First grow, time to transplant? Pictures included

Hello,

This is my first post, been reading for a couple of months and have collected loads of information, thanks to everybody that posts I have learned a lot.

I have read the FAQs but I’m still unsure about proper timing I’ve also searched for information about when to transplant and what is root bound but only found posts about sick plants and I don’t want to let mine get to that point.

I germinated 5 seeds, 1 wont grow and I killed 1 by dropping the propagator lid on it when it was a couple of days old, I’ve germinated another seed because I have space for 4 plants, as it’s a week behind I may experiment with topping early.

My seedlings germinated in jiffy pellets 1 week after they were planted. They spent the first week in a propagator under an 8w t5 and a couple of cheapo 5w 6500k GU10 LED lights. They were then planted into 4" square pots with Biobizz light mix burying the stems up to the first leaves and put under 12 x 2ft 18w T8 flourescents, 3 sylvania growlux 8500k(the red and 2 purple tubes in the photos) 4 new 4000k and 5 old 3500k.

They are now 16 days old and I think it may be time to transplant, could someone please take a look and let me know what they think. when transplanting, which is better, a little to early or a little too late?

Thank you in advance for any help.

It appears to be that time. See how the roots are starting to swirl in the bottom areas? If left unchecked they will swirl and choke themselves out.

A little early is better imo.

Haha, I really like the color effect the bulbs make the camera have. Almost like a rainbow!

Tell us a little about your tube setup there?

That’s quite the rainbow you have there. Very pretty.

In the Veg stage, I re-pot every 14 days. It keeps them growing nicely.

If you ever reach a point where growth has stopped and the leaves start to lose green, re-pot immediately!

Edit: added more to post.

Thanks for all the repies.

The light is 12 18w 2’ T8 tubes with 6 36w magnetic ballasts. I stripped down 3 2’ x 2’ suspended ceiling light fittings and bodged it all together, its not the prettiest but it was cheap and quick the make. I have enough parts to make a 12 tube 4’ light fitting which gives more than twice the lumens and the tubes only cost a little more. I’ll build that to flower under then I can start vegging the next lot under the 2’ tubes.

The grow area is in the corner of my shed at the end of a row of shelves, I got quite a to do list,

Doors/light proof
Insulation
Air circulation
Ventilation
Odour control
Sort the electrics before it burns down, got a DIN rail and a contactor for the lights just need a better quality timer and a box to mount it all in.

In person the tubes all look white apart from the 3 grolux tubes which are slightly purple.
