That is the dilema our staff has right now, flooding this site with new members and gaining more from traffic and clicks or acting as I mentioned to preserve the familiar original spirit.
As you say, it’s in their hands, but also in ours by trying to stop this free seeds daily rain that has attired more attention than in the previous months.
Denying it is not possible to stop this is a way to collaborate in the older guys leaving this site. I have nothing against people coming here with thirst of knowledge, but you must demonstrate more commitment with the community before gettings those genetics.
I kinda got the impression the free seeds thread is more of a general chat for the website. Most forums ive been apart of all have a big “spam or general” thread for people to just chat
I am willing to give fishes, but to people that have previously demonstrated that they know how to clean them and cook them, people I can call them by their name and that will give me also fish once they have learnt how to fish them …
Maybe it could be only giveaway what you grow? . Messes some of big giveaways up but puts the emphasis back on grow threads and initially forces seed sharks to discover the quality threads on the forum
I have been reading bits and pieces of this thread when I can, everyone is talking about the new people that show up expecting free seeds.
A lot of people lately have been making their very first post “looking for seeds” with zero interaction with any members, no journals, no nothing.
The ones that show up expecting free seeds are the ones being discussed.
Being a part of an auction is actively taking part in the community, nothing wrong with that at all
Nothing wrong with giving away seeds either, just the showing up with hands out is a little worrisome
About Likes. I felt the same way. I would leave the site because I ran out of likes until I got more. I would read a lot and I would read something I really liked and didn’t have none to give.
This is true. Like would mean nothing If we had an endless supply of them.
This whole situation is a double edge sword. Sharing with each other is what makes OG go great. But It’s beginning to not mean anything.
I am not looking for exclusivity, I believe there are new members that have einriched this community with his presence, I am just asking to take the honeypot away from the general public so they would like to join just for the OG spirit that makes us different from the rest of communities: expert people that take their time to help and encourage new growers with their knowledge and know how …
I’ve joined many seedruns with the sole purpose of having seeds to give away having seen some OG members doing it seemingly daily.
To me, the free seeds part made this group different from places like reddit, full of gatekeeping and toxicity. Giving away instead of hawking $300 cuts and $500 packs for profit.
I love that about this place and hope it doesn’t stop.
If it does, I’m sure going to have a whole lot of seeds I won’t know what to do with.
