Flower Rosin

Best Yields for Flower Rosin have been using the chottle technique (removing top and bottom of rosin bag) then pack, load, and press like it was bottle tech. I honestly have had the most consistent results using a smaller micron (37u or 25u) rosin bag with sometimes greater yields of better looking rosin compared to the same size 120u rosin bag.

Tropicana Cherry Flower

Tropicana Cherry 4.5g Flower Pressed @185 F returned 0.95g (~21%)

Think I pressed a little too long trying to squeeze out all those cherry terps, so it’s a little darker and less badder like than I had hoped. I can smell the cherry terps 5 feet away so I am happy with it.

Welcome to OG @FreshFrozen ! Got some great looking rosin there! I have never pressed any myself, but it sure looks like the good stuff I’ve bought. Hope we see you around more :love_you_gesture:

Welcome to OG and thanks for sharing!

I haven’t tried pressing flower with both ends of the bag open. I’ll give it a try!

I actually have some of these rosin bag rolls which would work perfect for this technique.

It’s like a long tube that you cut to length, so it’s already open on both ends. I usually fold both ends over to close it up. I have a 2” metal cylinder mold I pack the bud in, compress it down and then cut a length of tube to fit it in.

Very nice looking nug.

IME the press club rosin bag/material is one of the strongest and their zero blowout guarantee holds up.

I recently tried their 2" round rosin bags with the puck-n-tuck suggested method, but grabbed the 120u and wish I had decided on a much lower micron instead.

My next purchase will be this suggested product as it makes the most economical sense, thanks for the heads up!

Appreciate the love from everyone.

@FreshFrozen Looks killer !!! My experience color has everything to do with plants being taken full term or taken early for lighter color Rosen. I myself prefer the darker colored full-term Rosen. I like that cured to batter consistency myself. Cheers !!!

5g Super Boof Flower Squeze

Super Boof Flower Being Squeezed

Chottle Tech Pre Press Start

First Squeeze at 165 going to 185

First Squeeze Yield

Second Squeeze Yield

The Second press was several minutes longer than the first press and got as warm at 205 F.

Final Result
0.38g 1st Run
0.28g 2nd Run

0.66g Total Flower Rosin from 5g Material. (13.2%)

I’ve definitely had better yields with this strain using the identical method. The main variable would be the size of nugs not being uniform and instead just compressed on to itself since both ends of the bag are open. Little to no specs of plant material contamination (almost ruined at the beginning).

Both presses have the grapefruit citrusy funk terps and the great buzz I’ve come to love with my limited and somewhat new exposure to this cultivar.

Let me know if you would like to see more content as I practice learning solventless extracts with different cultivars, whether pressing flower directly for rosin or showing hobby level flower to bubble hash to hash rosin process.

Thank you for any and all feedback as well as all the love.

@FreshFrozen Hey try this when pressing finished cured flower. I prep them before pressing.l by adding bovita moisture packs at 62 % up to 65% for dryer stuff for several days to gain moisture before pressing. I also prefer 90 micron bottle tech bags for pressing cured finished flower. I like the bottle tech bags but you need to prep the bags before you fill them. Here is a quick guide for the bags. Give this a try it will increase your returns when pressing flower and help keep plant matter out of your Rosen… Cheers !!!

Edit- Quality note nothing over 207 degrees max and nothing longer than 3 1/2 min max. Less of either will increase quality and decrease yield. Anything over that will degrade quality.

I keep all my flower in the grove bags but also have some boveda packs lying around.

Are you suggesting using those after the prepress to make sure they’re still at the correct RH or is my current flower storage method suffice?

Thanks for the help and illustrated pics!

Ive noticed a lot of strains will come out incredibly light if you press once they are dry enough.

I forget what strain, either ethos- purple thai auto or some unknown bag seed i grew

Yeah, I thought you might like those rolls!
They seem made for the method you described.

I agree. the press club is great! And it’s a small company too. The owner is super nice. I really like supporting them. Plus they have my favorite rosin bags so it’s an easy choice.

The only product I ever had from them that I didn’t like was a roll of 120 or 160 micron bag material. It was just too brittle. I don’t even remember why I ordered it… lol. Like you said the lower micron work better anyway.

I contacted the press club about how the bags were breaking and they sent me out a new roll of a lower micron bag for free.

Am i the only one going bagless at all times?

Rosin looks really yummy @FreshFrozen !

Your user name dictates you need to converse with @JoeCrowe

Live extracts is where it’s at! Fresh as a daisy out of the freezer. The bag filters out any plant material. 25 micrometer in particular.

Wish I had consistent access to FF material, but unfortunately I don’t. I am trying to get better at washing and pressing before I honestly should be touching fresh material so it’s not wasted.

I am really enjoying your epic bubble thread. I am still a few years back in posts but get through a few pages everyday.

It’s definitely all about the genetics. What I do is run my grow as the hash plant thunder dome. I toss out the ones that aren’t good producers and keep ones that are! IT has to be at least 2% yield, but these days I’m working towards 3% yield on the hash plants I grow. hah hah you’ll see me talking about that part non stop.

Interesting, the HP Thunder Dome heh. Do you refer to any of the ones that don’t make the cut, “beyond thunderdome”? Corny joke.

3% is usually the industry standard on the commercial level for viability/profitability correct?

In my little experience, genetics yield night and day. I grabbed the GG#4 knowing that it is supposed to dump and it was fun to practice. Once dialed in temp, 20%+ return every squeeze. 3.05g Flower Rosin from 14g Flower was the total.

What flavors currently stay going in HP Thunderdome?

Oh yah the list of failures is growing by the day. I keep my original plant that I obtained from AMS called “big bud” and I think if you go there it will be out of stock. It’s been out of stock since I started slaying in the competition. I’d always give a shout out to them. The next one that rolled in was a gojiOG plant. When I am saying 3%, I really mean 3% of the weight of the fresh buds is 90 micrometer and larger trichome caps. To me, the lower grades are total garbage. You always need the piatella fraction from the extract. Failures include things like:
king tut, sugar black rose, TK, slurricane, blue cheese, harlequin, hybrids GMOxDBHP, OGKxGMO, tirah valley, gojiOG-alpha, etc. I’m getting more efficient at picking the winners and weeding out the losers before the plant enters bloom. Baseline method.
