Freaking wonderful…NOT

Placer county is less than 100 miles from my home! We are fked to the max and need a new government agency that thinks with their heads and not with their feet! I know that it will never happen, but we can always dream.

Placer is only 5 miles from me.

I’m already prepped for emergency situations.

Much like politics, I’m choosing to ignore all the “noise”. One day at a time.

Happily I finished purchasing things for a possible quarantine a few weeks ago. If nothing else…my anxiety level has eased up considerably. I can’t even fathom having to go out now and try to find needed items in the midst of the panic buying that we see today. Being in the age group that seems to be most effected; the last thing that I need is stress!

I normally have extra foods, water, etc since Reno is in Earthquake country, and the summer fires in California (we get the smoke and ash, making it hard to breath) make being prepared a necessity. Have Kerosene, a heater, and a small generator too.
It was easy to just increase quantities of what was already on hand.
The real panic will ensue when those that doubt the threat come to grips with the harsh reality of what is occurring.
IF the US government is telling the truth (yeah right) and there will be millions of test kits available by next week…the shit will really hit the fan big time.

Prayers to the Italian people, and hopefully that strain doesn’t arrive on our own shores. (wishful thinking I know).

Nova Scotia appears to be gearing up ahead of any confirmed cases, by opening 12 testing centers around the province. You have to call 811 and speak with a health care person who will decide if you need testing, and if you do, will direct you to the nearest testing station. They said don’t go to the ER, and the tests take 48 hours to process and get results.

Gives me a little more confidence that they are taking this seriously, so long as they have enough test kits, and it’s not just bullshit trying to keep us all calm.

The wife is on board now, after saying she didn’t want to talk about it. She had a melt down yesterday with a lot of tears, after finally accepting this was happening, and we have discussed possible outcomes, and how we will self isolate, if one of us gets it, which would probably be me any way, as she doesn’t get out much.

Spoke to the daughters boyfriend, he knows how to keep sanitized and has little contact with the public, he is a mechanic and wears rubber gloves all day anyway.

His sister and her boyfriend, who are in the front line working at MacDonald’s and a packing company. His company has given them hand sanitizer and Lysol wipes to wipe the cart handles they use, but no info on what to do if they get sick. He says their warehouse is half empty now with little stock coming in to replenish what’s going out so he could be laid off shortly. I hope so as he is dumb as a plank of wood, sat there with a big grin on his face saying he wasn’t worried as it only kills old people. I told him my wife and I are old people and if he wasn’t going to take it seriously, to start packing now and find somewhere else to live, which took the smile off his face.

She has been told nothing by McD, not even a suggestion about wearing masks or extra hand hygiene, when dealing with customers, so she was put on notice as well to start being more careful and if either get a sniffle, they just stay in their room and don’t come up into the rest of the house. They live on take out, so I don’t have to worry about them coming up to cook. Failure to comply, and they go straight out the door to their parents places.

Spoke to my daughter last night, she says the Uni is doing nothing, other than stay at home if you are sick, but you will lose grades if you do miss an exam, which are just starting to happen.

I said, I was going to call them, and she told me not to waste my time, as lots of students have been complaining about this, and they just don’t care.

She only has 3 weeks to her last exam so that’s not too bad, she has stopped going to the gym, and is just exercising in the apartment. Has got a mask which she wears when going into uni, she is sterilizing it in the microwave afterwards, by placing in a plastic bag with a damp cloth and a Lysol wipe so she can re use it as they are hard to find. It’s just her flight home that has me worried. 3 transfers on different planes, Kelowna to Vancouver change, then to Calgary and change, then to Toronto and change to Halifax.

Sounds like you go it all planned out. My wife finally came around last week. It’s nice when people wake up and stop ignoring facts. If the facts bug them the problem isn’t with the facts :rofl:

It’s a hard thing to get your head around for some people, too scary too accept and change ones behavior patterns, to keep safe.

When you’re left to get your own info and solutions, because authorities are not doing it, and so much is conflicting, it’s hard to be rational about it.

It wasn’t until the EU, mainly Italy started to give accurate information, that she sat down and started to take it seriously.

At least Canada is about as far away from China as you can get, so we can learn from everywhere else, it travel’s through, before it gets really bad here.

Down in Southern California it is pretty wild. L.A. has something like 20 confirmed cases now and people are freaking out a bit.

I went to the store last weekend and there was no toilet paper or disinfecting wipes AT ALL haha.

Crazy.

A Hamilton health sciences Dr from Ontario tested positive for COVID-19 after returning from a trip abroad. Since the doctor’s return to work, she was in contact with both cancer patients and staff members.
