FirstCav's first pollination attempt

I’m sure well all get something. I tried to pick more stable strains so hopefully that makes it easier. Bubblegum should come out good I bet for sure for both of us

I’ve wanted a real Bubblegum clone for a couple years and just got lucky that someone wanted to trade for my Motorbreath 15 clone. They threw in the Grape Punch as an extra which I’m excited to run as well.

My wife loves fruity tasting strains so I’ve grown some grape strains in auto flower for her before. I love hashy, kushy, fuel strains but we meet in the middle so it all works out.

It has been 2 weeks since I fed the girls so today was top dressing with Dr Earth 4-6-3 formula at 2 tbls per gallon of soil. Next weekend is when I’ll try my first pollen dusting and then again 7 days later to reapply. Fair bit of growth since flip but no unreasonable stretching which I had hoped for given these genetics. Still need to clean up the lowers but I’m waiting to decide which branches are getting pollen so I’m letting it go until next weekend. Hope everyone had a great weekend and your plants are happy and healthy.

I decided to only use the Blue Kush pollen this run as it’s my first attempt at selective pollination and if I used two different pollens I wouldn’t be able to be 100% sure they didn’t cross contaminate each other. If I’m growing or gifting these I want to be sure they are 100% what I think they are. The Blue Sunshine pollen will hit my Grape Punch and Bubblegum clones next round. Sunday is D-Day for dusting so I’ll be cleaning up some lowers and picking which the ones that I want to pollinate. Here’s a couple pics from this week. Hope everybody has a great weekend.

Just trying to get me a front row seat for the pollination!

So earlier today I dusted my Northern Lights #2, smaller Purest Indica and Pre 98 Bubba Kush plants with Blue Kush pollen from Doug Dawson. Blue Kush is BOG’s Blue Moon Rocks crossed to his Sour Bubble and from what I’ve read it sounds like some tasty pain meds. I’m especially interested in the Northern Lights and Bubba crosses as both of those strains are some of my favorite of all time
If anyone has advice for a good time to spray them down to sterilize the remaining pollen once fertilization should be finished please let me know. It’s my very first time trying this and I couldn’t isolate branches like I had planned due to my shoulder popping out of socket yesterday. I’m sure I used way too much and spread it everywhere but as long as I get seeds I’ll call this round a huge success. Hope y’all had a great weekend.

It’s going to be great :tada:
Congratulations on your first pollination!
Sorry about your shoulder

Thanks so much. I’m used to the shoulder but it was bad timing. I’ve been putting off another rotator cuff surgery because the last one was a bear for rehab and my garden isn’t ready for me to take a vacation. I had hoped to drape a bag over the plant and just be very neat about it but more seeds won’t be a problem I don’t think.

Definitely not a problem having more seeds!:joy:

Greetings @FirstCavApache64,

I have had success waiting at least two hours before “deactivating” the residual pollen with a serious spraydown with clean water. Be sure to spray the pot & soil as well as the plant.

If your pics are any hint, you Definitely used plenty of dust to get the job done. lol

Since you weren’t able to isolate the branches you probably pollinated the entire plant.

Sorry to hear about your shoulder, that hurts like hell. Don’t bother asking how I know.

Cheers,
-Grouchy

All looks very well and I am looking forward to your next update. Take care of that shoulder. Try and get some rest!

Hell yeah!! Next time try using a Qtip for “selective” pollination. It’s more precise and if you fuck it up, there isn’t as much pollen getting everywhere. You literally barely touch the pollen with a qtip and touch the hairs. I’ve done it a couple times and it’s worked great to pollinate a single bud.

Pre98 Bubba x Blue Kush sounds like a winner to me!

Thanks for the help guys. It’s funny, I cut the rounded ends off 2 Q-tips planning on trying them but I dropped both on the floor while getting everything ready and was worried about dirt, germs, and other stuff all over the buds. I was pretty happy with the paint brush as long as I didn’t really load it up with pollen. The first time I tried to put a good bit on the brush it went flying all over as soon as I tapped the brush. I’ll try the Q-tips next time for sure. I think it’s safe to say this was more of an intentional pollination and not as selective as I had hoped. Using just the one pollen type was definitely the right call until I figure out a system to make my pollinating more controlled.

I tried a qtip on my first time but not a good result, maybe me or the pollen but very few seeds seem to have took
