doner123ebb' first grow diary - Flood and drain hydroton - CW Genetics Karma sour D x Guava

Hey guys, hope y’all having a great day over there. :grinning:

It took me a while to get into growing and even posting about it, but I’ve been nonstop at it for the last 18 months, and I’m currently in the beginning of my 6th run. So yeah, not the most seasoned grower.

My first run was soil with minerals and I wasn’t really happy about it. I tried to do too much at the same time and while I got to a decent result for a first time, I decided that it wasn’t what I wanted to learn.

I hesitated a lot to go for an organics soil grow, but in the end, I found a really KISS hydro method which has its minus and is a bit less popular nowadays, but I run a classic flood table with hydroton. Sometimes in pots, sometimes the whole table covered with a panda film, I’m not exactly sure which works best. This run, I’m running a mix of 6inch netpot and some similarly sized squared pot/heavy duty netpot.

I used a lots of infos from here, rollitup and a few books. I usually flood every 3-4 hours in veg and every 2 hours in flowering, when the lights are on. I used TA Dual Part, the EU equivalent of General Hydroponics. No supplements. I dont flood for long cuz my tray doesn’t have much depth. Max 5 mins for the thirsty strains.

My reservoir is about 23.5 gal, I add a bit of h2o2 every few days to keep it somewhat clean. I aim to change the rez every 7-10 days this run, to really see if there is a difference. I was busy with life with my last run and I changed it only a few times, about every 3-4 weeks.

Before I did everything in one tent, but I recently added a few really small tents to be able to germinate there and I also aim to give a try at bonsai moms to feed my SoG method with clones for the next runs.

Cuz yeah, I wanted to do as little training as possible and I run at the moment usually between 27-35 plants for 1 square meter with a lumatek ats 300w pro. So I start from seeds for now, but I hope to be able to start from clones from the next one.

This current run :
32x Clearwater Genetics Karma Sour Diesel x Guava

Germinating slowly under 32c+ as it was an heat wave here…

interesting thing going on there

It was my first time using an aerocloner. Holy shit, they just works…

First time using an aerocloner. I was a few days away with my family.

8-26: moving from their germ tent to the main grow tent. This time with pots.

Some are definitely more vigorous than others. Ill keep that in mind and save clones from about 10 of them in week 1-2 of flower, which should begin in the next few days. I wait for them to recover from the new environment.

Final update from this morning

Have a nice day guys, Ill try to post frequent updates! Stay safe! :grinning:
Im waiting a few more days to increase the EC and make sure the plants are acclimated to their new setup.

Bonus- a few pics from previous runs:

Ice Cream Cake x Lemon Cherry Gelato (Universally Seeded)

35 plants for one square meter :flushed: how long are you in trim jail after harvest? Like a week lol?

Looks great.

I use southern ag garden friendly fungicide in my dwc hydro setup. Little bit every week keeps the benefitial microbes in charge, h202 sterile setups can be less forgiving in the heat in my experience

Hi @Rgaaana, thanks for stopping by!

how long are you in trim jail after harvest?

With branchy strains, that’s a real pain in the ass. But with the Sinful, it got done within 3-4 hours because it was only really dense and easy to trims nuggets.

Its the sad reality starting from seeds, its not really possible to get a uniform results with that much seeds, like you can see some people do with clones. So for 30-35 plants, I always get a few bad plants who yield basically nothing. But it also means you get a few killers that will compensate. Hence I want to try from clones to experience the difference myself!

That’s super cool, do you have a diary on overgrow? I tried to look at your profile but I didnt find any.

I would love to run DWC but it would need a chiller in my setup and idk, I didnt like that idea. I’ve run my setup in all seasons and while its not optimal, I was able to grow last season with temp averaging sometimes 25-26c for a couple days in my reservoir. Its certainly not optimal but it definitely survived and I didn’t got any consequences, save maybe a somewhat smaller yield.

I’m not saying my method is better, because I would most likely run DWC if I could, but it works and I’m happy about the yields and flavours!

Have a good weekend!

Nice that’s not bad at all

My grow diary is just starting out, not much to see yet. I’ll be planting into net pots in a few days though

Tbh I’m a little bit scared about managing temps. Where i live doesn’t get to 75-80f for very long. might switch over to an ebb and flow or Coco coir setup if my temps are too extreme

Awesome, thanks for the link! Ill follow your adventures!

Where i live doesn’t get to 75-80f for very long.

That sounds indeed like the ideal climate for DWC! : )

That’s why I’m giving it a shot. If I have to run a space heater 24/7 I might switch over to a different medium.

I’m hoping that an aquarium heater to keep the roots warm at night will keep the plants from getting shocked from no space heater. Iirc down to 45 is fine for overnight :man_shrugging:

Very very cool! You dont see too many f&d tables these days. Nice clean setup.

Hi guys, hope y’all having a nice Saturday! Here Ive been chilling and relaxing, which is nice!

Added a net because I’m really lazy and sometimes do it too late. So better too soon than too late!

Also on my new mother tent, topped a Tech9 from Ziplock Seeds. (Double Shotz x Gas Face)

Stay safe guys! : )

Hi guys,

Hope your week is going well!

Day 3 of flowering for the ladies

Received my GLG orders and started some seeds to hopefully find a few good keepers in the next run. Planning to follow OT1 guide for bonsai mum’s.

Hello everyone,

Hope y’all having a great start of the week, monday’s are rough.

Day 8 after switching to 12/12

Yup, the height/vigor/pheno difference starts to show a bit more. I will start taking clones within the next 10 days and pray for the best. I think Ill select the best 10 plants and well see from there.

Really exciting as I’ve never done this before.

Take care everyone and see you for the next updates!
