I have been making DnB for quite a few years now. Have a listen if you would like. Cheers folks.
Gear head. Nice. That looks like an organised smoke free studio. I make DnB as well. Been listening since the early 90s. I used to think everyone that liked DnB blazed green and laugh at how shocked I was when they didn’t.
An entire genre based off of one loop. I have made a song or two in the past with DnB influences but it is too limiting.
I can take the same techniques used to manipulate this one break and literally apply them to infinite breaks and or create the breaks myself.
Nice set with all the gear. I just use logic/ableton and launch key 49.
I do enjoy the tangentially related like The Prodigy and Burial.
Fucking sick g, was expecting to be disappointed by some cookie cutter liquid shite so hearing proper chopped breaks was a real breath of fresh air!
I don’t normally listen to it, but I enjoy it when I do, nice tracks ![]()
The entire genre isn’t just based on the amen break. There are tonnes of breaks used. Just as many as in Hiphop, like the Apache break or The Worm.
Here’s Apache by Matrix
The original
or The Worm break is used here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnypULZY0UQ
from the original jimmy mcgriff the worm.
Pretty much every clean and not so clean break has been used in drum and bass now. It’s a bigger genre than you’d think globally. Even huge K-pop and J-pop will have a track that has a drum and bass track these days.
I layer breaks so kicks and snares combine to create a different sounding break from the originals. If you combine the kicks from the amen, the worm and apache, you now have yourself a different kick, if you catch my drift.
These then become new breaks labelled with respect to the originals. So for instance the drum and bass artist Dom and Roland used the amen in a three way combo with two other breaks and dubbed the result - the Tramen - respect given to the original.
This is a list of breaks used in drum and bass just from one folder I have. Then think of all the drummers. Billy Cobham, John Bonham, Ginger Rogers - they’ve all been rinsed at some point.
Love how much y’all are into dnb / jungle.
I was hooked the moment I went to my first rave back in the early 90s.
Used to listen dubstep a lot until 3 years ago when I was just not getting enough of Neurofunk and UK DNB
Definitely the energy that any sub genre of DNB brings way pass the dubstep one ,
If any of you have a Spotify playlist share it please ![]()
Big dnb fan here
No probs. Check Dj Hazard Uk based, prins the best producer for jump up/ neuro crossover https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1SfdeJwfWIQyX195cIAttq?si=APV-5GOtTAunTkU9Ssfm8Q
Probably the best neurofunk producer right now is Current Value. German dude. He is big into synths and is a top programmer. Pretty much any of his albums you can play from start to finish
His album Puer is neurofunk crossover with jump up and his Deadly Toys album is high end neuro
If you want tech drum and bass check Dom and Roland also considered dark drum and bass. The Lost in the moment album here
This is my first album. I’ve done three. And they are on Dom and Roland’s Bandcamp
This is my spotify. Only my first two releases because label boss decided Spotify don’t pay out properly for the amount of streams and I haven’t pulled my finger out to put more up there
If you want more, I’ll happily rec more but I’ll be surprised if you listen to these recs tbh.
Fuck it . Last 2 rec. This guy might be the GOAT. Doesn’t actually make music anymore and tours with his own made soundsystem. Look up Valve soundsystem. He built it all by himself. True don. Dillinja. This album tumps
And these two are probably the best of the best that were on a different plain to everyone else in the late 90s to early noughties - Ed Rush and Optical. Optical was the engineer. His style was really musical and encompassed all the different styles. I have pretty much all his records released on vinyl
I spent all my youth till now dedicated to this music. I’m 46 now. It’s my life whether I like it or not. I could rec and rec and rec but I gotta go sleep. Got an eye test super early.
A few fire mixs ![]()
Heard of a few but definitely not all those recommended artists thank you. I just like dem in general but always got a soft spot for 172 / 178 bpm; the pace I move to ~
No Spotify as I don’t support them ![]()
I’ll check your stuff out asap mane thanks for the post! Below are artists I’m into at the moment. (Fred don’t touch the sound completely but still good producer).
Yeah but I’ve come to realize I’m stuck in the past lol. I haven’t heard any new DJ’s in quite a while but I do remember a few of my favorites.
Evol intent
Sub Focus
Stanton Warriors
Pendulum (of course)
Calibre
Deekline and Wizard
Lots of oldies I miss a lot.
Non stop since the mid 90’s.
I’m in Toronto
so Jungle is Massive isn’t just something yelled by the MC in a set.

Yeah. I don’t support the streamers either. Another reason I haven’t put more music up there because you’re paying for a subscription and it’s only the Taylor Swifts of the world that get paid accordingly. When asked about about why artists only receive thousandths of percentages of what they should be getting, the billionaire owner Daniel Ek said that artists should increase their output to suit his platform.
All the major streamers do it, Apple music, Amazon, whoever, they bend the artist right over so I totally hear you.
They all mostly still make beats and tour. I watched Stanton Warriors play before my friend at Dance Valley last year or the year before. Some had to switch up to using all the various new social media platforms that again make you dance to their tune. I can’t bring myself to do it. It homogenises every aspect of the craft.
