Fasting for Health … would that be a good topic?

I really believe it’s a good idea once a year maybe. Or more if overweight. Not judging just speaking metabolic health. I don’t know I have been smoking today. Some science on autophagy. I think the body knows what to do given a chance

Do you practice Islam? Honestly, fasting sounds pretty interesting to me, and I entertain the idea just a little bit when Ramadan rolls around every year. My boss and a couple of coworkers practice Islam and they talk about how good it is for you and such, but honestly I don’t know if it’s a good idea.

I’ve mostly never done it because I don’t think I would be able to exercise how I like to while fasting.

I do believe fasting is in Christianity also

Is that so? I know about Lent, but I’ve never heard of Christians full-on fasting.

LOL in a sense yeah, but juggling waking up before sunrise to eat your first meal and working a job, etc. is rough at the very least.

Plus, no water.

Ramadan just ended, and where I’m at in the world, the sun is up for over 13 hours a day already. That’s fucking tough, in my opinion.

I just looked it up an fasting was removed :disappointed: it’s definitely in Christianity also

Far as religion goes I believe they all call for it?

Don’t mean politics

I fast everyday between 5:30 pm and 8:30 am.

Really what I do is try to eat small portions rather than not eat entirely. I might eat 5 meals a day but they’d be very small.

That could be. I’m not very familiar with religious texts. Honestly, I probably know more about the Quran than the Bible, and I was raised Christian. :joy:

I try and do the same thing. Not the fasting, but the meal spacing. I try and get around 20-30 grams of protein in, as evenly distributed as I can throughout four or five meals. Carbs and fats vary depending on what I’m gonna be doing in the immediate future.

I also try to avoid eating too close to bedtime or too soon after waking up. Usually about a two hour buffer in between or so.

I have done an intermittent fast ( 16 hours fast - 8 hours feeding time ) for at least 30 years. I am completely adapted to it and only get hungry right before it is time to eat. I feel great. I am 58 years old but weigh the same as I did in high school with more muscle. Honestly, people say I look like I’m 30. I have old injuries from living but no medical problems and I don’t take any medication. I feel like I am still 18 and have outlived all of my old friends. Also, my testosterone and other hormones are still high and all my junk still works.

My idea of an acceptable serving of carbs is much smaller than what I tend to see.

Like @Foreigner , I don’t “fast,” with any real structure, but I mostly go without eating big meals all at once. I try to stay hydrated a little more heavily to make up the difference.

Same here. Before bed during the work week gets tricky, though. I’ve looked into intermittent fasting a bit, and, like a dry-back on our plants, it seems like a sound enough technique if it works for you.

I’ve taken up intermittent fasting in the last year or so. It has helped with eating control and thus weight loss. Snacking for 16 hours a day is worse for my body than eating the same amount in meals in 8 hours. Need some time with an empty stomach.

Not too long ago a video told of an example of fasting in the animal world that many of us have witnessed. When a dog gets sick it often stops eating. It is using fasting as part of the healing process. That wouldn’t be effective if it was unhealthy.

Since Christ accepted the ultimate offer i doubt there is any fasting needed. Furthermore i think it is questionable that fasting is even very healthy, because fasting may trigger constipation. Temperance is better than fasting i think.
