Cut off Dying leafs?

Hey there! I’ve got a quick question. Got two Purple Punch plants growing in soil, in a 2x4 tent. One plant is now rapidly growing faster than the other. It’s been like this for about a week and I noticed that a couple leafs on the bottom of the “stunted” plant are dying off. Should I cut these? Maybe the plant is using its energy on those and not to grow more?

Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

I would cut them off, yes; but also pay attention to what the leaves are telling you. You seem to have some curling going on to the top leaves too.

Any idea what could be causing the curling?

Nutrients or overwater most likely - here is how you search out info:

That would be clawing from a build up of ppm in pot , also probably the reason of stunting ( clawing is like dragons claws with talons as tips pointing down )
Reduce ppm by 100

Curling / witches fingers is a different look and starts at top working down , that’s waterloging

The plants look very green , maybe a boost in p and k would do no harm , say a feed or two of bloom at that reduced ppm or slightly less again

I would also water/feed less volume as leafs at top look maybe bumpy over inflated kind off

You got enough calcium and mag in your feed ? , that will be next to show if not much being added

It’s a judgement call, I’d clip that leaf off.
When leaf tissue goes necrotic it can be colonized by fungi etc. and be an infectious source for any plants nearby. Same issue for old leaves laying on the soil.

They stuck and need to move or convert.
What do you think about foliar to drip i read you can dilute like that.

me i was taught by my mom to cut the dying leaves off, as the plant spends energy on those, i know i wont smoke that or miss it later. just me though, anything dead does not belong with the living, if its on your grow medium or touches that surface it goes. i want to keep the plant healthy and i want that energy from the plant to focus on the happy healthy growth

pluck rather than clip if you are that way remnants aren’t left, quick pull on the leaf stem in a downward direction will typically pop most fan leaves off cleanly at the stem, sometimes you get stringers.

@GYOweed , I’m not sure of that method , or what it entails : )

Always cut those type of leaves off or your plant will use up energy trying to fix it…
I wouldn’t of guessed it was overwatering when your medium looks bone dry. My guess would of been under watering and letting to much salt build up :peace_symbol:

Usually I get rid of them bc they’re a weak link for bugs to attack.

I used this method for a heavy defoliation and my thinking was if a leaf didn’t come off easy like that I should probably leave it on

Definitely not seeing “water” anywhere. It’s fabric pots and you usually have to water every other day sometimes daily depending on water volume and temp…etc :peace_symbol:

I pluck them off because it makes me feel better about myself to not look at the ugliness Ive created.

I read once in one thread “dying leaves are a Hotel for pests and diseases”, that’s the kind of message easy to remember, down with them … beer3|nullxnull

Good advice.

Yup excess salt +1.

They need to be cut off at that point. I get them all the time. I just pinch mine. Most of the time as soon as you give a little pull they come off.
