Drying weed safely and cheaply in apartments

My buddy Grover lives in Punjab, India. He will be growing his first crop this year, and needs to come up with a cheap, safe way to dry the weed without stinking up the neighborhood. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Many of the same things available in the states aren’t available over there, so we are going to need to get creative. Can fans are not an option, but if we could think up a simple activated carbon filter, maybe that would work? Weed is frowned upon in the area he lives in.

Thanks Upstate for greatly presenting my issue. I am thinking of ways to keep the mell within the room. possibly by planting some flowers along my window as i have quite a lot of windows in my room.
If somebody has any more ideas i would love to hear them or if somebody knows what kind of flowers i can use that be great as well.

I dried in my apartment complex before and as long as the temperature stays below 70, the stink is very minimal. I didnt have my temps below 70 and it reeked, all the terps were evaporating. I dry in my closet now and I can’t smell it in my room cause temps are right where they need to be. Carbon filter would be a great addition to cover any remaining smell

Thanks for the advice i will surely look into keeping my temps below 70, would it be possible to mask the smell with something other plant?

I dry in a small room with no exhaust. You can’t smell it outside the room. The buds themselves keep the humidity where I want it. It works well in a dry environment but probably not good for a humid one.

Not sure where I saw it… can look later. Another option is to use a fan to remove ‘contaminated’ air, push through duct into the bottom of a 5gal filled with activated carbon. The air coming from top will be purified

Use a piece of pvc pipe maybe 4" put activated carbon in pantyhose and put in pvc drill holes all outside pvc seal one end and attach a exhaust fan to the other end with some duct and suck the room air thru the pvc filled with activated carbon and blow exhaust out a window! Oops almost forgot put pantyhose around pvc for prefilterIMG_20210320_131000635_BURST001|375x500

It is also possible to use a can fan and carbon filter without venting to the outside. From memory, you double the amount of air turnover to scrub in an enclosed area. So if you calculate 100 CFM with venting to the outside, just double that to 200 CFM and select an appropriatly sized carbon filter

@Upstate I have this unit, best purchase ever. Carbon filter built in, darkness, and air movement for drying.

Hmm, might have to look into one of those. I was going to hang my plants in the tent so the carbon filter can take care of it and control humidity in the tent too. I have an AC infinity with temp and humidity controlled exhaust fan.

You will be very, very happy with the results @Seamonkey84 I was shocked at how easy this thing was to set up and how well it worked.

Strong incense can help mask a lot of smell.

Also, If your friend has access to any type of chimney in the apartment (fireplace, or oven vent that goes up to roof) it may be possible to rig up a simple fan to suck air from the apartment and up into chimney. Once it is released into the air above the building it will disappear quickly.

I find the smell from drying is only really noticeable for 2-3 days. After that it is reduced a lot.

I stink up my neighborhood for about a week when I harvest too. Charcoal filters only help so much.

This stuff totally covers the smell when I’m smoking though. Smells like a pine forest
