Cannabis microscopy

hah hah I’ve started a new game in “skyrim - the very very specialistest edition” just kidding but I started a new SE game. It’ll probably get boring quick but I upgraded the graphics again so we’ll see. In the meantime I got some more data from the meat breath plants.

day 34! The trichomes I am sampling are ones on a bud leaf.

I guess I forgot to save the measurement layer. lol! Oh well, I still have the data.

I played the heck outta ESO!!

Computer gaming is my hobby heh heh.

There I merged the measurements so you can all see the same thing I do. I forgot to do it for some reason. Not enough hash.

I find games can help quantify some of the subtler aspects of the cannabis and is a useful component for a smoke test…

I’m sorry, I’m derailing your thread… again… bad sativa… bad!  :call_me_hand:

maybe we need a separate thread…

heh heh it’s a decent break from imaging stuff. I never played ESO due to the online part. Not much of an online player, the downsides are astronomical in my estimate. At least here I have total control over my “gaming experience” and nobody will get mad heh heh. Except me. Sometimes I can just suck the life out of a game! Then I’m like fuuuuuck now what am I going to play? OK! Onto more important things! LOL!
I have imaged a leaf from a vegging plant. The tip and the leaf surface are much different than you can imagine.

This is the leaf surface, it has more than just one type of trichome.
and here’s the tip! way different!

I took 2 edf photos to cover the spread due to the 3 dimensional nature of the subject.

oh I should have taken a stitch image of that leaf on both sides. Oh well!
I got some more meat breath studies. The trichomes are huge now! They definitely surged in growth over the last 4 days.

I am using the 3 point line, so you can see what I am measuring with no line on it.

I got some scans to do here! Got a couple of different buds, but they have no smell or flavor. Classic! So now, the main question? Is it contaminated?
For starters, it’s machined buds. I think they all are from the store…nobody is wasting time hand trimming those badboys. You can tell, because they are… shaved. I mean, I suppose that’s what happens right? they shave the buds. It’s hard to actually “see” a bud. So…I’ll seeeeeeee if I can get a sample dug out of that mass.
Brazilian wax buds yoooooooo! Ahem, had that one stuck in my brain.

Whatever bud this is. Looks like someone grew it outdoors? It has the shit kicked look, but I’m not sure. Trichomes are so small they are impossible to see with the human eye. ooooo Interesting!!! I wonder if I should do a stalk count see how the density is? Quick estimate shows it might have like 50 stalks. I think it was some kind of Hawaiian buds or something. I’ll do the other scan later. No bugs but I seen strange things.

The second sample from the store is actually pretty good. I couldn’t even find any creepy shit to show you! Better luck next time
No but the story is every bud isn’t created equal. When you go to the store even, they can look the same. But they aren’t really. You have to really bore into it with good optics.

I did some classic measuring of the trichome…s. You notice how the weed from the store always looks like someone knocked off lots of the trichomes?? Well at least this sample didn’t look like someone trashed it with an angry kick, or two.

here’s the excellent meat breath photo!

The sideways trichome is bizarre!

Trichomes come in a variety of shapes and sizes! Eventually I’ll have to build up an average and a min/max of the numbers. Not for any real purpose but…GI JOE!!!

This time after I put the 'scope together I left the eye pieces in the suitcase. I realized I hadn’t looked through them in months, so they were just gathering dust. I can see now where the sample is, based on this dot of light from below.

I spent lots of time hunting around and I think I determined my microscope is the OM88-T compound lab microscope. I don’t think you can buy old stuff like that anymore heh heh.

@JoeCrowe. Funny story. I recently bought a cheap usb scope to check my trichs. This being my first grow everything is new to me. So I finally get it dialed in and they leap out at me from my phone. Shit you not, the first thought to go through my head is “Now I’m like JoeCrowe!!”

heh heh microscopy is important for growing weed. When the object of importance is 100-500 microns tall. The things you can learn are amazing!

oh, have I got a treat, or what??? Ancient weed that’s been baked by the HPS light for unknown number of days.

It’s basically yellowish like you see in the photo, and I was delighted to see the trichome damage! It’s like someone set off a bomb and leveled the place. Trichome caps are shriveled and nasty. Stalks shattered. Trichomes look yellowish and brown with age. Still looks better than some I’ve seen! Just kidding. It looks terrible! I wonder if some of the weed I’ve seen in the microscope is just old weed, or weed that’s been aged with shitty conditions? oooo makes yah think.

ok I got some meat breath trichome measurements. They seem to be full-sized now at day 49!

You want to know what crap-buds are good for? dicing up to scan with the microscope!

now for something different! I took apart a bud that was on the big bud so only 12 days in. Human eye can’t see any trichomes, and for good reason! They are embryonic!

Isn’t it amazing! I should have dissected one at day 6! lol! I can do that later.
