First timer,knowledge needed!

First off, hello everyone and thank you joe for all the love that is shared in all of OG! Alot of great people here!

A little intro,i am new to og,maybe two months ish.in a legal state and ready to try my hand at growing! I spend alot of time researching and contemplating techniques and styles that hope i can integrate into my own unique form that works for me and my space. Again, amazing group of people here on OG! Tons upon tons of great info and laughter!

So my issue is this, a friend of a friend gifted me several clones from their fall run and i am really interested in dropping seeds of them instead of having too many mothers in my small area. All are females so i have been researching sts formulas and gathered the necessary materials to give it a go.also i have acquired a separate smaller tent to use for reversal. I have selected the one i want to reverse and pollinate the rest bc i dont have time or space to do each individually and have true s1’s of each(which is what i really wanted). Instead i will have s1 crosses if i understand correctly how breeding works. Lol
My main questions are when should i pollinate? How long does a reversed plant need to shed pollen? And how could i store it? Or use it right away? Do i flip my ladies at the same time i reverse the one for pollen or ahead of time? How do i dry seeds once they are mature? Should i even try this or go for one at a time? Or maybe go a different route all together? All in good fun tho!Lol
Any thoughts ,comments, tips and tricks is very much appreciated!

This is mainly to have some fun, gather info and hopefully i can maybe document and share my stumbling journey into the unknown. Still in the brainstorming stage but really want to get the ball rolling and have space for some new stuff coming early this year! I will try to figure out how to upload pics and learn to edit along the way.
Much love and prosperity to all of OG!

Edit:

In no particular order they are krazy runtz, gary Poppin, grease monkey, uncicorn poop, lem. Cher. Gel. and drippin aint easy. The far left in the fabric pot dosen’t count lol that is a mephisto freebie i call baked yeti. For my stash while i play with seeding.

Leaning towards reversing the UP and cross it with everything else and create a mystery grab bag so to speak. But honestly i wanted to self each one but im afraid it will take a very long time and or cross contaminate in my small space if any other ladies are in flower. Or should i just run them out and forget about them? Looking more forward to the genetics coming soon than these but i cant just let them go.might as well seed them!Again, any suggestions i would appreciate.

Too many questions at once for me to answer. But I can tell you that the reversed plant a.k.a. pollen donor needs to be sent into flower 2-3 weeks earlier than the receiving females. Thats how long it takes for a plant to reverse if everything goes right. More on the 3 weeks side I guess. You need to have the pollen ready when the females are in their ideal phaee for getting pollinated. Which is probably in the 2-4 week stage of flowering. Any later and the seeds may not get ripe before the plant dies. You can store the pollen for a few days dry and cool or get it in the fridge or freezer but only totally dried and sealed to wait for the right time. Pollinate the girls when they show many pistils but dont wait too long or you’ll get immature seeds.
Everything here is strain-dependent and related to the expected flowrring time. Seeds need around 5 to 6 weeks to ripen. So if you polllinate a 10 week plant at week 3 you should be good.

The clones you know are female
It would be quite quick

If you pop seeds 7 days to crack 2 weeks as seedlings then 4 weeks to sex if your using regular seeds

7 weeks till you know what you got

Or fem seeds still 6 weeks to get them as big as your plants are now

If you want take cuts and reverse them

Just my .02 cents

I would do a couple bud runs before getting into seedmaking

There will be kinks. Best get them sorted before getting too complicated.

Couldn’t agree more.

I know there were way to many questions and i have a million more! But thank you for that info it really helps me decipher my next step! Much appreciated!

So you mean like take some clones and solo cup them for taste and quality before attempting seeds? That is a great way to narrow down my endeavor! Very much appreciate the knowledge!

I am exactly trying o keep it simple and fun! Thank you for your inputs!

Regarding timing i would actually flower the pollen donor 5-6 weeks earlier than the girls. You can always store pollen but you can’t pause the flowering girls.

I more meant run some full size plants to term - grow some pot. Skipping that step would almost be like teaching an art class before you ever completed a single paitning.

Thank you! Im picking up what you are putting down! Much appreciated! I have run a few single small plants to term, testing my space. I probably ahould run a full tent or two and get my green legs lol

Take it one step at a time. Prioritize your questions based the step in your plan. Also a lot of the answers you seek can be found in the archives

I usually pollinate a couple times, day ~21 and ~28, to get ALL the beans by ~10 weeks from flip.

Usually 4-5 weeks into flip. They tend to take a bit longer than a true male does and don’t usually open up and drop pollen like a true male does either. If you can, i’d try and reverse a few clones of the same plant. Not all plants, even the same clones, reverse the same way. Some reverse really easily/quickly, and some need a lot more effort. Regardless, reversal’s usually require you to pull off the fat male flowers and open them up over a tray/mirror/etc with tweezers or something. Maybe a pollen sifter would work. It’s a pain. Real males are easy though, just bend them over a tray and shake :joy: ymmv.

Spread the pollen out so it’s not in a pile and then dry it out for a few days in a low humidity environment. Lower the better. Silica beads in a sealed container is good if your house has above 50% humidity. After a few days to a week or so, you can store and save it for a couple years. I like to split up the pollen into 0.2ml vials. Just enough to do a plant or few. Normally once fully dried you’d stick the vials into the fridge or frost-free freezer, and only take out what you need. If you take it out you need to use it. Hence the smaller containers to keep it in.

If you can wait awhile i’d collect the pollen first, but otherwise i’d flip the females 2-3 weeks after you flip the reversal plant(s).

Seeds usually need 6-8 weeks to mature once the plant is pollinated. Once mature, I like to hang my plants to dry. So I do that, but instead of taking down and trimming up to jar after 10-14 days, I’ll continue to let them hang until crispy dry. Then shuck the beans. Remove all the plant matter. Then pretty much same deal as the pollen. Spread the beans out into a single layer if you can and let them continue to dry out. If you have to do multiple layers, stir them once or twice a day to let them air out. I like 3-4 weeks of drying time in low humidity to harden off the seeds. A good portion of lines will be ready to go from here but to be sure, you can put them in the fridge or freezer for another 3 weeks or so. Should be perfect from germination rates from there.

Holy Ambition Batman!

Really cool to see someone decide to dive in this hard this quick. This will surely be a baptism of fire as they say.

Good luck, you’re in good hands here.

Don’t over think it too much, less attention the better - probably one of the toughest lessons to learn at the start.

Thank you very very much!! I plan to take it easy and go with the flo! I feel like if i fail or suc-seed  it will be a great lesson for me and fun for you all to watch!

Sucseed. I love it. You get to do what you want. You will learn lots during the process.

Flower run just seems logical imo. Learn how to finish plants. Repeat till comfy. Once comfy expand your practices. So many things involved in getting a plant to finish and keep us outta the expensaries. Cut clones? Mothered a keeper? Mothering and cloning is a big deal! Its how u keep keepers.

May the Cannabis Goddess guide you.

Thank you very much for your inputs! Only hands on experience will grant me the knowledge to see the keeper qualities i should be looking for before moving into the seeder stages. Thank you again for your 2 cents!
