I’m switching up my process a bit for this run. Usually I plant my seeds directly in the net pots in my DWC system but this time I’m taking a ‘mothers first’ approach (there’s probably already a better name).
I’m gonna select the best 10 seedlings and pot them up in 4 inch pots. I’m gonna grow out these to plants in this little cloning tent, topping as I go. Meanwhile I have 3 Malawi Gold plants flowering in my big tent with 9-10ish weeks left to go.
My plan is to keep these plants as mother and father plants and run a cut from the healthiest 9 plants once the Malawi is finished.
This should cut down time since the rooted clones can go straight into flower at 12/12.
Once they sex I’m gonna cull the males because I’m just looking for a female keeper this run so I’ll also remove the father plants and just keep the moms in the cloning tent.
Once this run is finished I’ll smoke all the ladies and decide which is the keeper, pot her mother into a 6.5 inch pot and toss the losers.
Good morning @Cr0Barron .
Do you have any pictures of the Deep Chunk .
I’m really interested in seeing the difference between freek chunk and toms deep chunk.
Very cool! I see the resemblance.
The leaves look right I see some of the trichs on the edge of the sugar leafs on the flower.
I was considering freak chunk.
So my seed germination hasn’t gone too well. There looks to be 6 seeds that have germinated nicely and produced healthy seedlings, 2 that have germinated but have strange leaves and lack vigor, then 2 weird mutant seedlings, 1 with no leaves and 1 with no roots and the remaining haven’t popped.
I think this is a result of seeds being at different levels of maturity during harvest. These Deep Chunk grew under a constant storm of pollen pretty much from seed because I misjudged the timings. I’ve since learned it’s best to give females 1 round of pollination at a certain point in flowering, not constant pollination.
Anyone with more experience let me know why these seeds aren’t popping so well, might be poor gernination technique as well.
I found myself having terrible germ rates when I direct plant, ended up killing/dampoff most and getting sub 50% germ rates.
I went back to paper towel method/ziplock till they 1/2 inch root shooting out to plant. I’m closer to 100% germ success rate now. Still get the stubborn seed here and there.
Could try 10 or so seeds and try it out but if not, here is another option from @JohnnyPotseed. I haven’t tried this way but another option. Many have found success with his method even with older seed stock.
