shhhh! Colder than usual I can deal with, but not earlier. No escape to the tropics for me this year :frowning:

I gotta say, thats what keeps me here. Sharing seeds or knowledge, the people here have been generous. And in general, the attitudes. Nobody really has a superiority complex, people here just help newbies instead of berating them like its a put-down competition.

Yes, the good people are all over OG…

Trimming my last girl of the season; an Apple Blossom. She’s been an absolute beast, easily one of my largest, most vigorous plants, stacked up nicely with really dense buds. Smells sweet and floral, just like the name.

Here she is at the beginning of July, freshly in the ground (she’s the tiny one in front!)

And the first week of August:

Love that garden, man! Nice plantings and cactii.

Thanks so much! It’s been a bit of a mixed blessing; the cactus is about 14 feet tall so we’ve been waiting to cut it until there was no chance of a gigantic chunk taking out a plant. We have some nice native salvias that the bees and hummingbirds love, but so do the southern pink moths, and they make budworms, so we have to fight them with BT.

The good news is, the ladybugs and mantises take care of everything but the caterpillars, so BT is the only thing I have to spray to protect the harvest. Sometimes I have to remind myself that the garden is for more than just cannabis!

Hi guys,

Just wondering if anybody has any tips for motivation, like how to keep on top of taking care of your plants and stuff. I love my plants and hobby but sometimes I find it hard to get the energy or will to get going. Wondering if anybody has tips.

i know im late but i really have to say this is a bad idea lol. those holes are way to small and goin to be a pain in the ass to deal with but… i will follow along in a journal for the shits and giggles!

also i ended up getting some end all and will be doing a dunk of the veg plants once i am done with this migrane had me down for 30 hrs or so. seems to be gone… fingers crossed

i think we all get there at times. i tend to get slight depression that kills motivation and if i have to much going on at those times it can cause a lack of attention and lead to the garden not in the best of shape. just try not to have to many things at different stages so you arent chasing them and keep it simple. your solo cups need to be tended to every day… if they were in 3-5 gal pots maybe every 3-4 days.

Yep here in Oklahoma we get occasional budworms too. We’ve found some damage to buds here this year and digging down into the bud we find them Fers have started to burrow down into the stem. Then all you can do is cut that part out/off! Got some BT also lol seems to work well enough.

I would think people in the west and southwest would be OK with that. Was that for most of the country?

I looked it up after you mentioned it. Btw, thanks for mentioning it. It’s hard to find clear information for all states. It often says not for commercial growing? There’s also news stories about high levels in dispensary weed in Oregon. Apparently, the issue is no one has done any studies on smoking Spinosad. I used it on my kale and other vegetables but I never spray my girls (yet), I just suffer the consequences. But I don’t have budworms or any other caterpillars (yet). I haven’t done outdoor grows for years except this year and last year. I wonder have they done studies on smoking bt or neem oil. I often use them on my vegetables

When you see ‘not for commercial growing’ you’re seeing 'it will fail tests, not for the consumption of the general public! private consumption is always up to the individual. But just because it works, and the companies involved (trust me here) will sell you ANYTHING they can make a dollar from, good or bad for ya, they DO NOT CARE! if they can get away with it because it’s not totally banned yet… notice the ‘yet’… they DO get away with it cuz

Ok lol I’m getting down off this stump!

edit… I’m betting if you dive deep enough into the background research, you’ll find they have done some studies and have it marked as ‘inconclusive’ and then buried/tabled ‘for later review’ due to the deep money pockets of all business involved!

A prime example is this…
Around 1978-80 I did some hydro-blasting at the petro-chemical refineries in south-Texas. Did this a couple winters. Well, one of the refineries i did the blasting at was a Shell refinery. There in the break room they had a corkboard with company info and stuff posted.
There had been a contest of employees for who could come up with the most fuel efficient system for gasoline motors.
The winner was announced on the corkboard, an employee there had came up with a carburetor that gave up like over 100mpg on a V-8! Due to the employee developing this fantastic invention on company time, it essentially became Shell’s ‘property’…
Do you or anyone here ever recall seeing anything about this amazing invention?
HEEELLL NOOO! they patented it then buried it! Because it’d put them out of business!!

edit… If ya haven’t figured it out yet, lol Corporations really piss me off with their greed!

Check out the documentary “Who killed the EV1”, same sort of thing. Big business new stuff just to bury it and protect their interests.

Same shit with this ‘spinosad’ only on a smaller scale…
Look at the different pesticides that have become banned over the decades. But were touted as the best ever…and they DID work well… too well. they killed people as well as pests!!

Yes, all too common. They banned certain herbicides here saying they are harmful so there are many areas that are overrun with dandelions and near impossible to defend against since there are fields of them blowing seed everywhere. This wouldnt be bad if it were not for the fact that golf courses can still use it. So some rich douche in ugly pants can have a place to play games but the kids get to play in prickle filled dandelion leaves. On the bright side it’s a healthier place for the kids so that is something.

I do remember my local family mechanics telling me that story years ago. It’s too bad we’ve let the corporations dominate the earth. They’ll destroy everything if there’s a profit in it. I’ve been using bt and neem on my vegetables for years. Without the bt my cabbage, kale, cauliflower, broccoli, etc. would be full of caterpillars and full of holes. So if I end up with budworms, I can still use bt. Weird that I can’t find any information about smoking bt or neem oil weed.

Dandelion wine is the shizitz! lol

And the greens are great in a salad

ever try cattail flatbread?
