Commercial Growers…?!

I’m sure somebody/
/ quite a few here probably/
Are commercial growers

Looking for books
Or links for success in the cannabis industry
As for better understanding of the industry.

Consumer(compassionate) first and foremost
And putting the desire of customers first.

I am strongly considering starting a legal commercial grow where I live
and doing things fairly different than “typical”
….
Would love some output from the commercial side people here as far as getting the ball rolling.

I talk to a cannabis lawyer Monday in regards to the whole thing,
And I would like to already be ahead of the game so as far as understanding exactly what I’m getting into.

Hmu if you have any resources!

I would imagine specific advice would be highly location specific…

Not sure if you’re in the US or in another country, that makes a big difference I imagine.

Consider the overall costs: all of the costs associated with obtaining a license, insurance requirements, security requirements, facility expenses if it’s indoor, it goes on and on. Add everything together, and add 30% at the minimum.

Consider what does your local market look like. What does the retailer/cultivator landscape look like, and how saturated is the market on both sides. Some places have a small number of retailers, and a large number of cultivators, and others it’s the other way around.

If you have access to an online listing of local dispensaries inventory, maybe keep an eye on it and try to figure out what they sell the most of, and what maybe doesn’t sell as fast. Go buy a bag and ask the budtender about what is the most popular.

Great advice @yardgrazer

@way4out location definitely needs to be mentioned for any good advice.

Also black market and legal market are quite different in my area

Remember the gold rush of 1849. More money made selling shovels than panning gold.

I’m in ny so vastly different situation I’m sure.
The one thing I can say is, start learning how to do it yourself. A 1000 dollar job of any kind to another business becomes a 10,000 dollar job once it’s a pot business

First thing is of course the cost and availability of licensing. In Cal for example, the licensing is far too expensive for most individuals, then add to that the other costs, and you can’t even get in a real conversation unless you have 7 digit money. Other states may have licensing affordable by the average joe that has been saving their pennies for a while, but have a limited number of licenses, often allegedly awarded by a ‘fair’ lottery which always comes down to money; those that have the most always seem to win the lotteries for licenses.

I have been trying to get a licensed operation going for about 3 years here in New Mexico, which has open licensing (at least until next legislative session in January…) and inexpensive licensing. I don’t know of any other state easier. Event with all that, there are a mountain of obstacles. It looks like we are about to finally overcome them, and are hoping to move in licensed plants in about 6 weeks.

This is the tip of a very large iceberg. I would be glad to talk at length about this more if you would like. And I do mean MUCH MUCH more. Its not for the faint of heart, or those that will get squirrelly when things go sideways, because they will, often.
