First Time (growing legal that is)!

Just had to stop in and say the title made me smile… Thanks for that!! Much luck on your growing!!! It does feel weird to legally grow :laughing:

@Terpsnpurps Well, it DID, for a while anyway! Then they throw out this 15-plant limit (Don’t think it’s ‘passed’ legislation yet). I’m planning on a dyslexia-defense! …or that we smoke a doobie BEFORE they start counting! :rofl:

In the end they do NOT have the manpower to ever even check… it’s when someone else hollers at the rooftops it’s an issue lol… I don’t plan on listening to anything they say… sure I’ll nod… but I won’t listen :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I’m only supposed to grow 5… I plan on blowing that number out of the water hahaha

LOVE the king size mozzie net. Pure genius man! Thats like a new “outdoor tent”.

Bugs over here are fierce towards plants bro, so I have to even the odds. I’m always happy to have mantis visitors in the greenhouses. Big as they are, they always seem to be able to find their own way in.

I started out using US Army surplus mossie-head nets over my pots (they even came in camo!), then shifted to those baby-size mossie nets with a sewn in bottom (self-camo-painted! :joy: …Then discovered the ones made for baby strollers and started making variously plant-shaped armatures to support them…‘room size’ now, God, what’s next?

There’s a six-inch wide ‘bottom’ netting that’s meant to be tucked in under the mattress…just realized that when it’s time to set them free, I can just lift off the whole room cover in one move…no passing them through the doors! Cool! I may have to pick up a couple more!

Couple quick weekend shots…continuing to transplant the girls.

Discovered mites in the LS mix, likely from some old rice hull that I stupidly didn’t thoroughly check before using. :cry: Hitting everything hard w/diat. earth, sulfur and a couple bio-remedies and praying! Pretty pissed off about it…otherwise this has definitely been my best LS mix yet! Root growth has really impressed me. I’m sure the MychorTech treatment has helped, but the texture of this mix is outstanding!

Made a bunch of cuttings in the process of topping plants. To my surprise, the one which I took the least care of and just stuck in a plastic cup of perlite on the greenhouse floor and ignored is doing the best of them all! :rofl: Isn’t that always the way?

Well, made some progress on the first monsoon shelter, nothin’ too fancy, just semi-quick & easy!

Meanwhile, I stopped by a Thai friend’s place for a coffee & short discussion on predatory mites and/or the lack of availability of them over here! Got a chance to grab a quick look at a local grow of the Koh Tao sativa strain being grown out by my friend’s son.

And one interesting ‘mutant’ that popped up!

Mossie tent decided to collapse on itself in a hard downpour this afternoon, meaning the HST I had planned was done for me by the time I got back! Not quite what I had in mind but… that’s what happens when you don’t do your own job!

That’s it for the news from over here today, happy growing friends!

I would have been dismayed with that HST, I’m new so haven’t seen anything like that yet. Looks like she’ll be fine?

That king size mosquito net is one of many things I’m learning would be a good idea next season outdoors. Maybe I’ll make a structure kind of like your monsoon shelter, but all netting. Love seeing your jungle!

@FieldEffect Thanks for stopping by! Haa, haa, haa - ‘dismayed’ is putting it nicely! I didn’t post pics of the two others that also got knee-capped! I’ve strung a line that now supports the center of the net, so it can’t happen again (at least not the same way :rofl:). I was going to lop them off, but then thought I might as well let them go a few days and see if perhaps I like the way the deformity takes them! If all the upper branches reverse themselves by tomorrow afternoon I may just let them go ahead for a week or two and then make some clones. I put another of those king-sized nets up yesterday and this morning at dawn was ‘dismayed’ :rofl: to find one of the local stray dogs (couldn’t have been one of mine!) had managed to tear holes in all four sides! :roll_eyes: It’s okay, gave me the inspiration to get on with the monsoon shelter(s)!

The monsoon shelter was going to be plastic top and greenhouse netting lowers/ends, but when I pulled out my leftover netting I realized there was enough to do the whole thing and just put plastic on top of that. Less likelihood of critters sneaking through the cracks!

Hey @Tlander , your monsoon shelter looks legit!
May it shelter you Herb from the upcoming chaos! And I’m digging the Koh Tao. Very cool to see, thank you for the photos!:grin::v:

@Budderton Thanks! Yeah, the KT were interesting to see up close. There’s a Thai guy on KT who has been in the forefront of the ‘legalize cannabis’ promotion for years now and who is pretty well known. He spent time in Germany learning breeding techniques and travels widely around the country teaching all those who are interested. The plants shown are his breeding results. I haven’t spoken to him about what/where the parents came from, but so many people have told us both that we have to meet each other for so long that now it looks like it’s gonna happen soon! My friend’s son came out with a couple seedlings for me as I was getting ready to leave, so I’ll be getting a chance to watch them grow up.

P.S. That mutant with the fused leaves looks very reminiscent of a plant people call “DuckFoot” (and a few other names). I talked with one guy in Australia and another in Ontario who have both been breeding something very similar for 4-6 years now. Both said the plant in veg looks so unlike ganja that most people dont even take notice of it!

Yep, I’d say that leaf is very much Ducksfoot. A little insight into what the Thai guy put into the KT perhaps.
@Tlander , do you find any botrytis(bud rot) in the local genomes? Seems like they would have to be very resistant, considering the damp environment.

@Budderton I have yet to ‘meet’ him, but I believe that he’s quite into the Thai landraces and I don’t think he’s using a bunch of ‘outside’ genetics. I myself have not grown out the Thai genetics…until now it’s always been hidden jungle patches that only get a couple hours overhead Sun a day and I usually used seeds from friends growing in Humboldt, meaning LOADS of bud rot! :grimacing: Weather patterns (if they still exist as patterns anymore?) are really different around the country. “Most” of what people think of when they talk of “Thai weed” is that grown up in the NE or N of Thailand…and more so the last few decades, Laos. I’m way down in the South and here we get two separate ‘monsoons’, one from the East (coming up sometime between Oct and Xmas) and one from the West which carries right across the narrow isthmus of Thailand. I work with a lot of other types of plants and it’s always a challenge to work things out - Orchids from the NE bloom in the dry season (up there), but I find if you bring them down here the same month/photo period is the wet season and they won’t flower as profusely, if at all! Always something new to learn! :rofl:

It’s more than likely the Ducksfoot has some Thai in it. It was made in Australia so it’s not that much of a stretch.
Sounds like a real challenge to grown big, dense flower, where you are. Are you able to put fans in your hoop house?

@Budderton I suppose I ‘could’ as there’s electric down there for lights and an irrigation controller, but I doubt I will. Had big ones in the propagation greenhouses but they have all rusted out too fast! To be fair, we have automatic misting systems in there going on 4 times a day minimum so no wonder! If I didn’t appreciate the challenges so much (or if I had more brains!) I’d just grow wispy sativa’s from this part of the world and be fine with it! The last few years I’ve also tried growing ‘out of season’ and had some success, put a bunch of seeds in in January and harvested smallish plants in April/May. This run is also way out of whack! Starting seedlings under lights in Aug…moving them outdoors where lights come on for 15 minutes every hour during darkness to keep the ‘nighttime’ duration’s short in September and in October I’ll kill the nightlights and we’ll see what happens! I’m mainly getting things/soils set up for next year, but with the legal status changes I couldn’t resist popping somethings right away! :rofl:

Right on @Tlander . I use to do the opposite and start limiting daylight in July to ensure a harvest by the beginning of September. Now I just grow inside because it’s a mean world out there.:joy:
It’s a tough path you’ve chosen, best of luck! :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:

In honor of the reggae thread, I’m;

I’m really impressed by this MychorTech…been using it from seed pop through every transplanting and it seems to be cutting the time to get roots popping out the bottom of the new pot down to about 1/2 the time I’m used to! But it’s one of those times where there are so many variables it’s hard to say which is more important. AirPots? Mix texture? Mychors? I’m just happy with them all! Really want to just leave one of these gals in a 1 gallon airpot for another month and see what the roots look like then…just can’t bring myself to do it :rofl:

Couple more transplants in the monsoon house;

Spent a couple hours mite hunting, and happy to report it was really lousy hunting! I think it was probably the cast iron kitchen sink-to-the-head that really knocked them back! Threw EVERYTHING else at 'em too! Sulfur, Diatom. Earth, Beauveria bassiana, soap, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, prayers, curses to the tenth generation, you name it! Can’t claim to be completely rid of them, but back to a point of being able to control 'em better at least.

Okay, sunset storm blowing in right on time to test out the monsoon house, so must be time for a fattie! Have a great day!
