Flip for male detection?

Is it possible to flip a plant to 12/12, find out the sex,and as soon as you do flip it back to 18/6?

I can’t really tell if I am gonna get a male to breed with on this stage of my breeding project, and I am considering flipping to 12/12 just long enough to see if i have a male, then as quickly as i can flip it back to 18/6. I know you can reveg, but im not sure if this will work, because IF i do get a male, I want to keep it as a father to clone, and im not sure if the early flip to check will make it impossible to keep it as a father plant?

Also do Photoperiod plants ALWAYS show there sex before flipping to flower or is the only way to be sure lab testing or flipping?

You can purchase a test from farmer freeman get sex figured out as soon as plant has a couple leaves

I wanted these to get a bit bigger than the first round, because this is not only stage to of my breeding project, but its also a personal seed increase on the strain I am Hoping to find a male to keep as a father and a mother to keep as well, at this point, which, admittedly, is still early, I honestly think they are all gonna be females.

Put 3 days on 12/12 and back to 18/6.
I did it with plants that was 26 days old and they show preflowers after few days

you can always take snips for clones, then into 12/12 straight away for rooting…

I may have to if they dont show sexual maturity.

Yes. I do it this way … move the plants I want to sex from my veg ti flower space and depending on strain they will show sex some earlier than others.
I move the plants I want to keep back into my veg space until they are ready for the final flip.

Do you ever run into issues with the plant refusing to reveg? How long do you leave them in the flower tent before moving them back to the veg tent?

I have never had a problem getting them to reveg.
As far as how long to leave them in flower. It varies according to strain, some strains will show faster and only need 3 days where others do better leaving them for 5 days. Either way you only get preflowers and should reveg just fine. They will stay in the preflower state but not advance. I now leave all mine in for 5 days and they all reveg just fine, but as soon as you see sex you can put them back in to veg.

Clone it before you flip. Move one or the other to 12/12. Determine sex. Or, maybe buy a sex identification kit from someone like Farmer Freeman.

Here’s a good read for ya bud.

Take a cut and slap it in a cup with water and flip it 12/12 and in 7-14 days you will see what sex it is. Leave your plants in veg until you know what they distinguish as.

You can apply the strategy described. But you will be tributary of the longest declaration, stable works are rare today. Sound ok in reading the words, but it can be tricky to handle : you need a buffer space set on 24/0. And with a density of light that is high + around 6400 kelvin.

There is a more practical way : just not giving any veg to the seeds. Not all strain handle it well, but for a fast rotation to make seeds it’s just the fastest and easiest way. You can reveg too, eventually, but you will not be able to directly select the best floral to reduce at two specimens to keep (then launch others seeds/clones aside).

For the males, even in 24/0, some are just continuing to flower + to veg while they are revegging. Think your buffer space with this in mind. With them, just almost cut PK et rise N at the limits of the burns, it’s helping.

Yes, but it take a good month of veg in general (in optimal/healthy conditions).

Sometimes plants won’t reveg or take longer in my experience. I do 24/7 for reveg then change to 18/6 once i see signs of it.

It’s not perfect, sometimes you get the wrong result and it’s the other sex. I personally don’t know of anyone that that pays for tests.

These tests are much more reliable now buddy, but they are still unable to detect pure herms. For me it’s the only one dope use of this tech, but i understand those that want the “feminized comfort” without the compromise on the grade of the weed ^^

Yeah, they came a longs way.
