Mornin’ ya’ll,
Day 44f
I took a break from waking up at 430am to do my workout, to instead wake up at 430am to knock out some much needed garden chores. I’m so tired when lights pop on at night, that I just water, smoke, play Angry Birds, and stare longingly at the plants, before it’s time to hit the hay. Think it may be time to rethink my lights-on schedule.

Got the flower tent staked and took clones of most of the vegging plants for next round. I did find another DLA 5 f2 and Good Medicine f3 females this morning. I like the structure on both the DLA and GM’s. They both have a similar sturdy frame and branching. The DLA 5 f2 runt is the stinker though and has double serrated blades. Will probably run the runt first this next round as it’s got winner written all over it. Hope I’m right! Definitely feel more at peace with the world now that those chores are completed.

As I was staking, I dragged most everything out of the tent and took photos. Will probably be the last time I drag them out before chop day.

Dude, I just mentioned to my girl last night how happy I was that I decided to run the lights during the day this winter, as opposed to my usual nighttime lights-on winter schedule that I’ve been doing for the last eight years. I never realized (I kind of knew haha) how much that “waiting for the lights to turn on at 8pm” thing bothered me.

And I don’t even have a job! Or kids! Haha. But yeah, that sorta waiting around for the lights to turn on so you can water and whatever when what you really wanna be doing is gearing up for bedtime is definitely annoying.

Plants look good! Haha.

What’s going on with that one? She looks a little freaky… haha.

Morning folks! :sunrise_over_mountains: Hope everyone’s having a chill weekend, and hopefully a long 3day weekend cuz of MLK day!

:fist:

I hear what you’re saying about light schedules, but I didn’t feel like I had any choice this year. My light schedule is overnight because of the crazy cold we’re having. 845pm to 845am currently. It is kinda a pain to have to work at night (my bedtime is normally 930-1030pm), but they would be getting really cold during lights off if I had the cycle flipped.

Right now lights on temps are hovering around 68-72F at the canopy overnight, and then lights off temps are staying 64-66F while lights are off during the workday. This was the temp outside yesterday at 8am:

Here’s the tent as on day 1F (1/1/24):

And 6 of the 8 individual SIPs plants getting trimmed up before the pic above was taken:

Dragon Hammer #3 (NN cut)

Mother’s Milk #31

Nigerian Rafiki #8 (NN cut)

Santa Cruz Blue Dream

Spellcaster #10 (NN cut)

Tahoe OG

Since then, I’ve been bending/pinching, and trimming to try to keep stretch under control. The cold temps are definitely helping with that!

The two other plants are my GG4 cut and a BH ix3 #3 “early purps”(75-85 days flowering), but they have not been happy in the Earthboxes from the beginning despite the exact same treatment as the other plants. I also have a few clones getting ready to get pollinated by some reversals I’m trying with STS.

Last night, after lights came on, I worked in there from 930pm to midnight, pruning all the small sucker growth and lower nodes, doing a final topdress of homemade bokashi, watering it in with homemade yahwhey and rootwise bio-phos. Hope all that biology gives them a boost.

I also raised the lights up to the top of the tent, which gave me another foot of height for them to stretch. This week I’ll put a net on them and start weaving them through. Monday is day 14F so they should be beyond halfway thru stretch.

I feel like almost all the pictures that I’ve seen of Lemon G have looked “sativa” and leafy, though despite being from OH, I’ve never had it haha. I think a few people are growing it on OG now. Anything standing out in terms of smells? Your plants look great as always!

Very interested to see what you think of that one and how it compares to tk.

So far I really like her. Looks, tastes, grows and smokes more like a Kush bush rather than a viney OG. Could be a hybrid of the two. Based on my initial shitty grow, Tahoe’s really not in the same ballpark as TK. I don’t think that’s a good comparison.

TK looks, tastes, grows and smokes like an OG. Tahoe has some OG-adjacent rubbery/perfume notes, but is more of a dry/minty flavor to me, and then a clear headed, focused and relaxing effect. It lets me down easy, but others who smoked my harvest have said it has a heavy crash for them (sleepy time).

Giving her another shot this round since last time there were issues. She’s super happy and healthy this round. Also, she’s produces a ton of huge fan leaves and doesn’t stretch very much for me. Could be cuz of the high light intensity?

That’s been the only real drawback re running the lights during the day, is just how cool it gets in there during lights off. I forgot to open the heating/AC vent in the room a couple nights ago, got down to 63 in the tent, so now I’m just leaving it open all the time to avoid forgetting again haha.

What do the flowers look like? Tahoe to me always looked very distinctive, even apart from other OG’s. It was like somebody grabbed a nug at both ends and strrrrrretched it out. It still had those “teardrop” calyces, but they were longer than “regular” OG’s. And the flowers themselves always seemed just… like… longer haha. They really did always look like somebody stretched a nug out.

Very distinctive is a good way to describe the Tahoe. Here’s an imperfect grow at harvest day 65F - the end of the run where this Tahoe plant had surgery at day 12F (posted in this thread).

And the cured flower shot:

I think your description is pretty accurate. Here are my initial smoke report notes from a couple weeks after she went in jars: Stinky, sticky nugs of rubbery sweet OG perfume, taste adds a little mint. Hits right behind the eyes, clear headed indica effects for me for a couple hours, but some folks get a bumpy landing that turns into a hard crash. Stony but focused, doesn’t give me the munchies.

Tahoe grows like an OG crossed to a Kush. She has very distinctive leaves, and stacks rather than stretches in my garden.

Great thread! I’ve been browsing through it (+ all your links). Still lots more to read though.

I’ve done a lot of different styles/methods over my 20 (ish) years growing but haven’t done a SIP.
I think I might give it a try. Looks like fun! Living organic soil is probably my favorite method too, so this is right up my alley.

What is the smallest Rubbermaid tote size you can get away with? What’s the smallest size I could use and keep things running smoothly during the grow?

I’ve done organic living soil in 5 gallon fabric pots and made it work with supplemental feedings and compost teas but bigger pots seem to work better IME. They just take up so much space though.

(sorry if this info is already somewhere in the thread. I’m still reading)

Have you ran this one before sounds like a killer cross want to try something in his rafiki line would love to find a pack of docs rebel rafiki (white haze x Nigerian rafiki ) or the mango rafiki (dreadbread x Nigerian rafiki sounds killer toofrom what I’ve seen of nobodysnurserys selections has been stellar he does up those longer flowering stuff right! Going to have some trees on your hand there @nube

Very informative great pictures love seeing these cuts grown to be able to compare to crosses to see influences pretty sure I have a Tahoe og leaner in my Tahoe og x tge growing right now

You got me excited about SIPs all over again. So I thought I’d ask your input. I haven’t set them up in my space because I get quite a bit of rust in my water. I have living soil with worms in fabric bags. Currently I water my plants to runoff to help it rinse through. I feel like if I use a SIP the iron will accumulate and cause issues over time. But maybe not?

I think next round I’ll give it a try. Originally, my thinking was it would be cooler at night, but the summer months can be just as hot at night, as it is during the day. Also, isn’t electricity more expensive during peak hours? Either way, I think it will be a nice change.

Thanks, man!!

Not sure. The other clone has the mutated leaves and leaf bleaching, but definitely not as bad. Maybe a fulvic mishap? That’s the only thing I can think of except for natural weirdness.

Dang! Makes sense! That is cold! Wish we would get some of that cold air blowing over this away. My son and I are itching to dust of the sled and get to it! Lots of rain, but no snow!

Clean as a whistle! Love the thorough updates, brother. Always some good nuggets!

I’ve started cleaning all suckers and lower nodes, but leaving all the leaves. My thinking is in the diy set up, they act as a overwatering barometer of sorts. Once I see a little necrotic in those lower leaves I start skipping a night or two of watering. Could be total horseshit, but seems to have worked well so far.

Are you using the same recipe as @iamyou_youareme used to make his last batch? What are your feelings on the Grokashi recipe? CrunchBerries’Probiotic SIP Thread - #42 by CrunchBerries
Azomite? EM Super Cera? Beet juice?Youngevity 2.0? This is a project in my very near future.

Thanks, man! It does look super leafy! Good thing everything else in the tent are easy trimmers.
I’m horrible at describing smells, but I’m getting a plasticy-muted-lemon smell. Kinda sweet and savory. I’ve said it before, but it reminds me of my mother in laws fried plantains. When I was trimming up the first round, my wife said it smelled like Chinese food.

Thanks, man! I’m glad you found the thread useful. People run micro-sips like @bassman5420 and ole’ @Maddawg loves his 7.5 gal. Right now, I’m running 10 gal, and seems like it’s perfect for my needs. They grow plants large enough for my needs, have enough juice to get through a run (w/ 3 topdresses), and their small enough that I can easily lift them out of the tent to inspect plants. The smaller the container, the less room their is for flexibility.

Ha!Ha! I did the same thing and decided to just leave it open.

Thanks, man!!:heart::call_me_hand::green_heart:

Yeah, I guess that’s an issue I would be concerned with also. Maybe you could get some rain barrels or use RO water in your set up. Maybe there’s a type of mushroom you could use to help clean up any heavy metals from your soil while it’s cooking for next round. Mycoremediation? Honestly, I don’t know. Just spitballin’. Maybe the sewing circle could chime in on this one….

Did find this article
Growth response and mycoremediation of heavy metals by fungus Pleurotus sp. | Scientific Reports.

Looks like Fungi Perfecti has these. Could be a fun two-fer project.

7.5 to 10 gallons isn’t bad at all! I can definitely make that work. Thanks!

One more quick question for you. I saw in one of the threads you linked in the first post that he recommends high doses of dolomite lime.

This thread, post #6:
https://www.rollitup.org/t/greens-gorilla-glue-4.979073/

He says at least 3 cups in his SIP. Is that how much you are running too?

Just seems like a lot of dolomite.

@TeddyNuggets I use Oyster Shell Flour at 1 cup per cu ft. of soil.

Ok cool, thanks! That’s about what I use too. Or sometimes I use 1/2 cup oyster shell flour and 1/2 cup dolomite lime.

Mycoremediation is a brilliant idea! I wonder if those yellow flower pot mushrooms would do it. I grow a lot of those :woman_facepalming: though I’ve tried some others. Winecaps are in my pots, but only fruited once and didn’t taste good. If I grew oysters I’d want to eat them - and my iron is often kind of low, so maybe that would be a perfect step 3.:heart_eyes:
You’ve made me recall reading something about bioremediation with other plants and algae. I’ve got some fun reading to do now, thank you!!

That’s why I decided recently that I’m just not gonna flower anything between mid-June and mid-August anymore. My thinking before re growing in the summer was that we’re gonna be running the AC during the day anyway, just because it’s sooooo fucking hot here usually. But even running the AC constantly, the tents still don’t get any cooler than 88/89/91/93!!! haha. And the AC dries everything out (plus, humidity here is like 12% all summer anyway), so even with five humidifiers running it’s still only like 32% in the room.

Super-hot, super-dry, wasting power, running up the electricity bill… It’s just a bad combo haha. And I do think the plants suffer, as well. Drying is where I think everything takes the biggest hit, so… No more! Haha. I’m looking forward to not growing in the summer, actually. My girl and I can actually go do stuff now haha…

I think it’s just natural weirdness. Have you been watering with a bunch of fulvic lately? I did overdo it with fulvic for an entire grow once and the plants definitely grew a little weird, so maybe? But only if you’re watering with like five times the recommended amount, like I did that one grow haha.

I have the same issue here in the summer. Way too hot!

The biggest issue for me is the humidity though. It gets very humid here in the summer and I have to run dehumidifiers in the room, which add tons of heat. I’ve tried pumping out the hot air from the dehumidifier but then it doesn’t dehumidify properly.
I can mostly keep it in check with a window a/c unit I built into the wall but even with the a/c I still need to run the dehumidifier too and my electric bills get ridiculous.

This past summer was brutal. My a/c unit decided to die on me mid flower and I couldn’t replace it (due to its location in the room), so temps were in the high 80’s/low 90’s. A bunch of plants fox-tailed like crazy on me and started throwing out new growth in late flower too. It didn’t help that I wasn’t able to dedicate much time to my room either. We had a family tragedy that flipped my life upside down.

I ended up turning most of the harvest into hash and edibles + I gave away a bunch of oz’s to friends and family.

I’ve been telling myself for years now that I’ll shut down for the hottest summer months but always seem to end up having runs that go into July/august… lol.

You’ve gotta plan better haha.

My “growing season” used to be May 1 through the end of March/beginning of April of the next year and then chill for a few weeks until the next May 1. Since I decided that I won’t be growing in July/August anymore, I’ve flipped it to starting seeds on August 15 and then getting as much stuff in as I can before June 15.

This’ll be the first year I’m instituting that plan, though haha, so we’ll see how it works out. But yeah, the next round of seeds that I’m gonna plant will be mid-February and vegged for shorter than I usually veg (around 45 days). I figure if I flip them in early April, they’ll still be done by mid-June at the latest. But that’s also because I’m gonna plant some stuff that supposedly only takes sixty days.

Like I said, we’ll see how that works out haha…
