The only scientist involved in these two texts clearly says no.

Well… He never said it’s not the cause, but he doesn’t believe it based on:
There are no cases of hyperemesis in Jamaica;
There are no hyperemesis cases involving edibles;
There are cases involving synthetic cannabinoids;
and; There is no relation between Neem poisoning and Hot Showers

I’m still not convinced it’s not psychosomatic in the first place. His argument against neem as the cause is pretty shakey though.

The argument for neem as the cause seems more shaky to me. The symptoms of neem poisoning and what they call CHS are not the same. So it’s just a wild guess at best.

Who knows what else has been in that weed. The fact that there are cases involving synthetic cannabinoids does not help.

The theory of deregulation of the receptor by heavy cannabis use seems plausible to me, would be nice to see some more research into that.

Another thing that I am getting more aware of recently is the combination of bad reviews for neem oil in combination with the recommendation of commercial pesticides. Not saying that has to mean anything, but it could.

From the earlier article. If that is the case, these people should have no problem using cannabis again that has not been treated with neem, right?

Otherwise the supposed neem in the cannabis would not only cause poisoning, but change the reaction of the body to all cannabis (free of neem) consumed at a later point in life. That seems highly dubious to me.

Hell yeah, I completely agree. I have trouble with the explanation that it’s the cannabinoids causing it tho, because people have been consuming hash forever. And for the number of people going to the emergency room for CHS to double…? Assuming some portion of the population has some sort of sensitivity to high-dose cannabinoids, if that rate holds steady we would need twice as many smokers.

I can’t find the article but in the first MA cannabis cup, with entrants knowing in advance that they would be pesticide tested, something like 30+ entries failed out of like ~52 total.

“I was sitting in jail for this in a state where it’s legal,” Simpson said last Wednesday, the day he walked out of Hillsborough County’s Valley Street jail in Manchester. “There’s way more drugs up here that you should be worried about than me and my weed.”

During those two weeks, he walked by the cell where his brother had committed suicide in 2012. He came close to losing his job of three years, he said.
