Drying in a wine cooler—Any advice?

My buddy is moving across the country and giving me his wine cooler. I’m especially interested in drying in the fridge. Does anyone have any tips, ideas, or thoughts?

I wouldn’t use it for dry but I do have a wine cooler to store my jars.

Yes, but unfortunately I couldn’t find any more than a few mentions here and there. But hopefully I can change that by documenting my experiments in this thread

Just took possession of a used wine fridge that I’m going to use with usb fans and some humidity packs to try to dry!

I’ll post results here, but I won’t be harvesting anything for 7-8 weeks.

So, this morning I took down 14” Space Cake plant and stuffed it directly in the wine fridge at 46 degrees with a fan and a big Boveda 58 pack. Let’s see what happens!

I don’t know if that would be too cold, the optimal temperature for drying should be between 65 and 70 F … icon_e_confused|nullxnull

You could take up drinking wine to compliment the weed. Put the wine in the fridge and use the top for a bong stand. You liver will thank you.

They say that’s optimal, but I’m skeptical. I think a cooler dry will be better, but we will see….

As an 8 year sober alcoholic, I think that’s a great idea for someone other than me! :v:

I agree with this. Many blessings and much love

I know the microbes responsible of the cure process die with a humidity less than 50%, I wonder if they would be very happy with those cold temperatures and do their job, once dead they don’t come back …

Well, I hope :crossed_fingers: it works. If not, I only lose a little bud, but I won’t have to wonder.

I found a “broken” wine cooler (condensor style) at my neighbor’s garage sale today for $10. I was prepared for a bad compressor or damage but was hoping it was something minor. Turns out it works perfect. It holds at precisely 56 degrees and 50% humidity. I can’t believe my luck (literally). My plan is to plop a 4" USB fan in there, point at the wall, and then use water tray or butcher paper, accordingly. I keep trying to find the flaw in this luck. I’ll have to figure out how to get air in there in some unobtrusive way, of course.

Damn @navy66 you totally lucked out man!!! Keep us all in the loop if you don’t mind. I’d love to see how everything turns out. That temp and humidity, in my opinion, is money. What a score, I’m a jealous. Envious too. :sunglasses:

thanks! yes, I’m stupid-lucky! what do you think about the fresh air inside issue? I could open the door manually occasionally, but i’m not sure that is sufficient. plus, it means the lung room, i’m assuming, would have to be close to the same conditions, which at a certain point defeats the purpose. I’m brainstorming this right now – I do think I can handle the humidity ups and downs, and temps are covered. . .

. . .but drying buds require fresh air and I’m unsure they’ll get enough.

Hmmmm not to sure, you could burp the fridge every so often but air exchange definitely helps that’s for sure. You already got the most important part now it’s up to you to MacGyver the rest. No pressure we’re all counting on you lol.
