Deep Ellum Seed Co

I’m taking a label public in 2019, but since the Free Beans that we’re giving away generated so much buzz, I think I should go head and introduce myself now.

My name is rob and I breed for the Deep Ellum Seed Company. For nearly 2 decades, we have have selflessly risked our freedom and our lives, quietly providing wellness products to our friends, neighbors and the community.

We are a small underground label; there’s just two of us. Myself and my partner, “Doctor Dank”. He is an actual scientist and chemist, which comes in handy…

We don’t have a fancy million sqft facility with high tech gear, or millions of dollars of venture capitalist money behind us,
we are just two regular guys, trying the help the community and earn an honest living, the only way we know how. We do what we love and we love what we do.

we put the plant and the people first, and so far, neither has ever let us down.

between the the Doctor and I, we have over half a century’s worth of experience growing and breeding ganja.

I started growing in 1993, while the Doctor began earlier in the mid-1980’s, under the tutelage of his father, one of the founders of outdoor outlaw scene in the 1960’s.
Our strains are built largely upon the Doctor’s father’s old landraces and Nevil’s work.
the rest of our stock comes from when I traveled and strain-hunted and traded genes in the early 2000’s. and genes we’ve picked over the years…

here is a pic of my beloved aussie strawberry i got from Victoria. as far as I know, its now extinct in its homeland.

i ran my label from 99-04… the 1st two years were State-side.
and with help from friends north of the border, I was able to run my label out of canada from like 2001-2004, while mike stayed underground.
here is a pic taken in 2001, of my “Electric Blue”, Sag Blueberry x Nl5/Haze.

here is pic of me and gypsy nirvana at the 2002 Dordste Weed Cup, in holland.

Doctor Dank and I got together and merged labels in 2004. We’ve been combining our genes ever since…
Combining my old dutch genes, canadians and landraces, with the Doctor’s science skills and his dad’s landraces, proved the perfect “marriage”.

here is a pic taken in 2004 of my strain called “Peace Treaty”, which is Ak-47 x G13/HashPlant/Nl1…

Afghan/Mexican:

selection from original afghan mix:

Probably the most well-known strain of ours to make it out of the underground, is The Black.
The Doctor combined his dad’s 4 favorite landraces (an afghan, a vietnamese and 2 different mexicans), to come up with a dense dark indi/sat.
The name is from her dark color, but also because she is made up of the original black market landrace strains to reach our area, in the mid-1960’s.

We tried to go public again in 2007/08, when we had an arrangement with BC Bud Depot, to market The Black and take her to the A’dam Cannabis Cup.
They did get High Times to notice The Black, and the magazine names her a Top 10 strain of the year. Except BC Bud Depot fucked us.
They claimed credit for our strain and made millions of dollars off of our seeds. You can search here and find and in-depth story about how these guys fucked us over.
Karma will get them, we don’t have time to hold grudges, we work for a living.

Once bitten, twice shy, we went deep underground after that bullshit.

Now we’re coming back out. Before we do that, we made a few crosses, to give away here. We were line breeding and stabilizing for parents and rounding off our retail strains anyway,
and by doing one or two crosses for the fun, we thought would be a nice icebreaker to re-introducing our genes.
Plus, it takes 4-6months for any feedback to come out, which would be in-line with our 2019 relaunch…
We need strangers and non-locals to grow our genes and help spread the word.
the simplest way to achieve that is to give away bad ass genes for free on an online platform…

All of the free beans have been spoken for, but if the demand keeps coming on strong, we’ll dust some more for y’all…

the two we are giving away are g13xNL2 x Silver Pearl Haze, and The Black x Champagne.
here are some pictures…

Good luck with your new label! it’s very cool seeing these old school worked lines, landraces, and recent heirlooms like the strawberry and champagne. It’s going to be very interesting to see your catalog when you launch next year.

Good luck man. Hope it all goes well this time around. I’ll have to read up on what BC did to you guys. Never bought from a bank so it’s good to know how they work and treat people. Fantastic looking genetics too. I’ve had The Black before and it was superb.

Thank you all for the responses. I am hoping to add more photos to this thread. Both Doctor Dank and I have pix from 2000-present, and some of his date back even further…

Doctor Dank finally located his old harddirves and we’re attempting to recover all the photos; we thought the drives were long gone… He says he has thousands of pix, dating back to late 90’s… I have a few hundred on floppy disks myself. once we have time to mess with that, we should be able to represent each year growing in the 21st century with a few photos each…

btw, The Doctor Dank just pointed out to me that we started mixing our lines in 2014, not 2004 thats a typo…the EXIF on the peace treaty photo says 2004, i guess thats where it came from… idk how to edit a topic. and we didnt start ramping up activities until 2015 really…

we shared social media and slacked off on it. but thats in the past, i will try my best to respond in a more timely manner from now on. Thanks again for all the support. If u have any questions u can reply or Dm me here or email me, no worries. Cheers!
