Does this look like early root rot? (DWC, first time grower)

Hey guys, currently growing in a heyabby (aware is not an ideal space, but growing in an apartment it’s what I have to work with.) I noticed white foam on some roots this morning. Looking online it looks like it could be anything from proteins, precipitating nutrients or root rot. This being my first grow, wanted your guys take

Just started week 3 of Veg and was using the supplied hey abby nutrients up until yesterday, where I swapped with Athena.

Before the swap, ran ph balanced RO through my system for half an hour or so before refilling. Products I used along with yesterdays readings-

2.5 Gallon mix

  1. Athena Grow 32 ml per gallon
  2. Athena core at 19 ml per gallon
  3. Athena cleanse 4ml per gal
  4. Athena balance to get up to 5.8 PH

5/23 readings:
5.83 PH
1320 PPM
2650 EC

Todays readings:

5.84 PH
1310 PPM
2610 EC

Have also used some PH down as well (used a hair too much balance at first)
Did spray some 3% hydrogen peroxide this morning and have some hydro guard that came in the mail today, haven’t applied any yet though - dental think I should?

Plant looks healthy still but don’t want to let this become an issue

Root rot turns the roots brown and slimy. Yours looks SUPER healthy.

Appreciate it man! could there be a benign reason for the foam?

Is this the “foam” you are talking about?

If so, can you get a better picture of it? Like a close up if possible.

Is it truly foam? Does it dissipate? Or is it more like a jelly/slime/snot?

I don’t see root rot btw. I’m not sure what the white stuff is without more info/pics.

Im sure there is. I dont do DWC so I can’t be for sure with your setup. Just keep an eye on the roots and if they start getting slimy add a teaspoon of H2O2 to your reservoir.

Foam should be fine especially if your plants look good. If something goes anaerobic it will have a slight smell/odor .

Correct, the stuff you circled. Let me know if this pic is a little better

Your roots look fine to me…

Too me you need to pick whether you’re going beneficial or sterile. If you’re going sterile, continue with that route if you’re going beneficial, you’ll need to start over with your reservoir. I would vote for the beneficial much easier on the plant and can’t really over due it so to speak. So I would say drain it and start over with the hydro guard per directions. I would even say no harm in adding a few mils per gal every 3 days if your resivor runs warm. Cheers !!!

Southern ag garden freindly fungicide, 1 ml enough bennies for like 15 - 20 gallons. Didnt read all the way thru idk if someone already said it or not, same shit as hydrogaurd but literally millions of times more consentrated. Easiest prevention i have used yet and cheapest, ran thru summers never seen the slime or rot since.

What does the plant look like? Got any pictures?

Looks great to me. Some foam is normal.

If you’re going to run hydro, I highly recommend using Botanicare HydroGuard, keeps your roots pearly white, amazing stuff. Works in soil, too. It also will clean up the worst black tar root rot I’ve ever seen, and significantly expands your root mass. It’s like bullet proofing your root system.

Welcome, and best of luck to you with your grow.

Sure thing!

Pinched tip of the bottom fan leaf is just from the opening of the reservoir lid.

Just dropped in 4 ml actually! Appreciate the advice, I’ll let you know how she responds

Cannot mix sterile reservoirs with beneficial reservoirs. It kills the beneficial immediately… that’s why I recommended you doing a new reservoir with hydro guard.

Thought i might be okay since I only did a few spritzes and it was 12+ hours ago, but will take your advice and do reservoir swap tomorrow. Still learning lol

Hydro Guard is bacteria that’s alive… it has to have a certain environment or it will die immediately. Given the right environment, it will colonize the roots and protect them from root rot, etc. predators also create a very good environment for nutrient uptake… even a small amount will throw the environment off…

Edit- that’s why I say if you have a warm reservoir, you can add it every three days because that’s their lifespan in conditions that are almost OK

Edit- hydro guard and Green AG are not the same. Nothing even close.

usually hover between 73-74 F. Have ice packs coming in ill slot in on the sides of the res, and will be making RO water bottle ice packs as well.

That works well, but I would add the 2 to 3 per gallon every 3 days between reservoir changes. And always add 2 to 3 mil per gallon with your reservoir change. Ideally every three days you would be just in case… it’s easy Insurance and the plants love it. You can’t really put too much hydro guard. There would really be no downside. Except in your pocket. When using correctly, you will never get root rot. Your temperatures are a bit warm so that’s why I say every three days. You can find some pretty good chillers used on social media. I got a back up version of this basically New for 100 bucks recently.
