Sleep deprivation is nothing to mess around with. Apnea is very hard on your heart also. This is my first machine. It was such a life changer for me. I was also in seriously bad shape before. I like my machine and nasal pillows. I hadn’t slept for so long, it was like a miracle.

Got mine a few years ago and it definitely helped. Unfortunately it was just a percentage of the overall shit going on so it wasn’t a miraculous overnight change but it definitely made a noticeable difference.

I was reading a peer reviewed study a while ago that showed sleep apnea is caused by a vitamin or mineral deficiency I can’t remember which.

Obstructive sleep apnea (which I believe is much more common) is caused by things settling in the night and blocking the airway to a degree. Central sleep apnea is the brain forgetting to send the signal to breath (which is terrifying). I’m guessing if it can be traced to a deficiency it would be the central version and now even though I have the obstructive kind I want to know what supplement I should be taking to make sure my brain isn’t forgetting to send ANY signals!

It’s not really the brain but the autonomic nervous system. You have co2 monitors on your spine that measure how much oxygen and co2 is in the blood, when there is more co2 than oxygen the nervous system sends a signal to breath. I just did a quick search and its Vit B1 which your liver also uses up to process carbohydrates as well.

When I am doing the Wimm Hoff breathing technique, after 3 rounds of it, my blood is over saturated with oxygen and I might not breath between 2 or 3 minutes again until the oxygen decreases.

Now where the hell did I put the last box? I know it’s around here somewhere…

When I am doing the breathing technique I look like that, forcing a breath hold as long as possible to trigger the autonomic nervouse system to go into fight or flight mode. After I finish 3 rounds I meditate and because my blood becomes so alkaline from the oxygen the breathing mechanism stops lol.

There is another condition caused by a traumatic birth, the baby goes into shock and that can inhibit the breaking of reflex actions, which breathing is.

People who suffer from neurophysiological developmental delay with inhibited reflex actions can have a lot of problems with their senses and have to think about breathing.

You can recognise these people because they will stop breathing when they have to concentrate hard on something and then do a big gasp.

Sorry for hijacking your thread Foreigner.

Much better breathing technique than the David Hasselhoff one. :ok_hand:

Obstructive apnea is the collapse of the airway during sleep caused by the inherent shape of those tissues when no longer supported by the musculature, which occurs when you fall asleep. Excessive weight can exacerbate this but isn’t required. This is functionally different than what you describe though I have heard of this.

Well this has me thinking. A few years back I made a video of me recording a song on guitar and when I listened back to it I realized that during the more difficult parts I was doing this a bit. When I realized it I made a joke about it and the forum I had posted it on had a few people saying they do it too or that someone they know does it (all while playing guitar in this case). The timing of this is funny because I actually made a few recordings recently and was watching them last night with an ear out for any gasping but I didn’t hear any. After that realization I was doing it years ago I had made a conscious effort to address it and playing those parts became easier because I was overall more relaxed. I guess it stuck. So I had a traumatic birth? :hushed:

I have the Whim Hoff vids on a hard drive somewhere and really should give it another go. I did start doing “Scottish Showers” partially because of him though.

FUCK. This is 100% me and I think the only reason I have such a grasp on my breath control was due to the 5 years of competitive swimming, S.C.U.B.A, and snorkelling!

Forced drowning makes you learn to breath propper-like.

Either that or your mother was ill during pregnancy or you were ill in the first year. Typically things like umbilical cord around the throat or blue baby as its called, bad jaundice, long delivery, premature birth, really anything that is stressful enough for a baby to go into shock in the first year from birth. Roughly 25% of the population suffer from it to some degree, it can be corrected by doing particularly exercises or movements in a therapy, that you would normally do as a baby to break those reflex actions that you no longer need.

One of my best German memories was blasting along the Autobahn in a Rented Volvo doing 210 km/hr and being passed by all these Porches and Mercedes… damn civilized rest stops, big trucks in dedicated lanes. I’ve got to use the word again: civilized
