid ass poli…s Cultural differentiation is fine but different laws for the same people is absolute bullshit. Backwards ass segregation IMHO. or y’know just proves were sheep and need to be led.

Get on the medical grow train. Then you are legal to grow as many plants as you want! Within reason.

Yeah, we have to renew soon…as Canadians we do have it relatively good, but as a Canadian I know it can be much better. 4 months wait time for renewal now? I’m glad the “if anything hasn’t changed” time allowance still applies. :grinning: :canada: :t_rex:

I allowed 3 months and got it in 2 for this year’s renewal :+1:

hey Tappy
just reading your post.

I’m sure you know and have thought about it- what got me thinking was that the prescription you would need is valid for 12 months so you may need to get that issued again after 12 months / inside of the additional time you were extended?.

cheers !

So I just had an interesting curveball in my application. I sent it in and it was received by HC mid september, and I received an envelope in the mail which I hoped had my new documents, but instead was my returned application and the instructions to use the new correct form. Interesting that the clinic I used had provided me with an outdated doc, but I have to say for renewals the new (to me) form is much more streamlined. Fingers crossed that the turnaround is speedy on this one, as I am quite flush with plants lol.
