Ec and ph meters

Could any of my fellow Aussies recommend reasonably priced ec and ph meters please?
Extra points if i dont have to break the bank too much!

I’ve used a HM pH Pen PH80 ($70-80) before and it wasn’t bad, I only got a year out of it before it gave up the ghost though and had to change battery in that year.

After that I just went and got myself a Bluelab pH pen and an EC Truncheon and never looked back. They’re a bit more exy, but going on 3 years now and both are yet to let me down. I just did a calibration check on the pH pen last week and it was still spotty dog :+1:

Don’t know where you are, but you can find some decent deals if you look around. They’re $146 for the pH pen and $168 for the truncheon direct from Bluelab but I’ve seen them cheaper elsewhere.

I just had a look and Dr Greenthumb for example, has the pH pen for $165 $132 with a discount code & the truncheon for $185 $145.60 …and @ $277.60 for both would qualify for free shipping.

I know its a bit of coin, but if you only have to buy them once it works out over time :man_shrugging:

Otherwise you can always just go oldschool and get some pH strips. It’s what worked for us in the past, before we got our hands on all these new gadgets

From UK here myself but ive had one of these about 2 years now which does both EC, PH, PPM, TEMPS & more. Works a treat and its a fair price just looking on Amazon to Aussie land. Its measures in uS/cm (1400ec) which is x 100O of mS/cm (1.4 ec) Simple enough though. Apera makes great mid level measurement gear. If you take care of them you’ll get 3-4 years out of the pH meter. The EC meter just keeps on truckin.

It’s worth buying the “3M KCL Storage Solution” unless your probe is in constant use.

Not a Bogan or close, but I can agree 110% with @Mad_Barry 's suggestion.

I meter everything and after 3 years of daily use my PH80 decided to “retire” itself I just got a replacement and am on year 2.

As normal, ive gone way over budget setting this up and i didnt even consider that i’d need to get these meters. But i think you’re right, i just need to bite the bullet rather than buying cheap and buying twice. Thanks mate

I forgot to mention it before, but I’ve also heard good reports about the milwaukee instruments pens too.

They’ve got one with a replaceable probe for under $100 as well as more a budget option for $60. Could be another option to consider :man_shrugging: .

I bought Bluelab and while I do rate the quality my first pH pen lasted 3 months (sent a replacement by Bluelab) and my Bluelab Truncheon went haywire after less than a year. I tried replacing the batteries and found it was wet inside. Anyway researching replacements I came across this Aquamaster meter, does both pH and EC for $130au but best of all the probes (which is what breaks) are replaceable.

Can take another 10% off that if you give an email addy for their newsletter, plus $6 postage makes $123 total.
