My neighbor ended up on the hospital overnight because she couldn’t stop barfing. I believe it went on all day before she realized she was going to have to go be hydrated at the hospital.
So it was worse than just nausea.
Totally what I was saying, much worse than what you are trying to fix with weed.
^^ these guys above are much smarter (than me) and more versed on the subject, so I am just listening now.
It is interesting regardless. But I stand by my opinion. If it hurts, stop. hehehe
Anyone ever heard of this?? Interesting yet scary… thought it would be a good 1 to bring up here on OG … anyone know what or how this comes about ?? They claim it comes from people who frequently use high doses of cannabis for a long period of time. Tolerance breaks never seemed more necessary
Years ago I had a doctor tell me I had this.
It turned out to be something else.
This kind of click bait makes me puke.
Seriously though, I have heard of it but only on the internet.
My ex wife had hyperemesis with three pregnancies and we treated it successfully with liberal amounts of Cannabis smoking. 3 healthy kids. Unhealthy marriage but that is another thing entirely.
Actually, those times when she was smoking were the best of our entire marriage. When she stopped is when things went downhill.
The opiates she got addicted to were the nails in the coffin.
And what else has she been ingesting…?
Let’s ignore everything without an elaborate context.
The TL;DR of this thread, and others that I’ve read about it, seems to be that it was caused by use of AzaMax, a neem-based pesticide that was adding toxic ingredients to make it more effective without disclosing it on the label. Pyrethrin, I think?
I read something about. This article. Doctor Dráuzio Varella is a renowned Brazilian cancerologist who worked for several years at the Carandiru penitentiary, already considered the largest prison in Latin America. There happened in 1992 the famous Carandiru Massacre.

MARIJUANA AND HOT BATHS
The New York Times carried an article describing a side effect of marijuana that I was unaware of: cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome (CHS).
No medication is without side effects. This teaching of medicine is often challenged by those who regularly use marijuana.
In the marijuana subculture, only the beneficial effects are emphasized: improvement in appetite, reduction in anxiety levels, nausea from chemotherapy, intraocular pressure, muscle contractures in multiple sclerosis and a possible increase in creativity, among others.
The “New York Times” of the first week of April brought an article with the description of a side effect of marijuana that I was unaware of: cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome (CHS).
Ashamed of ignorance, I went after the scientific literature.
In March 2017, Cecilia Sorensen and collaborators at the University of Colorado published a review in the “Journal of Medical Toxicology”, in which they summarized the diagnostic criteria, pathophysiology and treatment of this syndrome.
The meta-analysis of 183 studies that showed more rigorous data identified the following characteristics: history of chronic use of marijuana (100% of cases), cyclical bouts of nausea and vomiting (100%), resolution of symptoms when quitting use ( 96.8%), relief of symptoms with hot baths (92.3%), abdominal pain (85.1%), frequency of use equal to or greater than once a week (97.4%), predominance in males (72.9%).
Until now, the syndrome was considered a rare event. The criminalization of consumption and the fact that cannabinoids were used in the past to reduce nausea from chemotherapy (today there are much more effective drugs) confused doctors and led patients seen in emergency services to hide their frequent use.
In January 2018, Joseph Habboushe was the first author of a study published in the journal “Basic & Clinical Pharmacology & Toxicology”, carried out in the Emergency Department of Bellevue Medical Center, in New York, the oldest public hospital in the United States.
2,127 patients aged 18 to 49 years were interviewed, of which 155 admitted to smoking at least once, for 20 days or more, every month. Among these, 32.9% reported the most characteristic symptoms of the syndrome: nausea and vomiting, curiously relieved by taking hot baths.
Dear reader, if you suffer from nausea and vomiting that improves with hot baths, beware: before rushing to the emergency room, try spending two weeks without the joint.
The authors calculate that, if these data can be generalized to the total number of inhabitants of the country, approximately 2.75 million North Americans should present symptoms of the syndrome annually.
Ignorance of cannabinoid hyperemesis leads to unnecessary laboratory tests, ultrasounds, CT scans and useless endoscopies, which increase the risk of complications and the costs of medical care. In some cases, the picture is interpreted as gallbladder attacks, appendicitis or intestinal obstruction, suspicions that can lead to the operating room patients who should not be operated on.
At other times, the lack of elucidative laboratory alterations leads to mistaken diagnoses of anxiety disorder and vomiting of a psychogenic nature. These people are referred for prolonged psychotherapy and psychiatric treatments, in which they receive antidepressants and anxiolytics with side effects that aggravate the situation.
In nearly 30 years of attending prisons where marijuana smokers make up the majority of the population, I’ve seen women and men complaining of nausea and vomiting that would fit the criteria for the syndrome. In some cases, I recommended abstinence from the drug, as a simple matter of common sense: for those who are nauseous and vomiting, it cannot do any good to blow smoke into their lungs.
Although I remember patients who improved with this approach, the lack of knowledge of the existence of the syndrome, the lack of rigorous follow-up, the confusion caused by those who could not remain abstinent and the belief in the antiemetic properties of marijuana prevented me from making the correct diagnosis, step essential for the choice of treatment.
Dear reader, if you suffer from nausea and vomiting that improves with hot baths, beware: before rushing to the emergency room, try spending two weeks without the joint.
Well, just clarifying that the text does not reflect my opinion. I just wanted to contribute to the thread. Personally, I’ve had a few episodes of retching, but I believe it’s more related to going too long without eating.
I’d bet most of us here know quite a few long time, heavy smokers and I have the feeling this is the first time any of us have heard of something like this. reminds me of how last year some study came out suggesting pot use is causing heart problems.
I’m starting to think “they” want pot to go the same direction as tobacco - they’ll legalise it, “realise” it causes cancer or some other horrible debilitating condition, mainstream society will gobble up the BS and it will get restricted again out the wazoo. Then only a few megacorps will be able to afford a seat at the table through all the heavy regulation and negative public sentiment.
There’s a woman I know that has this she Cheefs weed errday all day long and she has had this for years.Goes away if she smokes pens though?Weed and she’s having stomach problems and has cold hot spells followed by extreme nausea’ and vomiting.Only thing that knocks it out is a hot bath she said (what is up with that shit?)
The best part about vomiting in a hot bath is it keeps the temps up.
Aye Carumba!
My neighbor got diagnosed with it after an episode of puking that landed her in the hospital from dehydration. She was a heavy smoker, something like 5 grams a day. She still smokes all day long, but no more hospital visits. Not sure what changed.
This was not intended as click bait my friend… i can care less how many likes I get or comments… I’m trying to educate for the better of the marijuana community… 1 love brother
I just thought it pertinent info being is we are all here for 1 reason I hope… to further knowledge and understanding
I have this syndrome its no joke man! Sucks it starts everey time i start smoking again after about 2 months in just gets worse from there if you dont stop! When i quit smoking it goes away in a few weeks but ya man sucks makes me feel like im dying
