See what happens when you bring up fucking biochar @minitiger Ha!
Thank you big homie! We are both overjoyed and scared to bring this healthy little boy into this world. If he’s not the one, he’ll always be our one!
Any day now!!!
I’ve personally used DIY charged biochar (it’s posted on OG someplace) and I’ve also grown without it.
Honestly I couldn’t tell the difference. (Atleast enough to do it again) So I don’t purposely look to add it in, If it happens to be in the bag cool, otherwise pfftt.
At best, for me anyways, Biochar is a hideout for many different microorganisms that could definitely assist with the soils overall health.
Hallelujah, a lil crunch boy to play us all into a better place. Fear/Love. I would argue that the love is so powerful the only way we know to describe it is fear. Y’all gonna do great. I mean living soil, sourdough, KNF and Jah know what else. Not the recipe for BAD parents.
Easy now star, the I been selected, seen.
BLESS UP
Well, in nature it’s common for more than one seed to germinate in the same general area. If 10 seeds drop and only one survives, it’s a success from the plant’s perspective. If we germinate 10 seeds and only 1 survives a hot/wet mix, it’s not as much a success. I’m having my best success recently with straight Pro-Mix HP myself, but I’ve also used the same mix I grew in as well as a lighter mix. Interestingly, the worst experience I had was from a bag of actual seedling mix that came with a double dose of fungus gnats.
Haha, yeah, I just logged on and was kinda going through all the alerts (I follow a shitload of people’s threads) and got to this one and was like,”Uh… What’s going on here?” haha.
Didn’t mean to stir the pot! I was just making jokes about that time last year when I got stuck at a weirdo’s house for four hours trying to buy biochar haha. He was a very friendly guy, I liked him, but he sold me uncharged biochar and it fucked up my soil bins, so…
Anyway, yeah, I dunno… haha. I will agree with syzygy, though, and say that I don’t really know if biochar’s all that necessary. I don’t think it’s necessary in indoor grows, anyway, but I do think it’s something that maybe oughta be incorporated into outdoor farming all over the world. And not just for weed, but for every grown thing.
Also, I do think that Coot’s a total dickhead (but I’ve been saying that for years). Just because I use “his” soil mix, that doesn’t mean I have to think he’s an awesome human being. He isn’t.
Anywayyyyy… haha. What were we talking about? Good luck with the upcoming toddler, crunch! Haha…
Yeah, it all works. Growing weed is pretty easy. We can use a lot of different things to do it. Nobody’s method is “the best one.”
Yeah, I don’t get it, either. But you know, it’s cool having fans… haha.
Good morning, everyone,
I hope everyone is fully caffeinated and medicated this fine morn! Thank you to everyone that chimed in on my question about seed starter mixes and starting seeds. Its been a wild ride!!
There’s tons of ways to start seeds. But if I’m buying an expensive pack of seeds that aren’t available anymore, then I’m gonna give them hopefully the best chance. I’ve tried starting in my usual soil but I think it’s too alive and I never had good results.
Used to use the wet paper towel method but after thinking about it, I switched to the shot glass of water. When the seed sinks, it’s filled with enough water to get it started, so I direct sow it into seed starting soil after that and I’ve been having better success with it.
Shit got a little sideways here eh? @CrunchBerries FWIW re: the seed starter mixes, you could probably pop in just some peat or coco with a little aeration mixed in, totally devoid of nutrient though so you probably gotta be pretty quick to feed em once they start growing
Fresh seeds go straight into root riot cubes. Older seeds I’m gonna soak in h2o2/water for 24h, then crack them and put them into a wet paper towel. Then into something neutral so they don’t burn up.
I think cracking is the best way to germ older seeds. Cannabis seeds are composed of 3 main parts - the shell, the embryo, and the endosperm. The endosperm is starch that’s coated around the inside of the seed for the embryo to consume to create energy while it is germinating. If there isn’t enough endosperm, the embryo won’t have enough food to create enough energy to bust out of its shell. If the seed shell is too strong than the embryo can use up all the endosperm trying to create enough energy to bust out of the shell. So if we crack the seeds, the embryo doesn’t have to create/use much energy to bust out, and can use that energy to grow. I wonder if we should start sowing seeds in potatoes now
Chiming in. I did hear back from coots and because of the decline of quality in biochar it is no longer recommended/ not necessary if using pumice/ lava rock like I thought. I get it locally and 20 bucks gets what seems like a life time , have used it and will continue to. I owe syzygy a apology and did. Ya learn something new every day. Now I don’t need to drive half hour to restock on it going forward when i do run out.
I have used Root Riot cubes in the past but the thing that trips me out about those is, they are supposedly made of peat moss but even after being in some of my soil for 4-6 months for outdoor grows and even put into totes for months for recycling soil, those little cubes were still in the same shape as they went in afterwards. With worms and all kinds of microbial life, I was a bit surprised they didn’t break down. After that, I said screw those things.
Chop day is fun times can’t wait to see some smoke reports going to roll up a leg with yah!
I found they don’t decompose as well. From my understanding it is due to the binders they use. The Floraflex ones are 50/50 coco/peat and supposed to decompose better. Been using them, but haven’t noticed if they dissappear or not.
Well that’s a wrap y’all! Day 68 Be good family!
