Hey how’s it going everyone. I’m been considering taking classes on cannabis. This is something I need to do. I’m at a point in life I need to challenge myself. I want to master this art. I’ve been doing it for years but I want to better myself. Any suggestions. I’d prefer to take online classes.
I would consider if the college you are looking at is accredited and its credibility! This is advice from someone who went to ITT Tech under the impression of it being nationally accredited and was eventually shut down for fraud…
Honestly, I think a course in Botany would serve you better but thats my opinion.
This is good to start.
Also this is an entire free college course on plant breeding
My cousin went to one. Prior to that he left college and was working retail. He ended up getting a low paying budtending job after and within a year moved into a management position making 60k and full benefits. I don’t really know if the schooling helped him get that promotion or not. He also isn’t working with plants at all it’s just a normal retail management job for a medical/rec dispensary.
I have been growing for about 20 years and some newb with a paper would get a job over me in heartbeat.
So get that paper.
It sounds like cannabis is a passion of yours. Use that passion to research and learn about the topic on your own time and at your own pace.
Use school to help you learn the things you need that aren’t a passion; business classes, botany, etc
Cannabis is same as any other plant you may wish to grow. It follows all the principles taught in horticulture or botany. The marketing of cannabis is pretty much like any other product except the punters are proper gullible and pay more if it has cannabis stickers, words or visuals associated with it.
A cannabis college is a ridiculous idea aimed at fleecing stoners as per norm in my opinion. Bit like visiting Cambodia just to get the visa stamp.
You do realise the info contained in the pages of overgrow or pretty much any other weed forums contains at least 10x more info than any canna college and its free?
No shiny certificate to show youre an expert though. I guess Im jaded from years of nonsense.
Think if you are young enough it is worthwhile.
Looking at at botany type degree with a real college.
There is more than what is presented here on OG. There has been very little research done with pot due to classification.
But a real school will give you contacts along with information and teach you the proper way to do research.
Why?
What are you looking to learn? What are you looking to do with that information? Get better at growing? For a career? Just for fun?
I want to get better at growing
Utah state university
Pick a grow style and fine a mentor on here that will help you achieve your goal
Then grow as much as you can and help mentor other people the more you get exposed to the more you will learn.
Here ya go. ![]()
that’s the one i was looking for when i googled Amsterdam even, and then posted the link to THCU. Now to look at Oaksterdam U. Thank you. ![]()
If just to learn, I’d look through the diaries on here, if done right and they give the feed, light, ect, you can learn alot. Most the breeders on here have blogs on their sites that will help alot also. Brouse the diaries and see what growers have done on here. Read all the blog posts on most seed sites. A lot of Info is free.
What jobs need certification in growing or MJ biz in general? Or is it just a paper to show you have studied it… I’d hire all previous felon growers if I could (and had a commercial grow. ) They deserve it for the time they done and money that was taken from them all.
Want a 20 year old that went through a class but never grown or a grower that has grown 20 years and faced the consequences, good and bad?
If I was younger and came from money I’d take botany and whatever else for farming/gardening/soil type classes.
They print your diploma on zigzags.
There was a course up here at a local college that was something like “weed sommelier” although it wasn’t called that. Less about growing and more about appreciation.
What do you want to learn specifically in furtherance of mastery of your art?
You want Dr Bruce Bugbee’s classes. I have a friend who studied under him, and he is probably the most knowledgeable grower I know. Plus, he was apparently pretty much always baked. Don’t you want to learn about it from someone who smokes it?
Stay far away from Oaksterdam and similar.
