Environment here changed

It’s the user’s who make a website great. Not the website it self. Doesn’t matter if your the best mod in the world… It’s the user’s that sustain a site. No one came here cuz they heard the mods were good (not saying their not), they came here cause of the people. If someone doesn’t like something they shouldn’t participate. I’ve heard many of you say this exact thing. Hence what I’m trying to do with my journal.

I am not disagreeing.

I also understand that I have probably abused giveaways.

I’ve also supported (spent money at) every auction and have opened my wallet for every seed run I can be part of.

I’ve also given out seeds, every one of which i either bought or received elsewhere from og.

I’m trying to understand if I’m part of the problem, and if so what I need to do to change it.

I wasn’t coming at you personally, there’s just alot of shit talk going on in other threads about the auctions and giveaways, this just happens to be the thread its actually being discussed on.
You have some valid points and can see your perspective on them.
I followed your journal and you gave out lots of seed on there.
Just letting you know I’m not coming at you personally, but letting my opinion be heard to the ones that are doing all the griping and negative comments about the situation.
I totally agree, that it’s not cool for someone just to be here, grab seeds and bolt, or just to be here for only free seed.

I’m a newer member here, and I as well am striving to not be a part of the problem. I don’t want to take up too much space other than to say that I hope that this unique place can survive these stormy waters. I found OG as I was becoming more interested in breeding and have learned a ton from the wealth of info contained w/in this forum. I hope that the older Generations of OG’s will choose to stick around and help guide the way forward.

Also just want to give props to people for speaking up and airing their grievances so that the problems, hopefully, can get sorted out, and solutions found.

I wasn’t trying to call you out by any means, just trying to answer your question! I didn’t mean to say anything towards you personally. But on the same vein, I also feel slightly guilty jumping on some of these strains because it means other people aren’t getting them (right now), but I have bought seeds and given away seeds too. I know I’m not being greedy and jumping on every available pack or trying to scam anyone, and I’m trying my best to give back. But I haven’t taken anything someone hasn’t offered, and I’m also really new to all of this and am still learning tons, and I have bigger plans when my means allow. I really, really care about this place, and want to be a part of it.

Guessing I am on this list. Meant no harm. Participated in auction and won. My bad. I’ve been on other sites for 3 years and just found this one. Guess I shouldn’t participated in auction. I will stop

As long as you’re active in the community, no need to stop

Buying tickets to auction giveaways means you’re positively involved IMO.

No reason to stop.

You buy a ticket you have as much right to win as anyone else

You’ve been making the effort to be involved, stick around

I was referencing members whom start an account the day of an auction then dissappear. You just happened to have come here for the auctions I was making accusations that some of those accounts are fakes. Clearly your not and just wanted to participate in the auction. That’s fine. Difference in a user up bidding to increase prices to get a higher auction total then a person trying to win you being the ladder (trying to win). I have no problem with that. Also I’m just some nobody as well I’m no mod here you got no reason to listen to what I say. Just do what feels right brother.

I’ll quickly state my “solution” to the situation at hand.
Leave it up to the author of the thread in which said giveaway is set up. But put the trust levels to work.
“Join in my giveaway! Trust level ______ welcome to bid or dibs! Everyone else, welcome to the show have fun and join the conversation!”.

That’s just how I would approach the subject.
Just an old hillbilly’s pondering.

With legalization places like this are going to explode in popularity and membership.

If some want this place to be an “exclusive old boys club”, I’m sorry you’re SOL. That horse has left the barn.

With an increase in members, there’s always going to be an increase in the number of people just here for the freebies.

I agree with trying to limit it to just the one thread, but disagree with the idea of putting that behind some kind of wall.

No one forces anyone here onto the “free seeds and clones thread”.

I thought tying my giveaway yesterday to making artwork was kinda fun, even if only a few got involved. I have similar plans for the next.

Maybe it’s as simple as finding a new way to do things?

Quality over quantity

Edit. Don’t wanna be the next RIU

Agreed

Sorry I don’t do live updates
It’s just security concerns mostly when I post a grow its past tense. Dont need added concerns I do share live updates with close friends here but not general public.

Most of us are from an era of risk so we dont share all but contribute. We all just have to choose our clicks yet come together as community.

The private buys aren’t perfect either but we getting results all are welcome once you show commitment to the site.

Some are against it but I feel more comfortable being legal now to help.

Welcome to OG we collectively make it what it is… or we leave. But everywhere else is controlled by seed sellers. So far OG isn’t a sell out open forums.

I’m a casual user of this site. I contribute when I can, but I’m mostly here to learn from the folks that have been doing this longer than me.

I think if someone accepts seeds from someone else on this site for free, they should have to donate $5 to the website as a facilitator fee.

Totally agree with that. Although I’m a newbie in growing I’ve been visiting this site almost daily since January. I could have opted for a few available courses which would allow me to get support and and be assisted by more experienced growers. Instead, most likely by pride, arrogance and a lifelong DIY mentality throughout my life, I chose to learn by doing and spent what I had by building my own grow room.

For a while I kept feeding my own journal, went through the constant paranoia of being followed and or tracked, was able to purchase some decent strain initially and since then I have been given, offered seed from what I call them my teachers, you being one of them @Chronickyle, and have won a number of dibbing wars round here lol!

Can’t really say how I see or notice in what way this environment has changed but I’d like to affirm that, had there not been the amazing companionship, camaraderie, and literally experienced expertise help and feedback from members such as you, I would never have stayed here. The warm welcome I have always been received here says it all, not the free seeds, not the opportunities to get the dankest strain ever, nothing comes close to your kind and generous sharing of knowledge and life experience.

We could spot the seed hunters and predators by a mile, the honest people who aren’t looking for a quick fix and get the hell out, these people will never want someone as honorable and committed as you leave, it would mean our loss, and I mean it!

I never had a number of seeds, don’t even know enough to say I can grow, let alone giving a go at breeding. And not by accident, I’ve already come across so much quality, have begun growing serious strains literally as a result of someone’s Ogenerosity here, I’d like to agree with you and humbly say, this site without the likes of people like you and the rest of amazing souls round here, we wouldn’t even keep this conversation for a second!!

I’ve never stopped learning here, love the dibs war and mean no harm or predation, have been going through serious financial difficulty lately, was able to donate 10 bucks here through the help of a member who could pay via his paypal account (I do not own a credit card), yet every seed I receive as gift from here, I take it as gold, it is seriously valuable to me because I know I’ve hit a note somewhere, beyond any $ value, and my deep respect and admiration for all that growers on here, it is to the people I keep learning and feel welcome! Needless to say, you are one of them!! :hugs:

But then “certain people” will claim thats not “inclusive” enough, cause entitled ppl want their participation ribbon… if they don’t get it they’ll complain the next day about how unfair it was… because they didn’t win

Those old boys you mention are the columns that sustain this forum with their knowledge, expertise and help. They aren’t “exclusive” as you say as they are the first to help the noobs, solve their problems and give them tips and seeds. If you frighten them out this forum will become another RIU or whatever, you have not been here long enough to understand what was the spirit of this site and how has lately changed.

We wouldn’t be here discussing how to remedy this if we thought as you that “the horse has left the barn”. I was told when a barn is on fire the cows doesn’t abandon it even if the door is open, I am not a cow …

The more members this website gets, the more money the website owners get from traffic through the website ads.

It is in their best interests to increase membership.

This is reality.

I’m not arguing with you saying this “new” og can’t be improved, but the exclusivity and smallness once felt is gone, simply due to the explosion of new growers due to legalization and their thirst for knowledge and genetics.

and if I’m personally doing anything to frighten anyone away, please tell me?
