First time grower - Bodhi seeds

First time growing weed, went with bodhi seeds and plan on running dwc. Going to be needing all the advice I can get

The setup

4x4 tent
600w ChillLed light
Rapid rooters with 4 inch net pot
4x 12 gallon reservoirs with 50ppm tap water, GH flora Silica and calmag
Great white beneficial bacteria

I started with the light raised all the way up at 50% and the net pots on the floor but the seedlings started to stretch. Now have them about 20 inches from the light hoping they stop stretching

This picture is from day 2

Is that Mexican Death Sativa?

I’m of no help on DWC, sounds like jumping in at the deep end to me, but I hope it works out well for you! You wouldn’t be the first first-time grower to make me consider hanging up my growing gloves.

Day 3 a couple of them are turning yellow from the middle out. Any suggestions?

I think I screwed up. I filled up a reservoir to let some water dechlorinate and my water temps are getting way too high at 82. My tests in the beginning kept the water below 68 but I guess the light really is giving off that much heat. I would like to avoid rdwc and a chiller as I’d like to grow multiple strains and I don’t want to make a compromise on either plant with nutes. I am considering switching to coco or soil if possible. Anyone have recommendations for a mix?

Here’s my soil mix:

40% washed & buffered coco
30% earth worm casting
20% perlite
Remaining filled with Neem cake, mustard seed meal cake, myco and composted manure.

You can add some rock dust to the mix too.

Mix them up, water lightly and let the mix sit covered for 2 weeks at least.

During the grow, I feed PH’d tap water (6.3 ~ 6.5). I don’t check ph, ec or ppm. Just water with occasional inputs & top dressing.

DWC is a bit too hands on & high maintenance for my taste.

My suggestion is to revisit dwc when fall rolls around.
Hot water and ph swings are the biggest buggaboos for water culture. If the res. gets above 73° or so you can have problems. Even with adequate aeration.
If the “neat-o” aspect of dwc still has allure you might consider a method that maintains most of the water volume in an area that is not under the light. Flood and drain type setups can be like that.

Looks like you’ve really done your research and started with great beans and good equipment! Best of luck to you. This place is a fantastic resource.

How much cal mag do you use when buffering the coco? I plan of putting them into a 3 gallon fabric pot.

I want to do a 70% foxfarms coco 30% perlite for my mix. Also considering sticking to my liquid nutes as I heard its all the same once it gets to the plant anyways. Is this a bad idea for any reason?

Hoping I can do it asap, I don’t want the roots to get through the net pot and make it hard to plant in the coco

Hoping I can try dwc one day. If I can keep temps under 74 I think beneficials can deal with that but 82 is a hot tub for dwc.

I did sterile reservoir. I hated the idea at first but i think its the way id go again. Beneficial microbes didnt work for me as well.

I use calcium nitrate. Roughly 3 grams per liter of water. I’ve never run liquid nutes as the constant measuring is a hassle in my opinion. It’s also easy to burn the plants with them if you are not careful. That being said, there are plenty of better growers here who use it and can chime in. Good luck with your grow. First grow is a learning experience.

Appreciate it.

Is the 3 gallon bag too big for right now? Maybe start with 1 gallons?

Start with small pots if you are going the soil & photoperiods route, at least till you get the hang of it. It’s easier to over water your seedlings and kill them with big pots. You can always transplant to bigger pots as they grow in size.

Some of the fun of gardening is discovering your own style. I like coco and pridelands soil. I grow synganic and find they take watered in nutes very well with those mediums.

Day 8 I think

Transferred everything to coast of Maine stonnington mix. I put 2 of them in 1 gallon bags to see if the faster dry/wet water cycles helps growth. I have this yellow discoloration on the leaves starting from the center outwards. I backed off the lights 2 days ago with no improvement and supposedly this soil can feed plants to 3-4 weeks so I don’t think it’s any deficiency’s. Thoughts on this?

They look okay to me? Maybe the photos aren’t quite capturing the problem.
