Eagles' Nest

Flowers!

I started growing this summer. It’s hot where I live. I had issues with foxtails. I had my light too close. I overfed…anyway I’m getting over the shock and thinking about getting more aggressive with the light. Some are 24" from light. Closest probably like 18". Should I bring the light down or boost the lower ones up at least? I’m getting dense nugs on the 24" plants so why bother? Just something I’ve been pondering. I don’t want non-genetic foxtail shenanigans

I find any time after they stretch and there is a sudden change in light height that’s closer, my plants will foxtail. Now I set the light a bit higher than I need and let them grow up into it.

I have a 24 inch piece of string with a small bolt attached to keep it taught hanging from the light, so I just keep that about an inch below the cannopy so I know when to move the light up.

So your running 24" too then. Ever wonder if your cheating yourself? These are light hungry plants and I see people talking about 12" with powerful lights.

IDK if this applies in your case, but I always look at the leaves of my plants when making lighting changes. When you hit the sweet spot the leaves always pray like crazy.

I have mixed thoughts on the praying leaves. In veg I have found it to be a sign of the light being too close, but barely so, not enough to burn/stress typically.

In flower I have found they will pray when they are about dry, as if looking for rain and then sometimes for apparently no damn reason…maybe “wooo sun feels good today”? Lol

I have home made Samsung Bridgelux LEDs, I messed up my grow last year running them too close while dialing in my best height. I start at 2ft and let the plants grow up, if they don’t burn they get a bit closer, but I have light burned plants atm sitting at 24 inches sour diesel x snow lotus. The pink animal crackers x Oregon Huckleberry are good at 23 inches.

Damn, right on. Sound like some badass lights. My next light will probably be home made led, w/e is state of the art when this one dies…which should be years it’s only 8 months old.

Yeah I have mixed thoughts as well on praying. Like you I think it’s a sign of being to close, when the angle changes from horizontal to up less light is being absorbed, same reason leaves will go lighter in colour, so they have less light absorption to dark leaves. The Sour Diesel x Snow lotus has been praying since it went into flower and it’s burned up bad.

Definitely with you on that, but occasionally, I get a flower girl at a safe distance that will pray, I usually go lift that pot and it’s light…but every ONCE in awhile I just don’t know what she’s talking about lol…happens.

If you notice them doing it everyday, close to lights out, then you might be hitting their maximum Daily Light Interval.
Mr. Sparkle did a great writeup a few weeks back.

Interesting, thanks. I’ll have a look for that.

3.5 weeks on these 12. First one showing signs of sex as of last night’s check. They’ve been running 24-0 other than a long dark period once in awhile to try and get them to show quickly.

Letter arrived today thank you very much. I have put it in a plastic bag in the fridge until I can get everything sterilized to make it up :+1:

Sweet! I was wondering about that yesterday.

You’re welcome.

Balls!?
Lol just keeping theme. Not sure what I’m looking at yet. Under 30x big one looks like a weird branch with no top. Little guy looks verry ballish. I know it’ll be obvious in a few days I’m just having fun .

Race to the finish, unknown v. Pineapple express v blueberry cookies.

I did some digging in the seed jar. That little frosty one with small nugs look like it could be a “purple afghan kush?”

Mmmmm I love purple kush :yum:

My first “purple kush” was meh. Not my finest work. Most likely a combo of genetics and user error. This one looks tasty, whatever it is.
