First Grow, 2nd attempt

My equipment will initially include a T5, 4 bulb 2x4, a warming mat, paper cups, potting soil mixed with perlite. The bottom third of the cups have 100% perlite, the top section is a 85%15% mix of soil and perlite. The seeds soaked in water for 2 days, then went into a paper towel and a plastic sandwich bag. Today, the seeds went into the paper cups. The paper cups are under a plastic dome. The light is set to be on 18 hours, and the heating mat will kick on when the light goes off (its a bit chilly in the house during the night). Lighting will change after first transplant to a Philips 315 w 4200k bulb for veg, and a 3100k for flower.
There are 12 seeds representing Warhammer x Buckeye Strawberry OG; and 5 seeds of West Coast Dawg and Buckeye Strawberry; both are hybrid 50/50ish indica/sativa, 8-10 week flower cycle.
My first attempt began 3 weeks ago. I used a tray with plugs and kept everything warm and damp. I did not have a single viable seed pop in my first attempt. All seeds, in first and second attempt were given to me, so I am at least getting a chance to put what I am learning into practice. I am hoping to get 4 females out of this grow.
An important goal of mine is to keep the grow as organic as I can. I am using Boogie Brew for much of my soil amendments. I have not decided whether to go coco or soil when I do the first transplant. I plan to add worm castings/azomite/SEA minerals, Mycorrhizae, and Frass (insect droppings) to the medium at the get go. The Boogie Brew compost tea will be used for watering 1-2 times per week. During veg, I will foliate spray a protein solution once per week. Trace minerals will be lightly added every 2 weeks during veg stage also. A week prior to the flip, a phosphorus load will be added for bloom production. Overgrow, Boogie Brew, and youtube’s Mr. Canucks, and Mr. Bog have heavily influenced my decision making process in this planning process.

I know a common mistake is to water too much during the seedling stage. The soil was bone dry when I mixed it with the perlite. I added water immediately after putting the seeds into the cups. I appreciate advice on a watering schedule. Thanks in advance.
I chose not to add amendments at this point to avoid possible burn. Now I am wondering if that is wise. I plan to lightly top dress the soil after the seedlings appear. Bit of a learning curve, right?!

Slightly a learning curve yes…so far it sounds good, I wouldn’t give them any feed til their first set of true leaves pop and that will probably be when you’ll have to water again too…

When you topdress, it’s easier to add amendments to the top and use a tea of 2x the topdress amount to jump start the biology into the soil mix

Those should have plenty of nutrients for the first few sets of leaves. Amend before the next transplant and transplant into that stronger soil.

thanks for your input. I am not sure what it means to use a tea 2x the topdress amount. Could you tell me more about that?

Say your toodress amount is 3tsp of it per 5gal of soil… you can soak double that in a cheese cloth or similar in a water and mix it around and let sit overnight and get the biology in it jumpstarted so when you water your topdressing it will already be starting to break it down

Well Water Warning!!! This is my 2nd attempt at my first grow. My first batch of seeds didn’t produce a single pop. I am now 8 days into germination of my second set of seeds, and have yet to see anything popping through the soil. Yesterday, I stopped in at my local horticulture grow store, get talking, and the guy says problem must be metals in my well water. He said the parts per million of metals in well water are usually way too much for a seed or seedling and will kill them. Good to know. I have grown a garden using the same water for the past 14 years without a problem. I thought my water was good to go cuz it doesn’t have any chlorine. Live and learn.
I am going to keep the current grow going for a few days more in the hope that I get a spout or two.
