I have a plant that produces buds with an amazing, unique grape flavor that I want to recreate. The problem is that pretty much everything else about this plant sucks. Slow growth, low yields, looks weird, etc… But it produces the best tasting buds I have ever smoked in 25 years of daily smoking.
So… I’m going to try to breed with it. My question is would I want to reverse this plant and hit a handful of other plants with it’s pollen, or hit this plant with the pollen from another plant. Or does it even matter.
Also this plant is from a S1 batch I made so I could hit it with one of its siblings, or I could reverse it and hit 5 different siblings with the grape pollen.
Looking for opinions on what others would do in this situation, thanks!
I’d do all of the honestly. If you’re going to reverse her I’d hit her and siblings with that pollen. Then I’d look for another plant that has better growth structure and such (I’ve heard g13 is good for this) and hit it with the pollen then hunt as much of all those seeds I could to find the one to carry forward.
Id document the plants shape, fan leaves shape and size, serraton shape of the buds, what the bud structure is, how fast it flowers and what the bud structure looks like. Definitely not when you cross what traits give that grape flavor. THC has a good point get something to cross it with with the exact opposite traits, and cross them together. You can get the grape profile, and a stronger plant all together. I had to do that to a buddies Strawberry banana deisel cookies cake. Say that 5 times fast. I bred it to a “Moonshine haze”. It shortened half of the offspring and added some extra potency to the progeny.
The package said moonshine haze, but I don’t think it was. It also didn’t decrease the number of males I had in that batch. I popped 25 of them, and had 14 make it, with 8 of them males. 1 female dud out mid flower and 1 herm. 2 I don’t remember the result of, but it Left me with 2 good plants. One faired the female with the pine tree lemon incense smell, and the other more dad dominant, with a molder stretch and tropical flavors.
Great examples of parents that usually let the mom shine. Papaya is another that always does well, having recently grown out 3 different papaya hybrids
