Italy’s government didn’t take the necessary measures to contain coronavirus when it first started spreading in the region. Human beings don’t have an innate understanding of exponential functions. When the number of coronavirus cases in Italy was in the double-digits, people were still comparing it to the flu. But since the disease is spreading exponentially, things quickly spiraled out of control.
The U.S. government’s approach to containing the spread has been even worse. Not only has President Trump himself downplayed the threat, but the U.S. is not yet testing enough people.

I’m scared to death now … This is close … The governor of PA just effectively shut down all of Montgomery County effective tomorrow. All schools are closed, all gyms, all events, all social gatherings. He is “strongly recommending” closure of all retail establishments and restaurants. The rate of virus spread has now reached an alarming rate and this is the only feasible way to contain it. We live 5 minutes from the border of Bucks and Montgomery Counties.
The same recommendations have been made for the rest of the state but they are mandatory in Montco.

I’m not scared of the virus … Just looting , getting supplies etc … I’m very rural and have a dui . 15 minutes to the closest store for me …

One of our friends works in a hospital, and says it’s definitely in the hospital right now. It just isn’t being reported because they don’t have test kits to confirm 100%. It’s everywhere already, I’m afraid… even places where it isn’t reported.
Testing numbers confirm… we’re pretty far behind.

Until this am, I saw none of the shortages of food, cleaning products, etc. I wasn’t worried so much, until I needed to go to the store for toilet paper. We went to the Big W. My land, what a disaster. We just marveled at the contents of the carts. Toilet paper, Gatorade, water. The bare shelves in the cleaning product and paper isles were something. I was just there yesterday, and things were normal. Restocking has been happening today until there is nothing left to restock. Then there were the carts laden with high proof and coke, like Hurricane Party prep.
We are arranging clinic visits to happen as phone consultations.
I am so glad we went today. Maybe it will help us avoid the panicked. The drivers in that parking lot and the people pushing carts were nothing to mess around with. I am glad that we got to see some crazy, but that we can now avoid it for a couple of weeks if we need to.
The atmosphere in that store was unpleasant. Worse than that “fixin’ to bust” Black Friday feeling. It’s a little like the world flipped overnight for this small town.

Starting to happen in the midwest now. Surge on TP mainly, with a smaller pull on fruit juices, and natural products. Hand sanitizer is gone as quickly as it arrives. Aloe vera gel, and 70% iso picking up sales…as people realise they can make their own.
