Environment here changed

I guess I really don’t know how I feel about this. If the situation is right, I wouldn’t mind paying you to run your own rare seeds if
I wanted a share of the seeds. You should get credit for your seeds (and willingness to share them) and your growing skills.
Hmmmm…

Well said. When I first got here it was all about helping people. If you wanted something you had to interact with people other than asking for stuff. I had problems whack I started and lost everything. I didn’t have to ask for anything, it was offered. What was given to me kept me from throwing in the towel. That kindness compelled me to do a seed run and give back. Now those kinds of runs are gone because of the freakers faction. Can’t be a part of it unless you guarantee multiple runs. Instead of hey I’ve got these I’m gonna reproduce yall can have the extras. What happened to that spirit? Seems like greed has taken hold here. No one wants to give anything unless they get something out of it anymore. Happens every time.

Yes! What Pigeonman said!

I think this forum needs to be flushed, just pHed water (no nutes) until the salts accumulated go away ejem|nullxnull. In many cities it is forbidden to feed the pigeons because they shit all around. We just need to stop some vicious practices lately aquired, how many new members are necessary to cover the loss of a legacy one? :sunglasses:

I said I didn’t think I should have been able to accomplish Regular status 2x over since joining in the thread about TL because of the sentiment in this thread. I am a new guy, but I feel like I caught the ass end of the previous version of this site on my way in, and haven’t really cared for some of the changes I see happening. I would gladly give up my status, and focus on my grow logs and talking to those who stop by with advice and questions. While I won’t claim to have the end all answer here, it is my opinion that status should be harder to obtain. It’s a very complex system to think over, so I don’t want to discount the difficulty of the decisions of those in charge.

Well this was a long read with many perspectives, nice to see open discussion. I will chime in for what it’s worth.

Free seeds. I like to give out seeds. It’s fun and allows the spread of strains all over the world. I dont have a problem with that. I do however have an issue with those who just come for free seeds. The thing is that those folks are easily identified. I see it all the time where someone’s first post is asking for free seeds. I find this shows a definite lack of character and also that this is not necessarily a person I want to deal with. Now many of those people grab free stuff and dissapear so I think they are more of a minor annoyance than a real problem.

Chatting in the free seeds thread. I do see that the free seeds thread is kind of a water cooler chat place. I think that kind of goes hand in hand with the giving of seeds. Would be strange to just show up, take a list of people who want seeds and leave. Might just be me but that seems a bit cold and inpersonal. I see people complain about so many notifications and alway wonder why they dont mute the thread and just go to it when the feel like it. Than they can read what they want without the notifications.

Monetizing activities. Now that’s a bit of a scary thing. I kind of like the idea of a group getting together to buy expensive seeds and reproduce them for members here. Some seed prices are ridiculous and it is a way to get those generics to many who would never be able to afford them. I dont see becoming a sponsor as a fix since than all you are doing is paying the site as well so not really a fix. Feels like that just makes OG a financial partner to such transactions which could be dangerous. While these runs definitely have their advantages there is money changing hands and also the risk things will go sideways. For the safety of the site and users I would have no issues with these not being allowed going forward. Whenever money becomes involved it opens to door to scrutiny and possibly brings the wrong attention from the wrong people. Money changing hands usually means the government wants their cut. If they notice such things OG could end up in trouble so in the end it doesnt feel worth it. Why risk such things? Let’s not forget what happened to OG v1

Anyway just a few points I thought I would make. Have a great day everyone

But we offer seeds to those in need by thread and pm all the time.

But it has Joe!

But they aren’t and some, I think because this it is being talked about out in the open, are just going to threads and posting BS replies.

The same people would never read this, They don’t even read your welcome and recommendations thread or just ignore guidelines. That is my pet pev.

good idea

Agree and me too  One guy I gave a like to a thread just asking for shipping. :smirk: Guess who didn’t post.

Private not secrete  I felt honored to be included. But they went simi public when everybody invited everybody else.

I tried! Talked right over

Because they don’t want to miss the next give away,

Old and didn’t even figure that out. Other OG’rs wanted to do a contest planning there and I gave up.

First thank you for the effort you have been doing lately to stem some of this.
Second they don’t know better because they can’t be bothered to read Joes welcome and the links.

yes and yes. I read a lot here and they share this

Thank You all for thought and input here and giving me a place to vent. I guess I have just gotten jaded the last month or two instead of felling the love and relaxation here. I just need to learn more and get help so here I stay,

I try to send seeds to pretty much anyone that asks if I offer them. I hope I am not part of your problem with the site. Most seeds bought probably never get grown either. People are hoarders. But I’m willing to risk my seeds ending up in a vault of some Chad if that what it takes to get the new person, or someone who can’t afford to buy seed, who will grow them something worth growing.

I am more concerned with trolls that sidetrack threads with unrelated content or contentious politics just to troll. But trolls remind me of the way Overgrow always was… as pioneer in social media OG trolls were harbingers of the shitty things people do online.

I still don’t get all pissing, moaning and whining about giving away seeds…
I do agree, it is looked down upon, for some newbie to the forum to just come out and blatenly ask for seeds. In saying that, some people don’t have the extra cash to get good genetics…
It’s starting to almost look like several of the people whining about this are pissed off they have some competition to get seeds now, instead of just being able to get every seed put out there on OG.
I know there’s some older members here that probably got EVERY seed from EVERY run done on OG hoarded away.
I also get the feeling people are pissed about this, because they’re having a harder time to sell their beans, as there’s so many free seeds around.
Which I also kinda get, but…as far I saw since I 1st joined, this site was about SHARING and NOT profit.
When I 1st joined here and was getting back into growing, I had fuck all left of my previous collection as the cops confiscated them.
So some VERY awesome members @Barefrog @Mr.Sparkle @RiekoX, @Mongobongo @Pedro_Bann just to name a few hooked me up and away I went, people got to know me and I started joining in on the seed runs, and before I knew it, I had more seeds than I knew what to do with, or could ever grow.
So I like to return the kindness that was shown to me when I had absolutely fuck all for genetics, by giving away seeds, auctions and lotteries.

If that puckers your ass…well…that’s on you
If I want to give away seeds I will…simple as that

I haven’t read all the way thru yet but I don’t get that from the ones I did read.
I too was OFFERED seeds from them and others. I never ASKED.
When I came back after a hard time I again was OFFERED seeds I again didn’t ASK. That said there are some guys that if the asked I would and fell honored.
Was there even a free seed thread than?
JMHO

If I meet someone in person or online and I get a greasy vibe I send them to RIU for ‘freebies’ or advise.
If I sense they just need some help or truly want to learn from a great community I suggest here. I don’t bring up OG around certain people.

I saw when you came back, I was new and shared what I had. I felt like you were roughly where I was, limited genetics. So I sent you stuff, now I consider you a friend after much interaction.

Hahaha I love it.

When I got here, I had 1 strain. I didn’t wanna take anything for free, so I offered trades. In these trades I got more and more . Awesome.
Then started journals, chatting, getting to know people and as soon as I could I gave back to the community as much & as quickly as possible :upside_down_face:

OG is my only online footprint & its because of the kind people, knowledge & advice, grow logs & photos. Love 90% of the topics here and 99.9% of the people here.

Free seeds are cool, sure. But sharing makes better relationships :person_shrugging: even tho we are all online being keyboard warriors :unamused:

Anyways, Love OG & OG’ERS & I’ll continue to operate how I see fit. I really hope the Orginal members & people I’ve chatted with keep doing their own thing, so we all can enjoy some awesome threads, content and have a laugh or two.

Ps. @LemonadeJoe he’s a cool dude & honestly let’s us all run loose like some crazy kids in a farmer field tipping cows… He doesn’t say much, but when he does, I dam well listen :ok_hand: If it wasn’t for him non of us would have OG at all.

Much respect for you Joe.
