@T0P, I hesitated to answer your question because I want the memory of our cherished pets to be front & center in this thread, but I did bring up what happened at the vet, so Iāll explainā¦
Lizzy was losing weight, so I attributed it to her picky taste. I found canned food that she loved, along with her treats, and she was eating more than ever (starting 11/27) for the next 4 days. She didnāt appear to be gaining weight, and then she started losing interest in the food. So on Dec 2, I made an appt with the vet - the soonest being the next day. I explained what I was seeing & my concerns and said sheād need blood work to get to the cause.
During her exam (pics of her at the vet are below), the vet said she wanted to do some scans (aka scams). She came back to show me what she thought about what the scans showed, then prescribed an antifungal medicine and a steroid. I asked about doing blood work, but the vet said if she wasnāt improving in 2 weeks, weād do the blood work then.
By December 6, she bad basically stopped eating and drinking. I called the vet and left a message telling them what I was seeing and asked if I should stop giving her the antifungal. They called 2 hours later and asked me to bring her in for blood work. I told the vet tech that called that I was angry that the blood work wasnāt done on Tuesday (3 days before). She told me that the vetās notes indicated that I rejected having the blood work done. This was a blatant lie.
Perhaps needless to say, but I was overwhelmingly upset and angry. But I took her in for her blood work. She was weak and lethargic. They had to take the blood from her jugular because they couldnāt get it from her veins. Iām thankful that they did this in a different room because that sounds heartbreaking to me. The vet tech said Lizzy was too weak to put up much of a fight, but she just wanted to snuggle. Even now when I think about that moment, it brings tears to my eyes.
They called a little later to say sheās severely anemic and her needs exceed their abilities and suggested I take her to an emergency clinic. I live in the boonies, so this is not easily achieved. Plus, it was after 6PM on a Friday.
Her decline was so rapid, even from that point, that I knew the end was upon us. She passed at 2:46PM the next day.
Kiki is a beautiful cat. Iāve always liked black cats, but never had one. They get such a bad rap! RIP, Kiki.
@DougDawson, Tigger obviously liked that sticky icky, lol. Iāve had cats (brothers) that would love chewing on the fan leaves, so theyād park themselves next to my trimming station whenever it was time to serve my trimming prison sentence. Lizzy also liked the fan leaves, but she preferred for me to hold them for her, lol. Diva!
Iāve also never had an orange cat, but I hear they can be crazy!
Beans looks like he was a big boy, @Beau. Very handsome.
@RookieBuds - wow, 18 years is amazing! Heās a cutie!
@Stiickygreen, wise words and good attitude. Weāre definitely not ready yet, but for the past 20 years living in the woods, our cats have found us. So we adopt them from nature and give them the best lives possible. My first cat when I lived on my own was adopted from the SPCA - and he was a truly special and amazing cat. RIP Alex
