When I first became interested in cannabis purple cannabis was a bit of a taboo. It wasn’t common or well understood (speaking for myself of course). Fast forward to today and there are discussions about plants with no green phenos.
I have seen some beautiful representations of purple cannabis without the use of environmental influences to make the change. Ak bean brains grape Lebanese is a beautiful expression of this. And thanks to the OG community I have become aware of the purple unicorn by bodhi which has similar look as akbean brains. Though I havnt been able to obtain seeds.
I have seen absolutely beautiful expressions of red as well. Relentless genetics goes a wonderful job of showing these expressions on their Instagram page. Even though I have personally never seen a red plant grow or even a red bud.
This begs the question have we seen the limits of cannabis color expression? Are there breeders trying to get blue or black cannabis. And if that actually exists could you name the breeder who is doing the work?

I’ve grown out a few purple strains. The Relentless Genetics are colorful many times. Here’s a pic of his Queen of the South and NVTHIS.

It was insane how dark it got at the end, it was black, or at the very least a deep midnight purple. I hope to find that pheno again someday. Was also the easiest plant I’ve ever grown.

Does anyone think that its possible for a breeder to try and get a plant blue?

I grew a bunch of those HSC Phenohunters. It was a fun way to learn to grow a wide variety of genetics for not a lot of money.
This was my first freebie seed and first indoor grow. Junior Mint x MAC1.
2nd grow, Nutter Budder x Pistachio had some nice colors.
OG Kush x Vanilla Frosting. Interesting purple bracts and trichomes too. The smells and flavors were excellent. The buzz was mild indica.
My blueberry cheese plants had a blue tint. But I think it was too much Mg and miracle grow, the blue stuff, i think there’s dye in there. or N toxicity.
Blue Hawaiian is a strain that comes to mind when mentioning blue. I had some blue stuff on Oahu in 2012.

I grew a pheno of Vintner’s Moonshine from Genetic Supply that had green leaves and grew purple buds from the very beginning of flower, all the way through. Gooey breeder uses a lot of natural purples in his breeding, that don’t require cold temps to purple out.
I made F2’s with her and got about 1/3 purple from the handful of testers I tried. I also crossed the dad from that pack with a nearly black female of white widow. The single tester I grew had pure pink/magenta buds, but the smoke was mid, and I also got bud rot. I turned it into bubble hash, and all the water was dark pink.
Sounds like a great place to hunt.
Eastern Manipur from Ace Seeds is supposed to have some blue phenos. I only grew one female and mine did not turn blue.
