Do you think my wife would appreciate it much if she found out that I started an arachnids refuge? They need a good place to Winter too.

The press club seems to think it’ll take at least a day so I’ll hold off until tomorrow

I wanted to set up a home for bats in our willow before the wife freaked…lol

In 1971 I lived in Cecil County in a farm house with a bunch of Hippies. 7 people 5 cats and 3 dogs. We grew weed next to the Susquehanna River. Beautiful place and great memories. We only went to Baltimore for concerts.

Blessings…

My wife wants me to build a bunch of bat houses down by the stock pond to help reduce the mosquito population. That has been added to my Spring honey do list.

You’ll want to set up a guano collection apparatus on the bottom of the homes.

That stuff is magic for flowering plants!

My wife thinks they’re flying rats and gets all squeamish, which is weird for a chick that handles a machete like she was born with it in her hand…

Hi @Breelie. The house was 100 years old and it was on land that was an original land grant from King George. 40 acres of Pine and Walnut trees. We had wood stoves for heat. Everyone would stay in the warm bed and wait to see who was going to be the one to light the stove in the morning. One morning we met a guy who’s name was Indian John. He just showed up one Saturday and hung around getting high for the weekend. From that day forward we would wake up every day to a big pile of chopped wood ready for the stove courtesy of Indian John. All he wanted was a wake & bake in return. We never knew where he lived. He would show up on Saturday mornings and leave on Sunday night, chopping firewood every day. I have some awesome memories of Maryland. I was discharged from the Navy there and just stayed there for some years. I was just a skinny country hippie from Texas 19 years old. Thanks for indulging me. That fire is nice indeed. One Love

That is a very nice bonus. I wonder, thought, if it should be heat treated to kill any crawling nastiness. @Yetigrows

@MoBilly get you some muscovys the will eat the mosquitoes up

Well bats aren’t too pretty themselves lol but atleast muscovys come in a wide range of colors, good meat and eggs . Cleaning up weeds and bugs are a plus

I have close to 30 I believe give or take a few , feral cats were rough on the new hatches this year .

Yeah, I know. I was just joking about the ugly little guys. I have owned a few. You’re right too. I would but that pond is not where the dogs work. A duck out there would be food in no time. But we have a camping spot out there and the pests get thick sometimes so bat houses makes sense.

Well they can fly at least , tho technically not a duck but a tree dwelling waterfowl.i live next to a game refuge so we have to deal with wildlife ans domestic animals

Yeah, come to think of it there are some excellent roosting trees that actually overhang the pond… I’ll have to give that some more thought.

I would put the bat houses on the down wind side of the barn - as close to the peak as you can.

eventually, you would have a pile of poo at the base of the barn…

Actually a nice size community of bats would probably cover the whole 60 acres as long as it’s fairly centrally located. At least that would be my guess.

man i got a nice little aphid infestation going on and im 2/3 weeks away from finishing flower… i want to get these little bastards taken care of in the veg room before i start putting anything else into flower.

anyone know where i can get spinosad in canada ? nothing else works for me
