Cloning - Soil x water

Hello, my friends,

I’ve just started working with photoperiodic strains. I always planted auto strains, but from now on, I’ll be searching for good phenos and keepers. I’ve already had successful clones, but I’m testing an aerocloning technique. It’s been 4 days, and there’s no sign of roots yet.

I’m looking for some tips. What do you guys do to achieve the highest success rate?

4 days isn’t long. I use a home made bubble cloner. Usually see roots 7 - 14 days.
Plain old tap water, nothing else.

oh shi, just gonna leave there some more days

Take cuttings from top of plant. Stick in clone setup. Wait 10+ days.

Temps or humidity suggestions?

@Virga some plants are more resistant to cloning too. Part of the hunt

Propagation is just like germinating seeds. Relatively high heat and high humidity. VPD around 0.4-0.5 kPa

I have a heat mat under my tub. Keeps temps low to mid 70s. No cover over clones, I don’t worry about humidity. 30 watts of light over them.
!00% success rate.

I put mine in soil to clone. I use a fresh rich mix, same as seedling, veg, and flower soil. It’s all the same. A rich soil and regular transplants make for little to no nute mixing.

I do this:
snip bottom two nodes for 4 clones
hydrate snips in reg cup of water 1-2 days
razor blade fresh cut below node
dip clone powder
insert into moist soil
slightly water so all moist
note: lean clone stem against side of container to avoid jostling of the fresh clone roots.

keep moist, heat mat helps but can also cook ur clones, be wary

This is just my simple way of doing it. Others have a finer tuned procedure for sure. It all works, you just have to find what works for you.

I do the dame but i leave them in water for a week or so. I noticed some snips will die within the first few days which is why i started leaving in water longer.

I agree, getting the turgidity, if that is a word, way up helps. I had a few tiny ones bite it recently after a short soak.

It’s really all about genetics/environment. I noticed afghani/gelato and older landrace crosses tend to clone well.

My clones have been in water for about 5 days, and I’m thinking of transplanting them into soil because I’m noticing that the stems are getting a bit soft.

I just put the cutting directly into the soil and keep it moist, without soaking, for about a week. Within two weeks the branches start growing again. I get almost 100% success rates.

Chances of losing a clone in a bubble cloner, IMO, are 10x or more vs…
Clonex, Root riot, Humidity Dome… virtually 100% success EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!

Ive never lost one in my bubble cloner and Ive been using it for years now. But whatever works for you.

"Today, I transplanted the clones into the soil, and I noticed that the only clone that had shown signs of rooting was the clone I had ‘selected’. It already has a point in '‘vigor’'and is now rooting.

It’s how i started cloning and my go to.
