Chez Calix - Journey of a Junior grower

I had some seeds I didn’t trust so I just threw 2 into the same hole. I did this in 2 pots.

They all sprouted. I dug them up and separated them very carefully. All 4 survived.

Use a toothpick or something. Think like an archeologist with a fine brush.

Should I wait for any roots to develop ? Or will they intertwine the longer I wait?

Also … Would it be inhumane to just snip one without trying to rescue it??? - lol. . . .

Is it even a seedling ? It doesn’t look like the others… In another perspective - it could be that rare ugly duckling

Do it as soon as possible. You’re correct. If they start to intertwine it will be much more difficult.

Nothing wrong with snipping one. Sometimes you’ve got to make tough decisions. If you snip keep the one that looks best to your eye.

Even in hydro with no medium and full access to the roots its still tricky to separate them! Mind you i feel like its something you can get better at kind of like untangling one of these for the first time haha

lol

I am all for the learning curve and experience.

I feel I may wait too decipher the genetics ( from my photo rolls ) and cull one or the other

It would be my preference too keep the blue berry fem … Lol

You should have no problem separating them. It makes it easier dipping them and the soil in a bucket of water and swishing it around gently or dipping it up and down in and out of the water.

I am merciless when I separate plants, I just cut the roots and let them regenerate.

Alright mister ! I chopped around the perimeter and scooped them and dunked them.

I did it…

Felt a bit of a rip going on when excavating .

Separated the easily enough…I would have just let one go but here we are…

I soaked the roots in some root hormone gel? Is that okay??

Dug a little hole for then and propped them back up with wet soil… Let’s hope for the best…my one female BB with a UN knownn

Good job!
Looks like you lost a few roots on the one to the left but it still should survive. Next time don’t dig them out, take the cup turn it upside down and flex the bottom of the cup and then slam it into your other hand with the rim of the cup. It should come out with all of its soil intact and then do the technique I told you. This way you won’t get any root damage at all. You can do this with all of your containers from solo cup to 5 gallon…….
I use this tech a lot when sending or giving away clones. I refer to it as bare rooting and has served me well for many years.
The hormone gel will probably not help but also won’t hurt anything…….

@Oldjoints - ahh I almost had it . Next time I will just dunk the small pot when it’s in my hand /upside down and seperate it all in the water. I appreciate the encouragement and confidence

Aw Nex that is some majorly condisiderate kind ness lol!

I am excited for this flowering too! They are starting to bud now!

I decided to clip all the lower stuff again and go for medium sized colas on the branches. Too tedious to trim all those nickle and dime sized buds, and now they weren’t very dense .

The last one (sour jack) I left most lowers to see how much I lost out on My first grow(9lbhammer)

I imagine it was a fair amount, but i didn’t have the patience to trim anything lower lol I just snipped it and dried and gave to a friend who was over the moon.

This run I’m hoping for some decent sized buds that have some density!

Appreciate the views of journal.

Look forward to your future posts/photos

I hear ya on trimming lowers lol. I’ll lollipop if I have the time, but larf and lowers go to bubble hash so it’s not a lose for me.

Sometimes those thick dense buds are susceptible to the rot if the weather isn’t right, but you indoor folks have that all under control

Appears my seedling transplant did not work.

Oh my… Trial and error I suppose.

Will hope for some female out of my reg seed run .an auto fem is one guarantee

Seem to have success with all but one seedlings.just one is taking its time to stand up right. I believe it’s a Alien O.G.

The list of seedlings I have at the moment are

1 CinderEvil auto (fem?)
2 OG/bubba Kush
3 Alien O.G. reg
3 Blue Cookies reg

Temperatures steady around 24 with a heat Mat
And 2 blurple .2 on over night and 1 during day.

Lights are 24/7

I also have one cutting of a Blue Monster that I am trying to root from when she was 12 days in flower so I will be patient.

I’d put a dome over the one having trouble, or a plastic bag. That way it won’t dehydrate while the roots regrow.

I just deleted a huge message aha

Thanks. Will do this promptly .

I’m wondering if it’s okay that two of my seedlings are in old sour cream containers without drainnholes. I haven’t been watering - just spraying to ensure soil stays wet.

It was all I had on hand. I guess as it gets bigger its gonna need water poured in . I can transplant when they look a bit stronger

Looking good man.

Trial and error is how I learn too.

I’d pop a couple of holes in the containers, just to be safe.

If water pools at the bottom, you’ll potentially get anaerobic activity and that could lead to other problems.

Appreciate you offering that advice !

I transplanted one to a pot and the other one I was able to carefully cut some slices in the bottom without disturbing the seedling.

I checked on them today and they we’re all really dry.

I still had the heating mat on, I turned it off.

I also had the light lowered for some reason…I felt they weren’t growing very fast…lol, i raised the light back up and made sure I watered the soil and won’t let it dry up again .

I Must remain patient…

The two in flower now are from seed but I remember them growing exponentially per day.
