Those stick on thermometers work pretty accurately so long as they are out of direct sun/light just cause being black they can absorb heat that way, ive been using them recently for temp in my cabs and place them above where my lights are and on my reservoirs.

Still patiently waiting! So jazzed!

Well two of the packs to other members have gotten munched in the mail so far, so today i started adding some bamboo skewer support rails to the packs.

So for anyone who hasn’t received them yet or are on there second attempt @Meesh all the ones currently in the mail don’t have those supports so im gonna expect a chance that some may get munched, just give me a PM if they do, and i can send out one of these new packs i have ready to go.

Just fine tuning things

Day 6

Looking at past pictures plants should be a bit bigger but now that they are going im dialing back to one watering a day, reason is i was just keeping things wet till they threw roots, and now that they have i don’t need to have them overwatered.

Also started two more “Green” pheno seeds, as one of the ATM’s is looking not so hot, and one of the other greens is lagging a little, so if they both sprout and are vigorous ill swap those two sites out.

Just need to keep a watch on the watering to see whats needed.

Yeah if you went back to post 31 in this thread you would see this picture Which was day 7 for them so were definitely behind and i know the tap roots on these new ones some of them are looking a little brown half from the coco color leaching and probably from some damage as well.

So thinking on that i was still running 52w a side as of a moment ago, said screw it and turned both sides up to around 134watts each and plugged in my fans, sink or swim.

Sorry for the stupid question…

Would you attribute the difference in growth to the change in the media by any chance?

definitely but more from the starting aspect and initial root growth, just something i need to dial in.

I was curious about that, because I have no doubts about the root structures you have shown, I was just wondering because of the chunkiness of the media being used whether that would contribute to a bit slower root development (i.e. less tactile surface for an emerging root to grasp) and hence a bit slower seedling development. I don’t doubt that once they are established they will take off, just a stoner moment I guess…lol

No stoner moment there that’s exactly how i figure it, plus also keeping up with a quicker watering frequency as the chunky stuff doesn’t hold onto as much water just due to particulate size and water tension properties.

To counteract that ive been playing with making a little nest of smaller pieces that hold on to water better and starting off the seed in there.

It just ive underestimated at how well and for the ease that you could start seeds in good reg coco with the discussed factors above and having a good routine which i did for me.

Just need to trial and error a bunch of seedlings with this bigger stuff and making some minor changes to make it easy.

Hahahahaha! No, that’s my adopted “rescue” child. He doesn’t speak at all so we just feed him joints and keep the volume up to 10 on his headphones. I have no reasonable explanation for the chicken!

“One day later”
lol

Did a shuffle keeping the best and then pulled the weaklings gives me a chance to get the start dialed in, Just put those two of the green pheno seeds into paper towel and they have cracked also dunked some of @ReikoX FAM seeds i like the striping pattern on seed shell its pretty cool.

For this next start im reusing the same stuff but dug/left a small center cone section that i filled with some shredded stuff “pulsed in a blender for a couple of hits” that should provide more contact and retain water a little longer as its a bunch of separate fibers acting like a loose mat and smaller particles mixed into that, guess we will see, may need to go deeper with it, just gonna watch how it dries in the cab and should have a gauge on it over the next couple days by the time those green phenos are ready to plant.

That’s a good plan. You could also put a ‘plug’ of the finer regular coco in there too. I’m sure once they catch in a day or two it doesn’t really matter either way.

for simplicity i don’t have any, my other goal is to only have to buy and few things as possible, no need to keep the finer stuff if i can just shred this for the same function while keeping bigger for my main fill.

Well not to lead everyone on but i killed them all.

Was taking a look at initial root structure and they just need some finer particles to latch on to and less big obstructions in their way at least at the start, so decided to lightly blended a bunch of the coco i had made up already, still has big chunks in it but now with finer particles and fiber strands taking up a lot of the previous air gaps, should be happy zones for the initial roots and aid with keeping thing more even moisture wise, Saying that volume has increased slightly in doing so, but still looks to hold the same amount of water, so should have a bit more potential roots space in the end anyways

Considering how small of containers i typically use i just filled my containers with this new mix, definitely feel more confident with this newer stuff but only time will tell.

I’m definitely going away from one of my base background goals of keeping stuff simple, with the amount of washing needed for this chunky stuff and blending it to make it more ideal for initial root growth, so it’s making me lean going back to good bagged coco “canna” but live and learn, and i’ll try and go through all this stuff first if this new format bodes well.

Needless to say started a bunch more seeds last night, and just planted the two green pheno seeds this morning that i already had underway, still gonna be another day or two before they poke their heads out, but the lights are off till then,
