I dry in a tent that is maintained at 60f, 60rh. It usually takes about two weeks to dry. Last grow I let them veg too long and ended up with a larger harvest than expected. It took me 4 weeks to finish trimming it all. In the end I really couldn’t tell a difference between the ones I jarred and cured after 2 weeks and the ones that cured hanging in the tent. Am I losing out on just letting them hang? The idea of not having to maintain and burp all those jars is intriguing. Does the sealed jar do something that I am missing out on with the open air method?
A long hang with a Targeted RH % is the perfect goal. So many targets right ?
Entraining moisture before the cure is a step towards the long-haul, I feel.
Managing the big % spike in first week, meeting it and maintaining it (rh 63-65% in week 2+
A Perfect world sees it chopped day 20, ready for a cure of staggered burps.
After “kind of” skipping some Burp stages myself last year, I’m ensuring there’s a couple weeks of burping, after hanging, before freeze-storing the 2025 Crop.
Volume and Life did not let many strains Hang to the full “20 day mark” last year. It’s a Legit
@Growing_peas_of_mind
I cut the shade leaves off. Then I hang it in a dark cool closet until it will burn. Then I smoke it ! Sugar leaves and all.

That’s me usually. I gave up on burping after molding out a couple of jars. It would be nice to have a room with controlled temperature and humidity, however.
60% in the room, 60% in the jar. No difference.
That what Led me to Hang, then Freeze so many batches last fall.
There’s a tad sharpness to couple of the ‘24 batches; thats where I’m thinking of a couple burp sessions @Foreigner b4 the freezer.
I just strip the gear from the tent @rasterman into my porta-room…
Humidifier / Dehumidifier / A/C are all running on st/pt’s
It probably makes for some sweet smoke! ![]()
Still super impressed with Buds that have been carefully vac-frozen, and thawed slow.
Like they were right off the bush !
I think i’ve seen ppl talk about Boveda bags, that preclude having to burp too much.
I’m at about 12 days hang on the dry then they get trimmed and put into grove bags. The only kinda burp they get is when I open the bag to pull a nug for smokin. I did jars with a boveda and religiously burped them for awhile but after some moldy jars, constantly burping dozens of jars and feeling like the boveda packs were leaving a scent on my flower I switched to grove bags and never looked back.
Do you have a write up anywhere for how you prep them for the freezer? Or is it just dry>short cure>vac seal>freeze?
Seen a bucket with one of these
15 or less if you catch em right. Once you get down to desired moisture activity then jar it maybe? Rather pop one lid. 1-5 gallon buckets think the head room plays too.
Another great discussion.
Short answer: Sure thing!
Me personally(stoned ramblings)…
I’ve bought into the jar-cure method. Seems to work alright. Been doing it for years.
But I gotta admit, my cure game still needs work big time. No, my buds ain’t comin out like hay(well, once in a while), but I know I’m not achieving full terpine potentials.
It’s also been very hard adapting to a dry mountainous climate. Compared to where I was before. I’m lucky to have a cellar/cold storage that can stay in a decent range throughout the year. I also think that the 60/60 thing works. I shoot for three weeks these days. If I choose to leave a lot of leaf and do a final trim before I buck it down to jar, I might get a month. I still get spikey jars on occasion(64-68%). It freaks me out. I’ll leave them bitches open for two days with a shake in between, lol. But like @Foreigner said. If the room is 60/60-so are the jars.
I actually had a slight freak out this last round. Trusting shit equipment. Damn digital has been good for years, but something felt off. We’d had a pretty long spell of weather. I threw some mechanical gauges up in there and we’re sitting 70+. It ran that way for four days.
Two to catch it and two to fix it. I always try to manipulate my environmental controls with the least amount of power(fans weren’t workin, lol) had to run the dehu. It could have been catastrophic.
Anyways…
When the smell, taste, feel, burn, and high are on point before the jar, I consider that a serious win. I have either found some amazing flower, or I’ve absolutely nailed the cure(dry).
In the end, everything is up to personal preference. If it’s alright by you, who says there has to be right or wrong?
Much love, best of luck!

TL;DR
Sure! Why not?![]()
You’ve pretty much nailed it right there @NoCal
I was also wondering how much air do you vacuum out the bag and do you seal them up at 62rh
I hang dry as close to 60/60 as I can when my wood moisture meter reads around 18 on the stem I buck them down to fit shoe box totes and monitor the RH until they are ready for grove bags. If buds are really dense or extra swole I might get the stem moisture readings down closer to 15
I Do Not squish the buds… that can ruin them… have your finger on the trigger and don’t collapse the 3d aspect @plantaddict
All the time leading-up to this Sealing moment, the buds have been w/ steady rh%. Once the bags are sealed and excess air/moisture is removed, you only have the moisture left within the Buds !!!
The top pkg below is pretty close to too-far. The btm 2 are fine, “just starting to suck the sides-in”
When these buds thaw out, a moisture meter will show they are 60%+, fresh & bouncy.
Thats how the nugz come out, many
Months later
After they are done curing they go into grove bags inside a wine fridge set at 60. I cant attest to bovidas version, but the grove still taste good and moist after a year.
