I am seeing problems as well, you will notice I have way less posts. When i actually start growing again there will be no posts about it maybe some pm’s. And i wont be testing anything. I came from the time when you didnt talk, and if you did it was only with people you knew well and trusted. Seems to me theres a lot of posts echoing what the antis and the gov would say.
It’s not about singling anybody out it’s a discussion about what we want our site to look like (I think so anyway).
Do we want a moocher fest? Probably not.
Do we want secret pay to play runs? Probably not.
I guess one is a natural reaction to the other though.
I think @ReikoX might be onto something with the no $ being allowed to change hands unless…

I posted this elsewhere yesterday but if you even have the mindset to feel guilty or deliberately keep yourself in check you’re most likely not the problem.
Go through some random newb’s post history and within a few you’ll find the problems. It’s not just newbs but it’s easier to see with them. You can tell who’s only commenting when seeds are involved, who’s throwing around just enough fluff comments to make it look like they’re not just here for seeds, and who’s actually engaged in the community. A grow journal is a big plus because it’s engagement with the community but I wouldn’t even say a grow journal is the qualifier. The people who are the problem aren’t going to feel guilty or even wonder if they’ve taken too much. They most likely aren’t even in this thread,
Well, the idea that you can do a paid group run if your a sponsor. That’d still be self monetization in a way, right? You end up with a strain you want and herb, you just have to send out the seeds you made.
And I’ve completely put together that type of a run, so I am guilty of it. I would gladly pop to sponsor if that is what was needed to organize runs like that though.
It was only a 3.50 buy in and then pay your own shipping, so I didn’t make any money off of it, or herb. But I’m getting seeds, and so is everyone else that paid in, and we all got a grow log.
oh 100%, you don’t NEED to have a journal here. That was just a blanket statement. There’s plenty of other ways to contribute. I check everyone’s history before I do any trading. Its super easy to see who actually contributes and who doesn’t.
Again, if you sit in the trading post or smoker’s lounge all day, you shouldn’t ever even get to TL2.
Hahaha! Oh no. Not this guy. But it dose seem this could be some kind of behavior that I can see happening here recently.
When I first started here It was a big no no to ask for seed for nothing in return. I did once. But only on a front because I was down and out. He was paid nicely and got seeds in return.
sounds like you have a price for your free seeds.
Damn straight! The price is being a true OG member. Being apart of the community and not leeching of it. I feel what your saying @Eagles009
@Chronickyle Joe moved this to its own thread. You just brought some things up that should be discussed.
If you sit in the smokers lounge or trading post all day, you shouldn’t ever get to TL2.
I second this.
Yeah the feed back thread is a little difficult to get into. It should be easier. Maybe if there was some way to make a tally and it be around the Members title? I’m not to tech savvy.
Again, if you sit in the trading post or smoker’s lounge all day, you shouldn’t ever even get to TL2.
yes, agreed, those posts shouldn’t count towards rep here or be able to be liked, otherwise it’s just a bunch of seed leeches patting each other on the back filling up the place and the reputation system will be worthless
Sponsor is different. Now you’re paying to keep the site up.
Either way, paid seed-runs seem antithesis to what the site is made to do. Overgrow the world.
Otherwise, I got plenty of rare packs, who wants to pay me to run them and make seeds?
Does that not seem douchy to you?

that was something that came up when they were trying to help the server with costs and over runs were going to the growers in a coop Don’t think that ever even got past one round.
edit-may have that backwards. grower contribution and then overrun to server. but I have quit those threads.
Well it’s not like that. Or at least not the ones I’ve seen. It’s, let’s buy this pack together, 1 person grows and open pollinates and we all get an even share of seeds, grower usually gets some extras. I agree saying pay me to run what’s in my vault is not cool.

sponsorship shouldn’t buy reputation, tossing money at @LemonadeJoe for the right to be able to monetize their seed business and buy reputation is payola

but its essentially the same thing, no? the only difference is, dude doesn’t start with the pack in his vault.
Remove all money and this goes away. Either you wanna give the seeds away or you don’t. its pretty simple… if shipping cost is an issue, talk to a distributor like sebring.
“I’ve got a friend who has some seeds and he might let me get them if I can get a group buy together”
his friend’s name is Frigidaire
But dudes directly profiting that way. I agree it’s splitting hairs and can see your perspective too.
If I have something in my vault and someone’s willing to make a fresh round of seeds from it, I’m donating and not asking for cash.
Yeah you shouldn’t be able to buy reputation. It needs to be earned.
well imo it should be one for trade feedback, and completely a different category for breeder feedback. and we should point out the distinction
I joined OG initially because I was tired of using social media, it’s just ads and spam. At the same time I needed a place where I could document my grows. I loved it here because of the wealth of knowledge and because of the community, everyone was nice respectful. I also love to follow grow diaries and look at beautiful pictures. I totally understand the feelings of older OGers, I wouldn’t like it either if the place I like is bombarded by people begging for seeds. Still being new to growing I didn’t realize that it didn’t make sense to hoard seeds that I won’t have time to grow. I have a lot of respect for everyone, especially those that have been here a long time, you guys made this forum what it is. Every morning I wake up I’m happy to see new notifications in my account. It wouldn’t be the same if OGs like @Chronickyle start to dislike the environment here and think about leaving. I have been feeling like garbage the past days. I want to help restore the things I’ve contributed to damage or even offer help in general, if there is anything I can do please let me know.
If I’m not out of line, I’d like to suggest periodical giveaways (just like the one @anon93244739 organized, where everyone that wants to donate can) and to receive seeds you have to be TL2 ou TL3 and above, (you can also add extra requirements to filter even more) this might make it harder for those with bad intentions…

I agree pretty much every thing I’ve acquired is available to the right person if there willing to send me some fresh seed back .
It’s disheartening when you send the remainder of a strain and never hear back from the recipient.
I’m also ok with a strain I have no interest in growing getting into the hands of someone that’s been hunting and has had no luck at finding it.

I’ve sent out tons that fell into that category, with no recompense needed.
Yeah I m all for trading. I have like 200 JOTI seeds that I want to diversify with. misterbee was kind enough to make a trade with me.
Still trying to trade. looks around after my shameless plug
I hate being needy and looking for handouts.
