When you boys and girls say that you’re adding Peat Moss to your soil mixes, is that Sphagnum Moss or Peat.
Google says Peat Moss is a common name for Sphaguam Moss then the adverts below are selling Peat Moss which is peat.

Sphagnum moss. Although I am unsure the difference between the two… I top dress with S-moss mixed with fresh worm castings.
The feed store sells a peat moss/worm casting mix which is extremely similar to my hand mixed verson.

I think Sphagnum is green plant type moss and Peat is black peat from bogs

One experiment we could do is mixing each moss with milk (via blender) and pour the mix over your soil and seeing if each of the new moss growths are similar in anyway. One may not propagate while the other does.
…And basing on what dave just said the S-moss would be the only one that would propagate; as it is made from live plant tissue.

Sphagnum moss and peat moss are the same thing. The difference is sphagnum is the dried live plant where as the peat is the dead/decayed compressed form cut out of peat bogs.
