In the past I’ve dabbed in cloning on a few varieties of plants. Rooting powder in potting soil vs coconut coir, air layering, using 9oz cups placed in 16 oz with 16oz dome. Have not used aeroponics exc. I was leaving my friends house and he gave me 36 snips to start off 8 mothers (he’s hasnt the best luck in past and I offered to F his shit up for him ) I have some garbage rooting powder from meijer n he couldn’t find his bottle of Clonex, should be here Saturday from Amazon….
I decided to give rockwool cubes + dome a try. Not going to use heating pad. I have choice of throwing them in my 4x4 tent running a HLG 600 rspec on 30% for 17/7, regular room with my $20 Walmart light, or setting up my 2x2 tent with the $20 Walmart light. I decided on 2x2 because I need to set it up eventually….
I have 4 snips of the following
Clackamas Coots “The One”
Mimosa (pheno hunted
Clackamas Coots “The Other one”
Star Pupil (pheno hunted)
His neighbors Star pupil mystery hybrid. (Was seed from a Star pupil that could have been pollinated by anything)
1977 Burma cut
CPR (Clackamas coots private reserve)
Purple Unicorn x (Larry OG x Gary Payton)
Il post some pics of mothers n ones previous grown.
My plan is to take 2 of each cutting and place in aloe plant and the other 2 in water for a day and a half, then when clonex arrives put them in the dome and run 18/6. If I hit 90% success il be a very happy camper. If I kill them all ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Il try again.
Here’s my snipes, I normally use a razor and cut diagonally little after a node, my friend sterilized some sharp scissors and cut flat, we went to switch (I cut n he sorts) and I was so fucking high I said a few words in a sentence back words and just started laughing. Needless to say we both laughed and switched back. I’m not worried about how they are cut, if anything take slightly longer, and I won’t want to cut end with it already being cut, I’ve seen in the past it’s fragile and even with super sharp shit I’ve had them smush on me n not cut small half n end. I’ve hear great things about rockwool, super easy plus dip n grow, should go smooth.
Went to set up 2x2 and can’t find one pole so set it up this way and il look for the pole tomorrow and this dome will stay like this til Saturday when dip n grow comes. 2/4 each cuts in aloe, but they will not be staying in there only til Saturday. I made sure to dot my T’s and cross my eyes took a picture of each snipe, top and bottom then spot in went in and if it’s in aloe or water (for personal observations) and numbered tray and paper accordingly for the most part… maybe one will like cheap beer
to get the humidity as high as possible with domes or a propagator so that the cut isn’t trying to constantly suck up more water to replace what it’s lost through its leaves. If the humidity is at 100% it can put all is effort into growing roots.
Get a striped node into the medium. By this I mean, make the cut just past a node and then strip that branch off and make sure that part is buried in wet medium. The hormones are concentrated at the nodes and this is where root bumps will first form.
Best mediums I have found are saturated perlite, Coco or just straight water.
Dip n Grow didn’t come from Amazon n delayed til tomorrow. No worries… some snips staring drooping because I left them in the aloe so I switched them to water, also moved to my 4x4 tent and left both doors a quarter open, right now I have a HLG 600Rspec running at 40% power approx 32” above seedlings I got in there. Temp n humidity with around 78 degrees and 52% humidity. There will prob be some fallen soldiers this time around but we shall see. I recently finished a comparison of 12 clones in coca coir and 12 clones in sunshine mix aggregate plus (basic soil from Menards) I used a method with clear 9oz cups inside 16oz cups with 16oz cups as domes as well. The results were opposite of what I thought. The coca didn’t take well, and almost every one in soil filled cup with roots within 10 days. I tried to be as fair as I could, matching snips that looked very similar then doing one in each.
Amazon comes late in the day to my house normally but hopefully the girls will be in rockwool tomorrow
It’s been about 14 days since I dipped these snips in Dip n Grow and put in rockwool, they got moved in 4x4 tent with humidity around 58-64 and dome kept over them for majority of time so far.
Here’s an update of what they are looking like, certain strains seemed to handle mild abuse better than others. Overall so far so good on success rate, but I’m not counting my chickens before they hatch
Oh also that clusterfuck of a BINGO chart was dumb as hell I ended up just numbering the rows with a sharpie on the actual tray, then writing down what strain was in which row, and a few got 2 rows. Idk what I was thinking when I made that Bingo chart lmao
I get a 98% success with rockwool clones, always used them, the only thing to look out for is stem rot through not opening the lid ir vents soon enough to let air in, rooting stuff on the stem above the cube surface contributes to this.
