Congrats on your first pollination brother
I couldn’t get the qtips to work well for me either. A slightly smaller brush with finer bristles pulled just enough dust for one bud, and one tap set it loose. I think I put a pic in my Frankie thread.
Intentional Pollination == MORE SEEDS! Yay!
More seeds is a good thing!
Yeah the pollen just stuck to the qtip I think I lost more than made it on the buds. I think next time I’ll try a brush like @FirstCavApache64 but maybe a smaller one like you would use for painting models
If I use a brush next time it will be much smaller like one you’re talking about. Walmart had a sale on various brushes years ago and we got these for my daughter to paint with. The pistils looked rough this afternoon with a few having really burnt looking tips on them so hopefully in the next few days I’ll see more signs that it took.
Definitely. It was pretty clear within days which ones took. If I can get 20 though I’d be happy this run lol. Fingers crossed for ya.
Got my finger crossed for you, can’t wait to see the outcome.
The thing I liked about the Qtip was you just lightly touch it to the pollen and then I give it a little gentle tap over the buds and a little cloud will kind of drop down on the site. Since it takes 1 grain of pollen to produce a seed and a grain of pollen is smaller then the human eye can see it’s fair to say you went overboard, lol. But that’s totally cool bud, once you play around a bit you will get a feel for what works best for you and how you want to do it. They look like nice healthy pistils so I am going to just say you have a success there bud. Congrats.
Did you cover them in bags or anything after pollination? Apologies if you said already
If not, you may find the pollen spreads to other branches
No I was worried that trying to do that in the shape I’m in right now would damage buds and or break branches. I’m sure there are going to be seeds everywhere but I grew up de seeding pretty much every bag I bought with a Frisbee or album cover so it’s more that I’ve become spoiled since I started growing sinsimelia. I left the pollen on there today and I’ll spray them down with a mister tomorrow and the next day to try and kill any leftover pollen so I’m not having seeds get made too late to mature.
Yeah. It was definitely a case of overkill lol. I didn’t store it in perfect conditions so I was worried I might have reduced the viability while waiting for these plants to be ready. You used a Q tip and I went the leaf blower and dump route😁
That’s ok brother, been there, lol. In the end it will get you where you want to go which is really all that matters. You should see some pistils browning in a day or two.
That’s what we do best!
It looks like my overkill with pollen worked better than I had hoped. Tons of newly browned and shrivelling pistils give me the hope of future seeds. There was a lot of overspray, if that’s the right term so I’m glad I just used the Blue Kush pollen. It got on places I had never expected lol. Thanks so much Doug for your generosity with all the pollen.
That is a beautiful sight!
I’m living vicariously through your experience, as i’ve never made seeds. But will sometime soon.
Judging by the amount of random brown hairs scattered all over the top of the Purest Indica plant I’m betting I picked it up and moved it before I changed clothes and took a shower. There’s pollinated pistils all over the top of that one and I only intentionally hit the secondary and lower shoots. Looks like I’ll have plenty of seeds cooking soon. Hope it goes well for you when you do it. I’ve already named the Northern Lights #2 x Blue Kush, I’m calling it Blue Lights. Like the old Kmart specials back when they were still around.
I’ve always wanted to see those. We had an unusual magnetic storm this past year and they were visible this far South but it was too cloudy for me to see. My wife and I want to do an Alaskan cruise one day so hopefully I’ll get my chance then.
That is definitely pollinated well bud. Don’t worry about putting on too much. What didn’t create a seeds just got washed away in the end, no big deal. The only real issues are it’s harder to control and wasted a bit of pollen which is a really small matter. I am guessing you still have plenty to play with. Good job man, definitely a success.
I got to experience the Northern Lights coming from Edmonton and driving to Calgary tripping balls on acid when I was 16. I will never forget how amazing it was.
Thanks Doug, it should go without saying if any of these crosses sound good to you just let me know and once I get them ripe, dried and sorted there will be some on the way to you. I’m gonna say you’ll be buried in Blue Kush crosses this year.
